As the New Year approaches, voters and media groups have been keeping their eyes peeled to help determine which candidates would best fulfil the position as the next president of the United States. Have you met the candidates? On Monday, November 16th, 2015 we discovered the faces of our nation’s next leader. Let’s meet our nation’s next potential leaders…
In the Democratic party, we have candidates Louise Holton and Jane Thompson running for office. It is no surprise that we have Jane Thompson running in this presidential race. She is an old-faithful to the office, being the wife of our previous president with ample experience in the highest levels of government.
Disillusioned with the Democratic party, we also have Louise Holton (Dem.) also running for office, gaining more supporters through a grassroots campaign, using the slogan “Catch the Fire”. In a short speech announcing her participation in the presidential race, Holton mentions a “wage gap between the upper class and the middle class” in hopes to raise the minimum wage of workers.
Of the Green Party, we have representative Mark Chen running for office. Beginning his speech, we hear Chen speak of the death of his family and how a new family immediately adopted him, “the environment” he says. Chen is a middle school teacher who has been teaching for years and was driven to run for presidency through the inspiration of his students. In a press interview, Chen states that he is “disappointed in the Democratic party” and plans to foster major changes to benefit the environment.
We had the opportunity to talk to the Republican candidate James Tarskyn briefly about his background and take on immigration and gun control. Tarskyn is a seasoned and successful businessman and has a plan to get our country out of our multi-trillion dollar national debt. Tarskyn has reportedly collected over $3.5 billion in revenue in the past year alone, and states that he doesn’t need any sort of financial help from special interest groups.
When we asked Tarskyn about what he wants to change in this country he responded by saying, “We should be returning to traditional family values with traditional marriages in a traditional family home.” Tarskyn identifies as a Christian, so there was no surprise when he expressed his clear opinions against abortion and Planned Parenthood.
Immigration was an issue that Tarskyn had a lot to say about. He stated that, “11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. are taking our jobs and healthcare. They cost us over $3 trillion a year.” Tarskyn plans on building a wall on the Mexican border with all of it being funded by Mexico. His immigration reform plan seems genius in that no president has ever devised a plan as simple and easy as this. Pushing the illegal immigrants south of the border would save us $3 trillion, which would help us chip away at the national debt.
Tarskyn emphasizes the second amendment, expressing the fact that “liberal governments are reaching into every aspect of our lives” and that “taking our guns away will create a more obedient society, which will lead to us not standing up to our oppression.” Tarskyn’s opinion on guns are very similar to his Republican counterpart John Storm.
We met with John Storm and got to learn a lot about his political background and views on various social issues. Storm was a former lawyer, attorney general, and Governor of Texas. His campaign’s main focus is to “improve the lives of everyday people” Storm is a prime example of the “American Dream”. He didn’t come from a lot of money and through hard work was able to pursue a career in law and politics, eventually becoming a potential presidential nominee for the Republican party.
Storm’s opinion on immigration reform is very different from Tarkyn’s. Instead of building a wall and pushing illegals out completely, Storm thinks that deporting everyone will be impossible and people should have the opportunity to come to this country because this is the “country of opportunity”.
Storm expresses that the problem with gun violence does not lie in the gun itself, but rather in the lack of focus in mental illness centers. “Second Amendment rights are being threatened. It is unconstitutional for our guns to be taken away”, says Storm. In his campaign, Storm plans to represent the people of America, bringing back the people’s rights to protect themselves.
Storm is not only pushing for immigration and gun control reform, but is also very determined to change “ObamaCare” because “Obama has created an awful healthcare system”. Storm refers to Obama as a socialist because of he has mandated health care nationally. ObamaCare’s intent is to expand health care to everyone, but Storm states that healthcare should be fair and balanced, instead of being forced upon somebody.
