1´1 Object

For this performance, I decided to use a pool accessory as my object. I wanted to represent creativity and how different people can inspire me to become more creative over time. At the beginning of the video, I wore a black shirt whith a black background to symbolize my mind being blank, without any ideas or inspiration. In the middle of the video, I changed to a pink shirt and a white background to show how the people in my life help spark my creativity, clear my mind, and inspire me to create art and feel happy. For this video, I asked my sister to help me add the pom poms to my "mind." I decided to keep the original audio in some parts to show how much fun we had while recording. I also added a song called "Pon Pón," which I found ironic since I'm using pom poms for this performance. The song fits well because it's something I would listen to while being creative and doing art. Towards the end of the video, my sister started putting pom poms all around my face, which represents how my creativity spreads and grows. This performance represents creativity but also shows the nice feeling of being inspired by the people around me.

The editing of the video is made by my sister since she wanted to help me more and she loves recording and editing things, so I’m glad she was able to enjoy this assignment as much as I did! At the end of the day, she helped me make the video more creative :D

ICA Miami What piece didn't you like or hated?

I didn't like these two for various reasons. I think that the second piece was interesting, i was really impressed by the materials used, yet the chose of those dark colors made me really not like it, I love colorful, vibrant things, so that's the main reason why I did not like that one. The piece "Denzil Hurley: In Praise of Use” on the other hand was somewhat plain, and the description was not saying much about the actual intentions of this abstract piece, so it wasn't interesting for me, I didn't understand the intentions which I think it's important when doing something so abstract.

What piece relates to your current practice?

I think these pieces sparked my interest since I love making colorful, fun art. I loved the choices of color and how they all show some depth. I think it relates to my current practice because I see myself doing something similar and I always use this type of colors in my practices.

What piece would you buy, and how much would you pay for it?

I would definitely buy this piece, I love how perfect it is and the colors that they chose. If I were to have money to buy it. I would pay uo to $20000 for that.

What piece would you like to move from its placement in the museum?

I would move this piece outside, since I think it blends better if it is in an outdoor area

What piece would you incorporate into the collection?

I would add more sculptures or more colorful things that caught the attention immediately.

Installation Corner

For this installation, we decided to make something fun that we all would enjoy. Our first thought was to make something trippy and fun and do a bunch of random weird objects. Our main elements were eyes, so that every person that entered the room would feel watched and that they are in another world. This was so fun to make, we made graffitis all over the walls doing random doodles and used glow in the dark paint for some parts. We also figured out the led lights could change their color depending on the sound, so we put a song that would fit with the vibe and also would make the lights change in a cool way. I loved this project because it was fun and colorful and we combined all of our styles and just had fun with it:) Overall, I think it came out great and we made a good use with the space that we had.

Materials: trash bags, spray paint, balloons, beach balls, googly eyes, neon paint, glow in the dark stars, stuffing markers.

A Container for my Memories: Process

A Container for my Memories

I decided to make this piece as a frame since I wanted to do something I could hang on the wall and display in my room while also helping me with storage. I struggled with the measurements for this frame and I was in the verge of tears but when I saw the end result I got so happy and it was so relieving to see something I worked so hard in look so good. I put a canvas on the inside to relate to the one outside. I painted the wood white because I felt like it would be a good contrast with the paintings since they are so colorful. Also, I included my mom's favorite decoration (that type of string, yute?) My dad helped me so much to assemble the door and make this work.

Rachel Whiteread’s “House”

I believe that Rachel Whiteread's House controversy is important because it created important conversations about art and society. Some people saw it as a waste of resources, but it brought attention to housing issues and made people think about the true value of home and memory. Even though it's a good piece of art, the location is the problem. People in the area tried to recover their house but they weren't successful, but then an inhabitable house goes in the area for art purposes while the ones trying to actually live there had to find somewhere else, it's wrong. At the end of the day, this controversy benefited her artwork because it got more famous because of this discussion and she got more recognized. Regardless of whether it gained recognition for positive or negative reasons, the artwork became a topic of conversation worldwide.

Family Fridge Final

In this project I brought to life a drawing from someone really important to me. I used sand to give it a bread texture and used fluffy yarn to make it look delicious and edible. The white modeling paste was used to resemble white buttercream, my favorite cake flavor from when I was little :)

I decided to use this drawing because it means a lot for me. I modified it to make it two layers since I believe that it looked better and made it look more like a cake. I also added the number 11, because it was my 11th birthday and I wanted to represent that it was old and a childhood memory.

Outside Composition

The prompt for this assignment was to do anything with anything. I went to publix and started playing around with some objects to see if it looked like something else. After I took the pictures, I started drawing on them to define more the shape and also giving the objects some faces to give them more personality:D

DO IT: Clouds

For this first assignment, we could do ANYTHING related to clouds. It could be a picture, a drawing, a sculpture, anything! My group and I started just drawing clouds and we were just going to take a picture with the drawing outside, but then we started getting more creative and started doing more elements to complement the clouds. We hung it and started having fun adding random elements.

The Eclipse vs. War

For this project, my group and I decided to print out a big poster of the flyers we gave out to people and brought the table we used with the results of the survey we made. We put some soldiers around the poster to represent the war they're having. 40 people interacted with our piece. We made this survey so that people would also be confused since it’s a weird question, and also see how they would react and if they would ask about that comparison.

Materials: Toy soldiers, paper, cardboard, double sided tape and paint.

Viral Intervention: Final Documentation

Our goal was to interview people and ask this absurd question to see how they would react. We also handed out a flyer to encourage them to participate. When they chose one of the two options, we would put a little soldier in the side they chose to see who won the war, the sun or the moon...Finally we got 40 responses, only three people responded that there is more panic in an eclipse. Two of them were children. In conclusion, the moon won the war. We went to the publix outside campus because we wanted to find people our age that would help us with this project. We also went around the plaza trying to find people and get them to interact with our piece.
