the texas chain saw massacre (1974) outtakes
just finished watching robert altman's THE LONG GOODBYE and i really dig it, even though i would probably love it more if i watched back in 2019 when i was in this 'los angeles neo-noir' vibe after watching UNDER THE SILVER LAKE.
but the thing that really bothered me while watching was the quality of the digital version. is so trash! and the new 4k bluray is also trash! i wonder how the movie feels while watching in 35mm.
look how grainy it is lmao. and the new 4k bluray doesn't really change much - they just statured the colors so the dark scenes become even darker!
just finished watching 'american werewolf in london' and at first i wasn't sure about it - the first 30 minutes reminded me at best peckinpah's straw dogs, at worst edgar wright's cornetto trilogy - but the rest of the movie, especially after the wolf attack, is pretty neat. very gruesome.
the popular reviews on letterboxd talk about how funny the movie is (and it is! the porn theater massacre is funny!) and the queer subtext (meh), but very few are talking about how serious the conclusion is—not only for his tragedy of having to die but also the image of his naked body, shot and bleeding on the street.
