Gideon talking about living in the Muggle world made Moiraâs heart pound, and her eyes went to the table while she smiled. âIâm sure youâll do absolutely fine. If you ever make a mistake that seems strange, you can just be your charming self and the muggles will forget all about it.â After he kissed her she looked at him again, and put her head on his shoulder while still holding his hand. âI hope so too. Where would you like to go first?âÂ
Gideon grinned and shrugged âIâm not too sure? I would love to see all kinds of places but Iâm not sure where Iâd like to go first.. Do you have any idea of where you would like to go first?â He looked at her âI mean, I would love to visit other countries, but there are so many to choose from arenât there?â He grinned and shrugged. âI want to see as much as possible and as much as we can afford without going bankrupt.â
âCouldâve fooled me on some days.â James laughed. âThat sounds great, we just have to make sure that we do it before dinner which is in half an hour.âÂ
Gideon laughed âOi...â He nudged him âSure of course we will do it then.. I have the spells, we just need to alter it a little so it will work on all houses at once.â
âWho did you piss off this time?â James said standing next to him.
âI was in Herbology and I was being a perfect student until one of the Slytherins decided to throw something in my plant and the plant freaked out and I got the blame from Madame Sprout.. Seriously.. she wouldnât even listen to me.. and Iâm in her house!â
Bringing Up Memories || Gideon & Marlene
Marlene leaned into Gideon more, letting him support her weight as she looked down at the book. Thousands of memories flooded at the sight of the pictures, some she hadnât thought of in years. Lightly, she brushed her fingers over the one that Gideon had stopped at. The young girl had one arm hooked through Gideonâs, and one through Jamesâ. Theyâd been her two best mates since they were all in diapers.Â
Marlene squeezed Gideonâs hand. âSeven years,â she repeatedly faintly. It couldnât possibly have gone by that fast. âWeâll be leaving soon,â she sighed, resting her head on his shoulder and closing her eyes. The finality of their tenure at Hogwarts had suddenly struck her, and she was afraid. War was being raged outside the safety of the school, and Marlene wasnât ready to face it. She took a deep breath and held it before it finally shuddered out of her. âWhat will we do?â she asked quietly, desperately.
Gideon smiled and kissed the top of her head like he had done a million times before. He grinned âDo you remember the adventures weâd been going on, with James? Itâs a shame he is with Sirius and Remus and Peter a lot, I miss having him around more often. We used to be good the three of us. And Fabian sometimes too. I know we drove Molly nuts.â
He nodded âWe will be leaving soon, itâs flown by seriously.. Itâs mental..â He sighed and flipped to their first day of Hogwarts, they were at Kingâs Cross and sported the biggest grins known to man on their faces. âWe were so excited to get to school werenât we? I remember the day we got our wands and books.. It was still one of my favourite days.â He then sighed when she asked what theyâd do. âI donât know.. I honestly donât know. I want to join up with the Order, to help them, help fight whatever evil is out there... But I donât want to leave Moira behind and I know she wants to go to the Muggle world, so Iâm not sure.. Perhaps I can do both.. I do know Iâm not going to stay back and do nothing.â
âYouâre a quick learner. You keep surprising me with new words youâve learned, so I have to say Iâm impressed.â She smiled at him while thinking back to when she had been introduced to the magic world, and all the new things sheâd had to learn. It hadnât been easy. âI know,â she replied while nodding. âWeâll make it through. As you said, itâll take time, but we have each other. Thatâll make the time go faster. Iâm already looking forward to it.âÂ
He grinned âThank you. I try my best. Donât want to disappoint you while Iâm here and if we want to live in the Muggle world, well, I kinda have to know those things.. Instead of coming across as a moron, I can come across as a not so moron.â He chuckled and kissed her âI know I am looking forward to it as well, I hope we get to go really soon, that we wonât be held back..â
Bringing Up Memories || Gideon & Marlene
Marlene nodded and squeezed Gideon for a moment before letting him go. âYouâre welcome,â she replied quietly, blinking back the sudden burning in her eyes. She kept one arm around his waist as they turned to look at the album. Her fingers moved soothingly across his back, almost without her realizing it. Comforting her friends came naturally to Marlene.
She smiled as Gideon put into words a memory she hadnât thought of in many years. âYouâre still a show off now,â she said softly. She smiled slightly to show she was joking. âYes, I do remember,â she added wistfully. âIt took quite awhile for you to convince me. In the end, I think I finally climbed on after your mum told me to stop teasing you.â She smiled again and sniffed as the stinging came back with a vengeance. Marlene reached out and flipped the page with a finger. She nearly choked on her laughter when she saw an eleven-year-old Marlene and Gideon holding their Hogwarts acceptance letters. They had hidden Fabianâs letter, and he was standing apart from his brother and his friend with his arms crossed and his brows furrowed. âOh we were horrible to poor Fabian,â she commented. âHow long did it take him to find his letter, anyway?â
Gideon smiled and held her hand as they went through the picture album and nodded. âWe were incredibly horrible to him, but heâs payed me back for that, itâs not like weâve never suffered from his pranks?â He smiled and wiped his eyes. âBut I do remember that, he looked so scared that he wasnât going to be able to go, but then Molly found his letter and I got hit up the head and Fabian was able to hit me to.â He pouts.
He went through the next page and smiled, âWhat about this one? It was our first trainride to Hogwarts. Can you believe that was already seven years ago? Itâs ridiculous... It canât have been that long, seven years...â He muttered.
âYes, thatâs right, airplanes.â She smiled at him and squeezed his hand. âYouâre learning. Weâll have to save up some money though. But if weâre both going to be working after we leave school then weâll make it.â Moira could feel her heart aching to just go now instead of waiting till the war ended, but she knew they couldnât. It was a strange feeling, not having everything planned out. Planning had always been one of Moiraâs strengths, and she had always known what to do with her life. Not really knowing where or when theyâd go travel was a bit exciting though, she had to admit that.Â
âI knew it was that.â He grinned so proud. âIâve been trying my best to get there, I might need your help though...â He smiled and nodded. âWe do need to save money, but weâll get there hun, itâll take time but weâll get there one day.â Gideon squeezed her hand, he knew it would take time until they could put their plans in motion, but they would get there, eventually they would get there.
That moment when your brother tells you, youâre whipped. But guess what, I donât mind!
Bringing Up Memories || Gideon & Marlene
Marlene held Gideon all the tighter as his sadness broke loose. His tears were not a sign weakness but rather of loss. It was a simple thing, really, to hold him close to her and comfort him. Her fingers found their way into his hair, and they sifted through his locks over and over. Her head rested easily on his shoulder. Marlene sighed softly in response to his whispered statement. She squeezed him tighter for a moment before pulling back slightly to see him better. âThere isnât anywhere else I could be right now,â she replied quietly.
Not even Dumbledore himself couldâve stopped Marlene from being there today, and sheâd told him as much when sheâd gone to see him the day before. No way was she going to miss something as important as the funeral of Mrs Prewett; the woman had practically been a second mother to Marlene. Pulling back further, she let her fingers trail down the back of his neck before dropping from his shoulders to pick up the book heâd been looking at. A fond smile curled Marleneâs lips as the pages fell open. âI remember this,â she said softly, watching an eight-year-old Gideon show off on a new toy broomstick.
Gideon held her so tight. He knew that Marlene was here because of him, because of his family. He knew how close she had been to his mum and he loved her for that. Marlene really was like a second daughter to his mother and he knew that wouldnât ever change even now that she wasnât here anymore. âThank you.â He muttered and leaned against her as they went into the photoalbum.Â
He smiled softly and nodded. âI do too, I had just gotten that broomstick for my birthday and I was really happy because the year before Fabian had gotten one and I didnât want one, but I kept stealing his so often that my parents decided to give me one as well.â He looked at the picture and smiled, watching little Gideon shoot from one side of the picture to the otherside. âGod I was such a show off back then.â He smiled âYou were there too, on that birthday, I remember that because it was the second or third time that you came to our birthdays and I wanted you to get on the back of the broom with me. Do you remember that?â
She smiled when he kissed her. âI suppose the Sorting Hat did a good job placing me in Ravenclaw.â Excitement was filling her body. It would be quite a while before they would get to travel, she knew that, but that didnât stop her from already looking forward to it. âOh can you imagine. Weâll have the entire world at our doorstep. I feel like when all of this is over then such a weight will be lifted off our shoulders and we can do whatever we want.âÂ
Gideon grinned and nodded. âHe did do a good job placing you there, youâre smart and clever and I love all that about you.â He grinned. âWe can go wherever we want to go, thereâs international floos, thereâs airplanes, thatâs what theyâre called right?â He looked a tad confused for a moment, he was learning about Muggle things slowly but surely. âI canât wait until we get to do that.â
âIs it the end of the school year yet?â
âYes, youâre very handsome, Gideon.â James said laughing. âYou think you can sneak out without her ever finding out. Or convince her to join until the war is over and then she can go live in the muggle world all she wants.âÂ
âNo I didnât mean sneaking out on her.. I already know I want to be part of the Order, and I will have to go on the missions and all that, but I meant that I want her to be okay with me going out, but I know she will worry about me..â He shrugged âitâs difficult to make the right decision on this to be honest..â
Bringing Up Memories || Gideon & Marlene
Marlene stood in the Prewettsâ kitchen after one of the saddest events sheâd ever attended. She hadnât been to many funerals in her short life, but in the back of her mind, Marlene expected that that would change soon enough. Shaking herself from such gloomy thoughts, she looked around the room. It was crowded with witches and wizards of varying ages and professions, all come to pay their respects. From the corner of her eye, she saw Gideon, and as her head turned toward him, he vanished around a corner.
Marlene made a snap decision to follow him. By the time she had elbowed her way through the crowd and across the room, Gideon was nowhere to be seen. That didnât deter Marlene in the least; she knew where he had gone. She found him just where sheâd thought, and she paused a moment in the doorway to study him before he noticed her. The image of one of her best friends sat with a photo album and a sad smile was achingly beautiful, and she had a sudden urge to wrap him up in the tightest hug she could manage. So she did just that. She was across the room in a heartbeat, sitting down next to him and throwing her arms around him. She didnât speak; theyâd been friends long enough not to need to, not yet. She spoke her emotions with touches and movements.
It took just that for Gideon to stop try and be strong, he leaned against her and felt the tears fall down his cheeks. He didnât think he would have more tears left after the last couple of days, but apparently he had and all it took was his best friend to hug him. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight, âI just canât imagine that sheâs actually gone now.â He whispered, âI know itâs better for her, but I donât want to feel better about this..â He looked at her âThank you for coming today, you have no idea how much that meant to me.â
The funeral had been beautiful, like his mother had been, quiet but beautiful. It had been like Gideon wouldâve wanted it to be. But it had meant the world to him to see Marlene there, he had been home from school for the past week to prepare for the funeral and the fact that sheâd come, made him feel so grateful.Â
âIs it the end of the school year yet?â
âI think I want to become an auror or anything that helps in the war, I just want to able to live without this darkness. Likewise Gideon, I wouldnât want to live without your pretty face. What do you wanna do after graduation except for going to live with Moira of course.âÂ
âPretty face.. Handsome, yes, but pretty?â He grinned and nudged him. âI was talking to Moira about this recently.. I told her that I wanted to join the Order.. Help out in the war, but I donât want to worry her and she wants to live in the Muggle world, and Iâd follow her anywhere.. â He shrugged âPerhaps Iâd be able to do both.â
