It’s been said that Singapore would not be as efficient without the use of Air-conditioning (air-con) technology, because everyone would be taking siestas in the humid and warm afternoons! If you’ve every tried to walk down a street on one of those afternoons under the blazing sun, you would admit there is some logic to the above hypothesis.
Of course, air-con usage has also flipped to the other extreme, where office workers have to bring sweaters and jackets to work, to endure the freezing cold of some centrally controlled air-con systems.
In any case, the air-con culture has also left its mark on the facades of buildings in Singapore, where the placement of air-con units by the building’s inhabitants lend an almost organic feel to the facade.
The other common sight in the built-up areas of Singapore is the flight of birds (mynahs, sparrows, crows etc) as they move from place to place, looking for scraps of food.
