Amine solution absorbs both hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide gas or only hydrogen sulphide gas. This type of solution is called sour gas or acid gases. 

Besides it, amine solution like piperazine and N-methyldiethanol amine (MDEA) is used in the removal of carbon dioxide. This process is widely used, especially in an industry like the food and beverage industry and the natural gas production industry. It is because MDEA has a low heat of reaction, and piperazine has a high reaction rate. 

In biogas production, it is sometimes needed to remove carbon dioxide from biogas to make it comparable with natural ones. It is also helpful in the final purification of gaseous hydrogen.

Similarly, triazine is also used as carbon capture. Due to the greenhouse effect, carbon dioxide activity is increasing year by year. It has a covalent framework, and due to its porous nature, it captures well. 

Hydrogen sulphide is a very hazardous and toxic gas. Both ammine solution and triazine act as hydrogen sulphide scavengers. They are so-called because they react with the gas and form eco-friendly products. The former, by the process of absorption and chemical reaction, remove hydrogen sulphide while later is used in stimulation treatment to remove the gas. By removing it ensures the safety of the personnel, pipeline, and infrastructure facility.

The products formed depend on the composition and type of scavenger. You should choose proper scavenger as it is imperative as its function. Hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide being acid gas are corrosive to carbon steel. MEA and DEA due to the high reaction rate are used in removing the high volume of gas. 

Moreover, triazine along with their derivatives, are used as dyes, resins, and also as herbicides. A well-known triazine is a melamine that is actively used as resins, fire retardant agent, and pesticide. The main composition of dye is chlorine substituted triazine.

Why is pH Adjustment Important in H2S Removal from Water?

Hydrogen sulfide is known to be neither primary nor a secondary contaminant under the existing drinking water requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency; however, if the content of hydrogen sulfide underwater is greater than 0.5 parts per million (ppm), it will:

· Have an unpleasant smell.

· Oxidize iron, steel, copper, and brass in very well housing/pipework/bathroom fixtures

· Taint or discolored silverware, copperware, and brassware

· Smudge laundry and bath fixtures yellow or black

· Discolor drinks

· Change the characteristics and flavor of prepared meats.

Sulfate is graded as a supplementary contaminant with a secondary MCL (Maximum Contaminant Level) of 250 ppm. High sulfate levels over 250 ppm:

There are several recovery methods available to remove hydrogen sulfide and sulfate from domestic water. The choice of form and scale of the treatment method depends on the intensity of hydrogen sulfate and sulfite in the water. The intensity also varies on whether you require a point-of-entry (whole-house treatment) or point-of-use (one-gripe water treatment for drinking and cooking) device. If the concentration gets increased, care of the entire house is usually advised.

When seeking H2S removal from water using degasification or amine solution, the pH must get correctly balanced before treatment. This gets more difficult if you are not even using water for membrane filtration or softening. When the pH of the water increases just above a pH of 5.5, it becomes much more difficult to transfer the H2S or the sulfides into a gaseous state to enable them to get separated as a gas through a degasification process that uses a detoxifier.

Hydrogen Sulfide

At a pH of 7, the conversion rate decreases, and the regular degasification tower can extract just 80-85 percent of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), keeping behind the residual hydrogen sulfide (H2S) levels. In most situations, by reducing the pH to 5.5 (Ideal level) or at minimum a pH of 6, the removal efficiency improves to 99 percent. Where high water purity is needed, such as breweries or canneries, the rate of H2S removal from water can get to 99.99 percent.
