“A prince, yes.” She grinned at him, his eidetic memory maybe a burden to him but always amusing her immensely. “If I remember correctly, you were not very pleased with that as well.” Livia teased, still nervous but finding that talking to him about such trivial things made her calmer. Nodding when he agreed to go tot he tent, Liv led Francis there through the crow, smiles of recognition and waves to people she knew making her a little more nervous, but she kept the grin on her lips and pulled through. The minute they were inside the tent, Livia wrapped her arms around his body and pressed her cheek on his chest. “I think no matter how many people know about us, how open everything is.. I’ll always be happier when it’s just the two of us, cariño.” She spoke lowly, looking up at him with a soft smile on her lips. “I don’t want you to think I’m nervous because I’m not proud to have you by my side.” Livia whispered, feeling incredibly guilty about being so anxious. “I just.. We both lost too many people already. I don’t want anything, any little thing, in between us, or taking you away from me. I couldn’t be more proud to be yours, wolf. You didn’t even need no camels to get my heart.” She provoked, kissing his chin.

“I wasn’t,” he agreed without missing a beat. He was happy to let Quintus take care of it. After all he was better with being diplomatic yet forceful. After all they had to still do business with them. He could hear her heart beat quicken in pace as they moved through the crowd. He nodded his head to those that recognised them. He was not a social being but he wouldn’t be uncouth towards those that showed them respect. As they got into the tent he felt her arms go round him. He used one of his hands to stroke the hair out of her face as she spoke. “You know I am not the most social of beings either,” he told her. He had a few friends those he would protect with his life but he did not have a huge amount of people he would call friends. “We both have lost a lot, but I’m not going to be disappearing anytime soon,” he reassured her. “People have tried but I’m far more resilient now. I’ll be by your side as long as fate allows us,” he told her.

“Yeah, I’ve noticed that from him. If you call, he’s likely at work, or at least just has left work, which is such a strange thing to me. Why not enjoy your freedom? You only have so many years before someone decides to end you, after all” she said with a slight shrug of her shoulders. She wasn’t exactly new to workaholics, her father could likely be described with those words too. 

“He’s a big boy, but yeah… His last female companion is from what I’ve heard, quite the character. Went on a psychotic rampage after he broke up with her? Now that’s something he doesn’t need to fear with me at least. And I know, he’s the perfect gentleman when it comesto those little things like changing lights” She let a little laugh escape her lips. “But enough about your brother, Francis. How are your relationships in this city? Do you feel you’re having the chance to find your peaceful place?” She had given his brother some more peaceful places, after all. 

“He’s dedicated and doesn’t like to let anyone down. A trait we both share,” he shrugged. After all Francis loved his job but had a healthier work life balance than his elder brother. “He’s already been killed, but even if he hadn’t he’d probably still be the same workaholic,” he spoke. 

“I never met her as I was on a mission when it all happened. However from what I heard yeah she didn’t seem the stable type. Gave him a lot of trouble to clean up,” he sighed his eyes flickering over to Alek for a moment then back to Catalina. “My relationships are fine,” he replied to Catalina. He wasn’t sure to tell her about Livia yet. After all he was a massively private person in general. As for the peaceful place. Mostly he was content, but he still had the nightmares at night. Maybe one day he’ll stop having them. “Depends what you mean by peaceful place, but I’m okay and content here,” he told her.

Triplets. That was something Clara hadn’t seen in a while. What were the chances she ran into two out of three brothers in such a short period of time? Well, guess they were bigger than if they were only twins. “I guess so, but still I’m sure the most people who know you can tell the difference. It’s just people like me who slip up,” for a vampire you’d think she’d be handling things a bit better than that, but there was still time for her to make up for it all. “Still, sorry.” Clara offered again. It was important to her that she made good connections with anyone she could, especially because she might need back up at some point and it would be good if people favoured her.

“That’s completely fine,” Clara nodded before glancing at the drink selection, “would you be good with another one of what you’re having now or would you like to get something else?” if he needed something stronger after her mix up, she’d completely understand. “Oh, yes,” she before slightly shaking her head to herself and silently scolding herself for not introducing herself as soon as they established that they don’t know each other.

“I’m Clara,” she said and offered the man a slight smile, “I moved to Bergen for work not too long ago and I’m just trying to get the feel of the place and meet people around it. While I meet quite a lot of people at the university, I’d like to meet people outside my work environment. Hence why I am hanging out in here.”

“Only those close to us,” he told her with a shrug. He still got mixed up for Alek. Which he couldn’t understand sometimes. Then again obviously they knew which one was which. So he couldn’t really understand what other people saw that made them think he was Alek at times. “So not just you, and you’ve only just arrived so you have more of a reason than most,” he reassured her. 

“Another one of these is fine,” he told her just appreciating that she was getting him another drink. She didn’t have to at all. Though it seemed the mix up was stressing her out just as much as it initially did for him. He was calmer now and could tell that the girl would not make the same mistake again. 

“Makes sense,” he nodded. After all bars were a hub of activity and there were those like him that liked to drink alone but be somehow surrounded by people. It made the whole experience of drinking alone seem less depressing. Also an attack was harder to pull off in a crowded space. “Well I am not a local but I have been here for as long as some locals,” he informed her. “Work in a private military,” he added. He didn’t really expand on it. He wasn’t great at small talk at the best of times.

Maya didn’t have many friends. Not in Bergen, not ever. There was a good reason behind it, something that others did not know. However, most of them did know the prior thing. The one about her not having friends. She had people who she could tolerate and people she was somewhat fond of, not that she would admit it anyway. And Francis was one of those people. The two could drink in silence for hours and it would feel as if they’ve poured out their souls to each other. “Nothing to thank me for,” she mused quickly, knowing that he would’ve done the same for her if the situation was turned for the two of them. “Good, if you’re ever unsure, you know how to reach me and I’ll tell you how much.” she nodded back. “In that case,” she began as she slightly smirked into her glass, “challenge accepted.” She claimed before taking another sip of her drink. She knew it wouldn’t be easy but if there was a chance of her proving something wrong to and impressing Francis at the same time, she’d take it. “Well, wasn’t there for my good looks now, that’s for sure,” she tried to turn things into a joke but things went back to their gloomy mood when Francis asked the question. She knew he knew exactly who she was referring to. They both fully understood each other. “I was offered a deal,”  she said as she turned to the side to look at Francis, “but I think I’ve made myself perfectly clear when I declined it.” She wouldn’t side with someone shady. Well… not unless there was a good reason, and here there wasn’t one.

Francis would do anything for his friends and the family he considered deserving of it. Leon was not in that bracket. So it was nice to know some would do the same in return. “I will do and I’ll let you know how I get on with these,” he spoke. He would appreciate any night where he didn’t dream of his family’s murder. Leon’s presence was making it worse. 

Francis chuckled and shook his head. If she managed to find a vulnerability in the system it was better a friend discovering it than a foe. “We’ll see how you get on,” he replied back wondering himself if she could do it. “You never truly know with him,” he sighed with a hint of annoyance. Though she didn’t seem harmed. He was just starting his game. Whatever it was this time. “Good, he’ll be persistent though, so just watch out and he’s by no means afraid to use dirty tricks to get what he wants,” he told her. “I know you can look after yourself, but if he gives you trouble let me know,” he told her. He might not want a family feud but if he keeps trying to piss him off there might just be one on the horizon.

No, it was all for her sake. After all, what self respecting woman would allow her bloodline to be further dirtied by letting those rednecks raise a Black child alone? “Do you have children of your own, perhaps?”

Francis slowly nodded. “I guess not,” he agreed. Not that he was sure what he would do if he did come across a child in one of his missions. Probably the same as Quintus and adopt them and try the best to raise them. Though having a Mercenary as a father was not a great environment Livia turned out alright. “Had,” he corrected her. “A very long time ago but they were killed,” he told her truthfully. It was about as much as he could really talk about it. He could at least admit that they were murdered.

Livia took in a deep breath, involuntarily squeezing Franciszek’s hand. She wasn’t sure why she was so nervous, the possibly dangerous step had already been taken: they had told her father about their relationship. But now they were making their first official appearance as a couple. There would be people there that probably worked with Francis, men that worked for her father. His brothers would be there too, most likely. Pretty much the entire town. Walking into the main tent, Livia’s eyes went wide. Everything looked absolutely amazing! “Wow..” She sighed, looking up at Francis with eyes full of surprise. “Looks just like my 20th birthday in Turkey, remember?” Livia smiled, tugging on his hand. “You want to go straight to our tent? Check it out?”

The problem with being a shifter was he was a walking emotion detector. He could hear that Livia’s pulse was raising even before she started squeezing his hand. He squeezed it gently back in reassurance. He had to face the music himself. After all, Alek knew, but Leon didn’t and he was the type to take note. Then there were his men. something they could use against him. Though he can easily put them back in their place.  He was already checking the sounds out. His hazel scanning checking out exits and already taking estimates of how many people were there and looking out for Leon. However, when Livia spoke his attention went to her. “I remember. Didn’t someone try to buy you for some camels? I remember Quintus told him where to go,” he asked though of course, he remembered the details vividly. Eidetic memory was a gift and a curse. As she gave him the option he thought it would be a smart idea. He could survey more and get more of a feel for the place. “Let’s go to the tent,” he agreed.

Something about the way he laughed made her chill to the bone. She didn’t usually have that reaction but every now and then Maya would get a feel of other people’s aura and their headspace if it was strong and distinctive enough and his was practically exploding in the place right now. Still, she knew that Francis wouldn’t do anything reckless. Or at least she hoped. “Well, you’re in luck then,” she mused as she reached into her bag and placed a special herb bag in front of him as well as a custom made (by her obviously) dream catcher. “You mix the herbs with your food or drink before you’d like to go to sleep and consume it that way. Don’t put too much though as you don’t want to deal with the side effects of overusing it. As for the dream catcher, hang it above your bed preferably. It should do just enough if you take these regularly.”

Taking care of Francis was like taking care of a grown up child. Frustrating at times. “And make sure you start coming to the shop again or the next time you see me will be when I move into your house.” she fake threatened him before waving at the bartender to get her a drink. “Peachy,” she started as she tapped her fingers against the bar counter, “had some new customers in the shop. People who think there’s more things in the shop being sold than just my products.” like her integrity. She wasn’t going to say it outloud though, not if he was already trying to avoid the conversation. Instead she would just do the same, Francis would be smart enough to know what she meant.

Francis appreciated Maya. He was close to Livia. Well more than close with her, but there were some things he liked to remain behind closed doors. Maya never asked or pried which was something he liked about her. If he talked to Livia about this she would have every right to ask him why. He was just not ready to quite relive it in graphic detail as he told her. He would in time. He knew he had to. He was just mentally preparing for it. “Thanks, Maya,” he told her appreciatively. Taking the herbs out of her hand and into one of his pockets. “I’ll make sure to not take too much,” he nodded.

Francis shook his head a shadow of a smile dancing on his lips. “If you can break the system I have without noticing colour me very impressed,” he told her with a slight mischevious glint in his eye. “Trying to get something out of you sounds...” he paused and narrowed his eyes at her studying her momentarily. She clearly didn’t say it outright but he had a feeling it was to do with Leon. It always had something to do with him. “They didn’t try anything with you did they?” he asked. A strike on his friend and girlfriend were something he could not take lightly. He would make sure that Leon would at least respect that Francis would not take well to him

For someone so chatty the last time, the man now seemed to be in a surprisingly bad mood and something was more than just off. It wasn’t long until he finally found his words and managed to completely confuse Clara for a split second. What did he mean by he? Wasn’t he the he? And then the explanation followed. Her jaw slightly dropped the second the man explained what was actually going on and she could feel the shame and embarrassment flooding in almost instantly. “I am so sorry, sir,” Clara said quickly as she could see the brothers didn’t really get along from his reaction and she didn’t want to make things worse for anyone present or not present, “I had no idea. I didn’t mean to cause you any discomfort.”

She listened as the man introduced her to his brothers who weren’t present at the moment. Identical triplets in the same town. What were the chances? But from what he was saying it almost seemed as if he was trying to imply something and Clara could instantly connect it to the impression she made about the shifter that same night. How dangerous could he be if even his brother didn’t like him? “Thank you for sharing that, I’ll make sure I pay better attention next time so I wouldn’t cause another mishap. I’m so sorry again, sir,” Clara said before waving over at the bartender as well and handing him some money, “The next few rounds are on me as an apology.”

It would not be the first time, nor the last he knew that much but the fact Leon had decided to make his presence known to Livia first which only served to piss him off even more. However, he could not act in his usual way of shoot first and ask questions later. Leon loved to play games and should he react too drastically he would only serve to put Livia under the cold gaze of his younger brother. He could tell she was new. Especially with the flurry of an apology and the addendum of sir.

“It’s okay being part of a triplet you do get used to being mixed up with the other two,” he shrugged his shoulders. Though it had been a long time since he was mixed up for Leon. Was the asshole not content with the states? “Not your fault,” Francis stated simply. He understood she meant no harm. Just it was hard to deal with someone that has caused him so much pain in his life.

“It’s okay,” he repeated shaking his head. “You can get my next round but I’m leaving at that. Just here for a couple, not to get legless,” he told her. “Anyway since we established who I am, it’d be rude of me not to ask about yourself,” he asked. Wondering how exactly she wounded up talking to Leon in the first place.

Things were slowly falling into place since Clara moved to Bergen. She had met some people, started her new job and has learned fair amount of ins and outs when it came to the little town. It still wasn’t the best it could be, but she was getting there. There was only so much one could do when they had to be cautious with every step they take.

Getting into the bar that was now one of the common places she visited, she saw a familiar face. Or at least that’s what she thought. She could tell there was something different about him since the last time they met and it wasn’t just the fact that he had suddenly grown a beard. It was something else as well and she couldn’t really put her finger on it. However, she was not going to be rude and she was going to try and maintain the civil relationship they managed to establish the last time. “I didn’t take you for a man who liked to grow a beard.” She said as she sat down next to him and ordered a drink. “How come you’ve decided for such a change? Not that it looks bad, I’m just curious.”

Francis was having more and more episodes at night since the news of Leon being around hit him. That night he hated so so much play8ing over and over again. He had decided coming in for a drink or two in the bar might take his mind off things but even he knew better that it wouldn’t. However he was trying one last time.

Francis looked at the vampire when she talked to him. The senses they have make it more likely that she was mixing him up for Leon. “He’s not, if he has not changed his preferences since I last met him,” he shook his head trying not to unleash the anger that is now building up in him to the poor vampire that just mistaken him for his asshole brother. “Identical triplets,” he explained and quickly finished off his drink and waved over the bartender for another one. Though he was curious after all Leon loathed vampires. 

“You have the one you met, Leon I presume. Looks younger than me. Dresses very sharply. Seemingly innocent. Then you have Aleksander, the chief of police and Myself Franciszek,” he told her. He added the seemingly innocent as to warn her to be very careful around him.

Making her way to the bar, she thought about everything that has happened lately. Maya wasn’t a fan of too many things coming together in a single week, but that’s how things were and she needed a drink. Something to calm her nerves and help collect her thoughts. She might be a mess, but she could still make some decisions with a leveled head.

She was barely through the door when she spotted a familiar face sitting at the bar. Usually, she’d walk right over and plop down, but this time, she had to take a good look before coming over. She didn’t really want to walk into the wrong brother. This one was one of the acceptable ones.

Sitting down next to Francis, Maya ordered a drink and spent a several moments drinking in silence. She knew he wasn’t too big of a fan of conversations. “How’ve you been sleeping lately?” she asked him after some time. Maya used to make incenses and herbs for Francis to put in his room that helped him get some sleep. However, she hasn’t seen him in a while and she couldn’t help but wonder. And besides, this was a better conversation opener than telling him she had met his brother.

He could smell Maya as she came in and noticed her slight hesitation. He was used to them trying to figure out which Serafin they were dealing with, but now Leon was in the mix so he was wondering if she was being cautious or just trying to figure out if it was himself or Alek.

She finally sat down and he was finishing his drink when she started making conversation. Francis gave a single laugh. One that was filled with slight frustration. “Not great. Still having episodes,” he shook his head. He can guess they were more frequent because Leon was not reentering his thoughts with him being around. After all it was him who orchestrated the incident that caused Francis to be the way he was. He knew Livia was noticing as well. He wanted to protect her from worry but he could tell he was failing and only getting her more worried which may mean he’s going to have to talk about that time. “But thanks for asking. How are things with you?” he asked deflecting slightly.

Livia had tried her best all day not to look nervous, to seem relaxed about Francis invitation. But her father wasn’t easy to fool. Whatever he thought the reason for that meeting was, Quintus knew it was something both Livia and Francis wanted to talk about, together. Liv could only hope her father wasn’t thinking it was something too bad. The last thing they needed was for Quintus to already arrive worried and with a bad impression. Liv stood next to him, arms locked, when her dad pressed the button in the intercom. Quintus smiled lightly at her and kissed her temple right before Francis opened the door. As usual, the vision of him made her heart race and that was something she couldn’t control, also probably something her father had grown used to. 

“Serafin.” Quintus nodded his head, smiling. “Thank you for inviting us over.” He said, beckoning Livia to walk in before him. Liv stepped forward, her brain working a mile a minute. How did she used to greet Francis before? She could barely remember. But should she even try to pretend there was nothing between them anymore? “Francis.” She said lightly, a smile on her lips, that one smile only Francis could pull out of her, and stood on her tip-toes to kiss his cheek.  

For someone that could easily keep their cool in a black ops mission in the middle of enemy territory this was what was starting to make his heart race and he was aware that Quintus would be able to hear it. He managed to take a deep breath and quickly control it the way he would during any big high risk mission. After all this was what he wanted and when he had a goal he would try his damned hardest to obtain it. “You’re welcome sir. May I take your coats?” he asked. Though not often an entertainer he did learn the etiquette to make sure Quintus was at least at much in ease as he could be. 

As Livia smiled at him he subtly smiled back but still trying to keep as much of a poker face as possible. “Livia,” he greeted warmly.

Francis made his way up to her going inbetween her legs and letting her take his hand. “Missed me huh?” he repeated. “Wondering how you will handle me going on missions again,” he told her. For now he was focusing on training the latest new team and helping Quintus look after the operations of the company. Though it was more of the checking in and training he was involved with. He did meet clients on occasion but due to his frank nature it was always better if Quintus met with them. Diplomat, he was not. “He does yeah,” he agreed. “We do look out for each other. After all we both been through a lot together,” he shrugged. They had shared trauma and Alek even came back for him.

Trust me, once you’re up closer I find out who is who — plus, I don’t really keep track of how often who shaves.” Fact was, despite them looking alike, Lavinia was never interested in Francis. The Chief on the other hand… it was odd, even for her. “Right? I’m actually surprised — but on the other hand, I’ve always told him that he needs to get laid so bad.”

“Okay I get it,” he sighed mildly. Forgetting he had enhanced senses to see in the dark was a lot easier for him than other species. Other than vampires. They also wore different styles of clothing. However he wasn’t going to keep arguing why she shouldn’t mix them up. “He has been, just not in the way he wants. Or rather allowed himself to do it with who he wants.” he shook his head. “That job had him concerned about public image and got in the way of his better judgement. Shame I wasn’t there to stop the shotgun proposal and almost wedding,” he sighed.

She did seem to have a love for the bouncing after all, and for Emery to start crying in the store, was the last thing she could handle. “Yeah, I think most who’s had kids do” She said with a slight nod of her head. “Yeah… Her parents passed away three weeks ago, and I was the blood relative of the best condition to care for her, despite the distant blood. Her paternal parents.. No matter how little maternal I am, she’s better off with me, than them” 

Francis nodded slowly agreeing. “That’s still good maternal instincts to have. To recognise what is better for the child,” he told her. “Very selfless too. It’s not an easy undertaking to say the least,” he sighed. After all it was not easy on their uncle to look after three young boys all those years ago. One of which was showing increasing signs of mental instability and dangerous jealousy. He remembered they all had their frustrations as well.
