The judge and the defendant came to know each other well during the six weeks Bundy was on trial. Despite being on the opposite sides of the bench, they seem to have developed compassion for and respect for each other. « I have a great mixture of concern for him and for the victims, » Coward said.
A look of deep concern crossed Cowartâs face when a reporter commented that Bundy expects to be sentenced to death. Pausing for a long moment to think about it, Coward said, « I donât know what he could base that on. We havenât even heard the evidence. » Coward expressed concern when the former Utah law student said he wanted to defend himself. As often as the 32-year-old defendant tried to take over his own defense, Cowart urged him not to. The judge said he was concerned about the « adequacy of representation » and likened it to letting a second-year medical student perform brain surgery.
âThis case was as serious as brain surgeryâ, Coward said, « but I wondered sometimes if he understood the severity of it. Itâs a shame he didnât complete that legal training. »
There were many heated clashes between Coward and Bundy, but none with any apparent animosity. « I guess we had quite a few exchanges. I tried to be stern, but Iâm not angry at the man. ». - The Tampa Times, July 27, 1979

This whole case is crazy. Now theyâre having a bunch of FBI profilerâs and psychologists and stuff analyze his interviews to see if there was anything that jumped out or screamed guilty or anything in his interviews. The one guy almost couldnât find anything that he thought would really be wrong with it. But this FBI profiler found more things like his body language. She said his body language isnt matching what hes saying. She said hes standing in a very defensive stance. With his arms crossed and just holding himself and that indicates a defense with his body language but his actual language is saying hey Iâm open and I donât know anything. Shes saying his words but the way his Body language is,donât match. His words are saying heâs open and he doesnât know anything & his body is Showing heâs closed and defensive. And I had noticed two things when I saw the initial interview. Heâs not wearing a wedding ring and when heâs talking about the kid starting school, he talks about her in past tense. You donât usually talk about somebody in past tense unless you know theyâre dead. So even these experts are saying There are somethings but as a whole it wouldnât jump out to them and scream anything alarming. And that is scary & really shows signs of like a true psychopath. And they said it shows extreme extreme arrogance to do all those interviews and stuff thinking that youâre going to be able to fool everybody. That itâs not normal to be able to think you Can pull that off. They were saying thatâs why most people who are guilty stay away from those things but there are some who are involved in the media and stuff like that from the very start and they named off a few cases of where that has happened but itâs rare. People usually donât have the confidence in themselves that they have the ability to just completely lie and make things up like that to be able to fool the whole world.
Basically, this guy is a complete psychopath. And I really hate to say it but I hope he gets killed in jail. Isnât that sad where sometimes other inmates are the only ones who can really give justice? Sure they can lock him away for life but what justice is that giving? Or letâs say thereâs been inmates who are watching this and know what he did. And letâs see theyâre already going to be there for life so they really have nothing to lose. Especially when it comes to crimes against little kids like that, you know what happens to a lot of them in jail? That doesnât fly with the other inmates. Especially if they have kids and they did a crime not even half as bad & now they can never see their family again. âSo now you are the monster who just killed your whole family for no fucking reason so now Iâm going to end your lifeâ type of thing.
It happened plenty of times where the only real justice was one other inmates took it in their own hands with cases like this.
Then you have people saying but âoh my god if they were found at his work then he obviously didnât do it, that would be way too obvious, he was obviously set upâ. Oh Lord, donât even get me started with these people saying that.
What a sad, sick, and twisted case this has turned into and just this amount of time
Just watched the live sentencing of Chris Watts and I just donât understand, the man killed his wife and children out of nowhere! With serial killers there is at least a psychological profile that can help you understand why they are driven to do what they do, but with something like this it is made more disturbing by the fact that we donât even have a decent motive, a loving family man suddenly decides to kill his wife and babies when he could have just gotten a divorce! Itâs scary to wonder if the people we love are hiding the potential for horrible acts of violence as well.
