PAST
When your dream as a child is to become the most ‘successful’ slave, perhaps be owned by the kind sort of master, who thought just enough of you to not actively treat you like you’re lower than dirt, it changes your perceptions as a young adult. Meeting Anakin Skywalker seemed to throw a wrench into those plans - the days of living on a dirt-ball covered in scorching suns or sleeping your nights away on a cold, ship floor - all of it seemed to fall away under the attention and respect of someone like Anakin. Someone brave, and strong, and so intelligent that it always made Kit grin with awe to think about it.
Even after Anakin’s departure from slave-hood, something in Kit seemed to have died; perhaps it was simply the ‘slave’ in him, denigrating under the energy of the ship Anakin had flown away on. After, Kit could no longer fall into line when the Hutts called for him, shackled him to floors or tables, slashed away at his hands and back with an electro-whip. He could no longer mindlessly fall to his knees with pretense, knowing damn well that he was worth more, as were all of the other slaves housed with him on that same dirt-ball he’d grown to hate.
It was then that Kit decided to take fate into his own hands, Anakin’s proud voice in his head and a newfound confidence on his back. He worked hard every day of his teenage years to earn his freedom - making bets and winning races - and the losses seemed less and less trivial as time went on. How long would he be under the stern boot of someone else’s name? Sold along as someone else’s property?
Things came to a head, when his mother passed. When the one person he had sworn to protect was no longer a reason to hold himself back, Kit held her love in a ring that she’d stolen for him on his 15th birthday, made from an ore that looked like endless night, and nearly indestructible, and made his new dreams a reality.
While Kit was no Jedi, he would still fight for the rights of the slaves he’d left behind - vowed to free them in whatever way he could. Even as he’d grown older, fought alongside other pilots, soldiers, freed slaves - Kit kept in the back of his head how strong a freed slave really could be. Through the clone wars, Kit was always on the backline, helping villagers and slaves from planets that were ravaged by war, and he had never forgotten what Anakin had done for him, even as darkness had grown over the Republic.
PRESENT
Waking up on the planet you were supposedly born on, which you had only visited once since childhood, was a little bit of a shock when you had gone to sleep lightyears away, certainly older and wiser.
Even more odd, was the sense that things were not as they appeared. Being thrown forward into the future, but at a younger age, sort of feels like maybe this was the second chance Kit had always sort of hoped he’d get. An opportunity to do more, to learn more, to be more than just the slave on Tatooine.
It came as no surprise to Kit, when word of a looming war was on the horizon. There would always be war, violence, when different opinions were involved. But what had surprised him, was mention of the name he’d always admired - Skywalker. In seedy bars, under the name Kiri’n, Kit gathered information across worlds, hoping to find the man who’d always inspired him.
