It’d be a lie to say she didn’t also need the grounding moment of the hug, but Zatanna finds it far easier to worry about caring for others than reflect on how she feels. She squeezes Jess’ shoulders then blinks at the question, her mind rushing wildly, blankly, before finally blurting out an answer. “Constantine is- John’s fine. He…” She isn’t sure what’s behind the urge to say that, especially when the only times she mentions him to other Leaguers is to complain, though maybe she needs to share with another person for it to feel real. He certainly isn’t the only person she cares for deeply, and her heart aches with all the loss anyway, but she’s self aware enough to know she’d be gone if he had happened to be in Metropolis. Her eyebrows tug together, and she shakes her head slightly. “All of the Dark- Boston, Jason Blood, Alba and the rest- no one on my team was there. I’ve, ah, been at the evac zone, mostly. How are- how have you been?”
Jess can’t help the slight smile that curls the corners of her lips at Zee’s response - she doesn’t know all of the details and it’s not her business to ask, but she knows there’s some kind of history between John and Zatanna. At least if he’s alright, that’s one less thing her friend needs to worry about. “I’m glad they’re alright.” Jess offers kindly, reaching to give Zee’s hand a gentle squeeze. She’s not exactly the best at coping with situations like this, but Jess isn’t oblivious - she knows others are struggling just as much, and she wants to be there for them as much as she can. “I’m - I’m alright. The other Lanterns weren’t in Metropolis either, thank god -” She’s not sure where Simon is, her partner seems to have a habit of falling out of touch at the worst times, but at least she knows wherever he is he’s safe. “I’m just.. trying to figure out what comes next, I guess.”
