Hello! My name is Jess. I write for primarily post war attack on Titan. I do take requests but also just write for me and what I want to see. Don't like don't interact. ♡
As a 30-year-old who constantly has to train 16- and 17-year-olds at work, I know exactly how the veterans must feel like every time a fresh batch of recruits shows up, spewing their latest nonsense slang. Imagine Levi's exhaustion at the words “skibidi” or “bussin" coming out of Connie's mouth
Yes but then imagine he learns it and uses it, not always correctly and uses it in that dad way where it's not wrong, but it's also not the right way to use it.
A slightly different question this time—for my readers. What other AOT ships do you like? I want to introduce more of them in my fics, and I’m wondering if there are any I should consider for my roster. I’m not asking about alternative Jean or Reiner ships, as none of my WIPs have space for them.
The ships that have already been used and/or are planned for the stories I’m working on: Ymir/Historia, Erwin/Levi, Porco/Pieck, and Armin/Annie. Technically, Eren and Mikasa are always a thing in the background.
I’m considering exploring the Levi/Hange dynamic in the future, as well as Levi/Onyankopon. Any other suggestions? :3
Regarding the "Jean should be a commander" debate: as much as I like the idea of Jean as a commander, I believe Hange doesn't choose him because he values his comrades more than the mission's goal. That's the difference between him and Armin.
In the course of time, Armin becomes quite similar to Erwin. He is able to put his emotions aside and make calculated decisions; ones that might seem cruel to the onlookers. Ones that are necessary to win. He models his way of thinking on what he believes is Erwin's way of thinking: "people who don't sacrifice anything, gain nothing". "What else do I have to sacrifice?"
Jean protests Erwin's choices and leadership skills already during the mission to capture the Female Titan, whereas Armin embraces them and explains why the Commander did what he did.
Jean is angry because people died. Armin sees beyond that.
Hange knows Jean cares too deeply, even about his enemies. When Hange wants to kill Reiner in Shiganshina, it's Jean who stops them. It's Jean who wants to keep giving people second chances, no matter how much they've hurt him. At the same time, Armin gives his enemies (Bertholdt) an opportunity to speak their mind, but once there is no room for negotiation, he is ready to fight.
One could say Jean isn't a commander for the same reason Levi isn't a commander. They both value human life and hate the idea of an empty death. Yes, they can make difficult decisions. Yes, they are able to get the job done and, yes, they are good leaders. But putting them in a position where they would have to consciously send hundreds of soldiers to death would be cruel.
For Jean the end doesn’t always justify the means.
My personal view on this is that in a universe where there was no more veterans and Levi died (most likely in the thunderspear explosion), Armin may have taken up the title of Commander, but Jean would become the next "humanities strongest" as Levi had been or even "the last hope" as Eren had been.
He doesn't mean to of course. To himself, he's just Jean, a man trying to survive. But to what's left of humanity, they seek their solace in him, place their faith in him. Many already quietly compared every soldier to Levi, and Jean was the closest to.
Or many compared him to Eren. Hot Headed, stubborn, among other things.
So no. Jean wouldn't be Commander, but he would accidentally become the next "Humanities strongest" but much like his predecessor, to himself, he is just Jean.
Heyo...so I'm working an AU fic takes place in a world where all the remaining vets died during the reclaiming of Wall Maria and thr remaining members of the scouts fill in various roles. We'll see if I ever publish it lol.
@fromriches-tosin had asked what the boys were doing this Valentines day. So I typed this up.
Jean was out for a couple of hours helping Levi with some of his physical therapy. The captain had been getting slightly more mobile, but he was still a long way away. The doctors had already said he'd never be able to walk unsupported again, but he may have been able to walk small distances with a cane. Jean had been helping Levi stand again.
Reiner had wanted to do something special for Valentine's Day, and Jean had never celebrated. In fact, there were many holidays he had never celebrated as on Paradis. There just wasn't such a concept, and Reiner was determined to introduce his boyfriend to every holiday celebrated in Marley.
He had decided to try to bake a cake, but it seemed more complicated than Jean made it look. Jean baked somewhat often and cakes were something he could do in a couple hours, no box cake mix or anything. He made it look so...easy.
Granted, Reiner had never baked before in his life and he had probably gotten a little in iver his head making a red velvet cake, a layered one at that. He had wanted to make something special for Jean, and to show him he wasn't totally helpless in the kitchen.
He stared at the directions on the box and then his bowl. It didn't look how to box described. It was quite runny...
He stared at the box, as if searching for any help. But of course the box revealed nothing.
He grabbed some flour and he put some spoonfuls in flour thickened everything up, right? Jean used it a lot, what's the worst that could happen?
He poured the batter into 3 round cake pans and he squeezed them together in the oven. He made the frosting and awkwardly waited for the cakes to bake.
He pulled the cakes out and frowned. They looked rather...flat. Not at all fluffy and moist like Jean's...
He put one of the cakes on the counter and he put some icing on the cake and put the second one on, and then the third and he iced them. How did Jean make it look so good? Why could he see the cake?
He sighed and sat on the chair as the door opened.
"Jean." He smiled.
Jean walked in and he kissed his cheek. "Hey. How was it?"
"Fine...." Reiner glanced at the disgraceful cake.
Jean followed his gaze and he walked over, looking at the cake. He giggled at the look.
"Happy Valentines day." Had been written in sloppy icing writing. Jean laughed again.
"Awe. Did you make this?" Jean chuckled.
Reiner nodded but didn't say anything.
Jean cut into it and took a bite. "It's very dry..."
"Do you not like it..?" Reiner frowned, cursing himself.
"I love it." Jean said softly.
"H-huh?" Reiner was caught off gaurd.
Jean came closer and wrapped his arms around Reiner's shoulders. "I love it because you made it." He kissed him. "It's not the cake that matters."
Reiner smiled softly and blushed, embarrassed.
"Now, let's make a real cake." Jean smiled and put Reiner's cake aside amd cleaned the cake pans.
Jean seems the type to be prescribed anti-depressants and takes them and then stops because he "feels better now" and gets depressed again and goes "Oh YEAH. That's why I needed those! :○"
And yes I am well aware this is after christmas...I forgot to hit post which is embarrassing. Pretend I posted this when I meant to.
Summery: Just our favorite dorks trying to learn what this "christmas" is
Characters: Levi, Jean, Falco, Connie, Reiner
TW: Fluff, Levi being a dad, slight angst in the beginning?, ooc but I really don't care. Christmas.
Christmas.
It was a new concept after the rumbling, the first hesitant celebration of anything in the world.
It was also Jean's first winter off of Paradis, and fuck it was cold! Sure it got chilly in Paradis, but it was still warm, not cold and dark for most of the day. It was a familar cold.
The Marley winter felt more harsh. Bitter. Unwelcoming.
Much like Levi, now that he thought about it. The man seemed to be the very embodiment of the season he was born in.
But...there were the beautiful times too.
The Aurora was beautiful. To see all the colors bouncing and moving. He hadn't seen them before outside of pictures. He had stayed outside for hours watching them until Levi had drug him back in.
He turned back to the house they were still staying in all together. He wasn't sure how much longer it would last, but Levi had said everyone was welcome to stay as long as they needed.
Maybe the man just didn't want to be alone. Jean sure didn't.
Connie and Armin seemed to be on the mend, trying to create a new semblance of normal from their new lives, trying to discard their old identity in favor of a new one. Jean envied them, really. They made it seem so simple.
Then again, Armin was just built different, and Connie had seen more than enough tragedy for many lifetimes he was able to almost brush them off.
Jean had seen many tragedies as well, but they affected him deeper, cut him deeper. He never forgot the faves of anyone he had killed, however few they may have been, however many of them were titans.
He and Levi had bonded over that in the last few months, their inability to forget. Their ability to feel. How they refused to let themselves stop feeling.
But sometimes, Jean wished he could turn his emotions off.
He brushed these thoughts aside, not eager to delve into a spiral of despair on what seemed to be a happy day for Marley. He walked back inside, kicking the snow off of his boots and taking off his coat lest Levi yell at him.
It was then, he heard a noise. He walked into the dining space and saw Gabi there. She was opening various boxes with Falco. Joining the kids was a rather annoyed Levi, and a calm Reiner.
"Jean!" Connie waved, poking his head out from behind Reiner. "Come join!"
"Join what?" Jean asked, but walked closer, intrigued when he saw the boxes.
Gabi turned at that. "Well, Levi was telling me that you guys didn't really have a Christmas back on Paradis, so I figured we'd teach you all about it!" She seemed so eager, and Jean couldn't help the amused grin.
"Alright. Fine." Jean sat beside Levi and saw he was handed one of the boxes. Inside there was...flat looking cookies that seemed somewhat stale and...frosting? And other candies he couldn't Identify.
"Gingerbread houses." Falco explained. "They're fun, most people have them as a decoration. I mean...I guess you could eat it if you really wanted to..."
Jean gathered all the pieces and did his best to follow the instructions, not without sampling things, of course, finding them to be hard and relatively flavorless.
Levi also seemed to go relatively by the book for a time before daring to adventure off and adding little decorations with the frosting at Gabi's insistence. Connie hadn't seemed terribly interested in the instructions and had just thrown the pieces together with a lot of frosting and some dreams. Reiner's was a little crooked, but it added character. Gabi and Falco had worked on one together, and theirs looked admitably the best of the bunch.
"Reiner, help us put this on top of the fridge." Gabi said. Reiner rolled his eyes but done so, given he was the tallest other than Jean.
----
After a time, the kids returned with a tree.
"What the fuck is that?" Levi asked, his tone like a scolding mother. His arms were crossed and his eyes glaring.
"A Christmas tree!" Gabi beamed, able to brush off Levi's harsh tone. It never seemed to have affected her much.
"A fire Hazard more like. And a mess." Levi sighed, but relaxed a bit, limping over to help them get the tree up and into the stand which Gabi helped fix up.
"I also went out and got stuff to decorate it with." Gabi said, laying out various boxes.
"With what moeny?" Reiner asked, slightly scolding.
Gabi not to answer that, instead holding up a round red orb. "This is an ornament. It goes on the tree."
With that, the group set to decorate the tree, Reiner and Jean being uses to put the ornaments in higher places on the tree.
Finally, they had a tree, complete with lights, garland, candy canes, and ornaments. And a tree skirt to catch all the needles.
"And lastly, we need a star." Gabi said. Jean lifted her up and let her put the silver star on the tree before setting her down.
"What's the tree for? And those cookies Falco is setting out?" Connie asked.
"Santa of course. He brings all the presents and you leave the cookies out as a gift." Falco grinned.
Levi looked thoughtful but didn't say anything else.
Strangely Levi left the house after that for a while.
----
Finally, at nightfall, the others had gone to bed, and Gabi was up wrapping the presents she had bought. Levi watched her from the door frame before coming in and sitting on the ground. He kept his bad leg outstretched since it just didn't quite bend how it used to.
"What are you doing?" Levi asked in a soft tone, watching her.
"Wrapping presents of course. Normally people buy the gifts for eachother but...I dont know. Seemed like a lot to put on you guys." Gabi said in a soft voice, finally reminding Levi of just how young the girl was.
"Hmm. And what day exactly is this?" Levi asked, pulling the girl closer and helping her wrap by holding the paper down on the box.
"Christmas." Gabi said.
"Tch. You know what I meant." Levi said, amused at her regardless.
"The 25th. Why?" Gabi asked, tilting her head back against Levi's chest.
"I think that's my birthday...I don't really remember though..." Levi replied in a soft voice, folding the sides of the paper to the box as Gabi taped them.
"Why wouldn't you remember your own birthday?"
"I never much cared about it. My mother did when I was little...I barely remember any of that though...truth be told I don't even remember what she looked like anymore." Levi explained. "She died when I was 4."
"Oh? And your dad...?" Gabi asked, curious.
"Never knew him. It could have been anyone. My mother was a sex worker." Levi said, not bothering to sugarcoat things.
"Oh...do you remember anything about her?"
Levi searched his memory. "Very little. I remember she had a nice voice, she'd sing me lullabies. She also used to cut my hair for me...in this style. I remember every once in a while, she'd save up enough and buy some sweets, and we'd eat them together."
Gabi nods and falls silent. "Were you alone after that?"
Levi sighed. "Not entirely. My uncle found me. Took me in. He was...unique. Taught me a lot. Like how to say hello to people and how to hold a knife...how to stay alive in the underground where I was. He cruel man...made me do shitty things he didn't feel like doing himself. I wanted to hate him...now...I almost miss him." Levi said, setting the box aside and watching Gabi write Connie's name on it.
"How old are you then?" Gabi asked. "If it's your birthday and all."
Levi thought for a moment. "I think I'm 36, I lost track honestly. It didn't matter much. I couldn't count passed 10 or read for most of my life anyways. Erwin taught me those things when I got promoted in the scouts and ended up having to do paperwork. I must have sat in his office for hours writing with him and reading...."
Gabi turned and yawned, cuddling into Levi's chest.
"Tired brat?" Levi looked down at her, his arms wrapping around her.
"No..." Gabi said, holding back a yawn before walking over and handing Levi something small and wrapped.
"Hm?"
"For your birthday. It's important to celebrate that, too." Gabi explained.
Levi unwrapped the paper, doing his his best to be gentle with it. He eventually came across a leathery feeling and pulled the paper away, revealing a small black wallet.
"It's not much..." Gabi averted her gaze.
"It's enough." Levi said softly. "More than I've had in years."
Gabi smiled before yawning again.
Levi rolled his eyes and got up carefully, then picked her up in one arm in a bridal carry.
"Don't hurt yourself!" Gabi hissed scoldingly but also seemed to relax.
Levi carried the girl to the couch and laid her down, throwing a blanket over her. "Shut up and sleep. That...That Santa guy won't come if you're not asleep...brat."
Gabi giggled but eventually fell asleep.v
With that, Levi went to his own room and opened up the bags he had gotten at the store and set about wrapping, doing his best to copy the motions of Gabi. He also made sure to write "from santa" on them. He set them under the tree and ate a couple cookies and them went to sleep.
While he may have thought the whole thing was a little dumb, he was never one to deny a little bit of happiness.
Summery: After the rumbling, Reiner and Jean end up becoming parents. Enjoy this little blurb with a baby
Characters: Jean, Reiner, OC (Aurora)
TW: None
It was all relatively quiet. Too quiet for Reiner.
Why did the nightmares have to haunt him tonight of all nights? He sat up and rubbed his forehead with his palm before sliding out of bed and putting on his slippers. He sighed and glanced back at Jean, smiling softly at the sight of his husband still sleeping.
He left the bedroom and padded across the hall to the nursery. He cracked open the door, being as quiet as he could.
He admired the room. It was painted a gentle pastel yellow and decorated with simple little paintings Jean had added. The floor was a dark wood but had a plush white rug covering most of it. The room also was filled with various little toys and a rocking chair looking out at the window.
Reiner breathed in the smell. He never imagined he'd be here. Never let himself imagine it either. He never thought he'd make it this far, thinking he only had a couple more years before the curse would claim him or he'd be eaten.
But it never happened. They stopped it. They stopped the rumbling. No more curse. No more titans. And the world was in a place where everyone agreed not to repeat the recent horrors. He wasn't sure how long it would last, humanity was fickle in that way, but he hoped at least nothing would happen in his lifetime.
His ears focused on the little breaths coming from the crib. He walked over and smiled at the little face of Aurora, their adoptive baby girl. They had adopted her a couple of weeks ago.
Historia had written them, having heard they were thinking about adoption. Of course they hadn't cared for age or sex, they just wanted to be parents by then.
But in a selfish way...Reiner was glad they had a newborn they adopted. It felt more...parental in a way. To know that she would see them as her parents from the start. They had bounced around the idea of having more adoptions in the future, perhaps of an older child or even a teenager, but for now, they were content with Aurora.
He bent down and gently picked her up, causing the baby to give a confused coo and a squirm as she awoke.
"Shh. Don't want to wake mama." Reiner said softly. "He might kill me." Of course, they hadn't planned of referring to Jean as 'mama' but it had started as a joke but ended up sticking. Not that Jean seemed to mind.
Aurora cooed and yawned, cuddling into Reiner.
Reiner gave a small smile and walked to the rocking chair and sat in it, gently rocking them with his foot. He took a breath as the visions of the nightmare returned.
No. He wasn't a monster. Monsters don't get to hold babies like this....
He was broken out of his thoughts by another coo and he smiled.
"Heh. You can sense it already? Your old man's been through a lot. Mama too. One day, we'll tell you about the nightmares. Why they came, why they'll never go away..."
He took a calming breath and kissed her forehead. "But you make it all worth it, girlie. I'd do it all again if I still get to do this."
He watched her fall back asleep before he felt another presence. He looked up and gave a small smile to Jean.
"Couldn't sleep?" Jean asked in a soft voice, leaning against the doorframe with a gentle smile.
"Yeah... just the usual." Reiner sighed quietly.
Jean gave a pitying look before smiling and walking over, sitting on Reiners' lap to admire Aurora. He rested her head on Reiner's shoulder. He gently reached a hand out and stroked Aurora's cheek.
Yeah. Monsters don't get to do this. So therefore, Reiner couldn't be a monster, and the nightmares were wrong.
Cadet Jean was such a cute little shit, like no wonder nobody but Eren really took him seriously. I can just imagine Reiner looking at him with fondness and thinking "he's so cute when he's mad, I want to bend him over the table and put him in his place"
I imagine him saying that out loud and Bertholdt smacking him in the head. "He's fifteen!" Bert hisses, to which grumpy Reiner replies: "Well, he won't be fifteen forever...". Bert smacks him in the head again just to stay on the safe side.
It's actually an interesting topic to explore on its own – the fact that Reiner is slightly older and probably matures earlier than the other guys. He has the time to come to terms with his sexuality, but initially he's just confused and unsure of what is really happening. Caught between Krista and Jean, two polar opposites (as it seems), Reiner is looking at them and thinking almost frantically: "What the fuck is my type?? Small??".
Reiner definitely isn't affected by Jean's bratty behavior to such an extent as Eren. He might find it tiring at times, but usually he's just amused. Jean makes him laugh. And he is cute. We all know he suddenly becomes husband material in S4, but before that? He's the cutest boy in the entire cast.
Summery: It's been about a week since the rumbling. And nightmares a plenty. Still, maybe they can get through this. And two unexpected people bond.
TW: Nightmares, Minor implied PTSD, angst, mentions of alcoholism, probably ooc.
It was quiet in the house they had been given. Well, technically Levi had been given it, a thank you from Marley. Of course, all the scouts, minus Mikasa, who had vanished soon after Eren's defeat, were in the house. Quiet snores broke the silence, but it wasn't enough to quiet the racing thoughts in Reiner's head.
He sighed and rubbed his eyes, running his hand through his scruffy hair, pulling on it slightly. He let out a sigh and turned to his right, seeing Jean still asleep. He smiled softly. At least someone was getting some rest. He angrily rubbed his eyes, hoping to make himself sleepy again, but to no avail.
"That won't help," a dry voice said.
Reiner looked up to see Levi, who was perched on the bay on a window, sipping a cup of tea, looking outside.
"Captain...?" Reiner asked, mostly out of habit. "Why are you awake?"
"I've never slept." Levi shrugged, dismissing it as if if was nothing.
Reiner couldn't help but frown. "Never?"
"Never." Levi said, his voice firm and sharp, yet also softer in a way. "You think you're the only one in here that gets nightmares?"
"No. Of course not..." Reiner said. He couldn't recall how many times he had woken up because of one of them screaming. Usually it was his own. Armin a few times, Jean a few times, never Levi.
Now Reiner knew why the stoic man was always the first face he saw usually.
"You should sleep..." Reiner began slowly.
"Tch...."
A silence fell over the room for a time.
"You want tea?" Levi asked eventually, breaking the silence.
"Yeah..." Reiner responded, watching as Levi got off and tried to stand, but his knee gave out. Reiner quickly caught him and stabilized him.
"Tch....fucking knee..." Levi said through gritted teeth. He begrudgingly let Reiner hold him, using the taller man as a crutch. He could walk, just not gracefully and most certainly not unsupported. But his brain hadn't yet caught up with that information.
Reiner couldn't really imagine. Imagine how Levi's life changed practically overnight. Going from as mobile as can be, to wounded, to now...."a crippled old man" in Levi's words.
Levi made him some tea and handed it to Reiner and made himself one. They both sat the table and sipped the tea.
"What was it about?" Levi asked. "The nightmare?"
Reiner sighed. "One of the many times I had to kill people as the titan. Worse part is a can't place which time..."
Levi looked at him, his steel blue eyes cold but not judging. Just that forever stoic look. "You're not the only one to kill people here."
"I-" Reiner cut himself off as Levi held a hand up.
"Why do you think all the captains or the 'Veterans' as you brats called us, all shared a wing back when we had an HQ?" Levi asked. "It's not easy, leading. Erwin was terrible...knowing how many bodies he walked over everyday. Became a bit of a drunk by the end of it."
Reiner hadn't thought about that. He had assumed it was because of Rank, and maybe that played a role, but not the role he thought.
"I did some fucked up things too, brat. You're not the only monster in this room." Levi said.
"You never seemed like one to me..." Reiner said, staring into his tea, which was half full now.
"But I am. For fucks sake my uncle was Kenny the Ripper. A goddamn serial killer raised me." Levi said, chuckling by the end of it. "Never thought I'd miss the bastard..."
Reiner, of course, knew parts of Levi's past, the parts Marley Intel had gathered. Like his old comrades and feats, how the Survey corps pulled the man out of the underground and 7 years he had been with the Corps when Reiner joined.
"Try to sleep, brat." Levi said softly, finishing his tea and rining the cup out.
"You too..." Reiner said, getting up to do the same.
Levi sighed. "Fine. Now help me over there you fucking tree."
Reiner laughed and guided Levi to the sofa and got him laid down. He then went onto the floor beside Jean.
"You like him...don't you?" Levi asked softly, watching the interaction.
Reiner blushed.
Levi rolled his eyes. "If you're serious about it, he likes Lily flowers." He rolled over, his back facing Reiner.
Reiner glanced at Jean and brushed his hair from his face. Lilies? He wasn't going to question exactly how Levi knew that about Jean.
Summery: Reiner has a nightmare and seeks his family for comfort
Warnings: Mention of Marijuana use, Domestic fluff, slightly ooc probably. Proofread by me but please point out any spelling goofs.
Notes: Hey @fromriches-tosin told you I'd consider making my own blog. This is it. Just some domestic ReiJean. I haven't written in like a year so sorry if it's a little choppy haha.
╚══ ≪ °❈° ≫ ══╝
Reiner shot awake with a gasp, his breath coming out in raspy pants. His heart raced uncomfortably fast, making him put a hand over his chest in an attempt to calm it.
He closed his eyes and took breaths like Jean had taught him. Breathe for 10 seconds, hold for 5, exhale 15.
Eventually, his heart stopped racing, and he pushed himself to sit up, glancing over at the other side of the bed, smiling to himself seeing his husband, Jean, still asleep.
At least one of them was sleeping easy. Tonight at least.
Fuck. It was almost 10 years since the rumbling, and Reiner still had terrible nightmares. Both about the rumbling and before. Jean did, too, but not nearly as often. Especially these days.
Reiner ran his hand through his platinum blonde hair (he really should cut it). He carefully got out of bed, being sure not to jostle Jean too much.
He rubbed his eyes and walked down the familiar hallway of the house he and Jean had built (litterally). He went into the kitchen and got out a cup. He put some water in the kettle to boil and searched the cabinets for the "sleepy" tea. It was a blend sold at Levi's teashop that Jean had designed. It was a blend of lavender, Hibiscus, Rose Petal, and Chamomile. Reiner hoped it would get him sleepy again, or at least relaxed.
Until recently, Reiner would maybe smoke a joint or two to calm down, but had been trying to steer away from that when they adopted their daughter, Aurora, 3 years ago. And even more so now since they had talked about potentially adopting another.
Adoption hadn't been on their plans originally, Reiner hadn't been entirely sure he was cut out, or deserved, to be a father (or that the kids would even like him, especially if/when they found out what he used to be.) But Historia had written them, saying there were a number of kids on Paradis left orphaned, both by the rumbling and now the Jeagurist uprising. They hadn't cared about ages of course, but Aurora had been given to them when she was practically a newborn.
Jean had taken to parenthood easily enough. Of course, unlike Reiner, he had come from a mostly-functional home with a mom who loved him (perhaps a little too much at times). Reiner's mom had certainly...been around, and that was all the credit he was willing to give her.
The scream of the kettle cut his thoughts off. He got it off the burner and poured it into the cup and put the tea bag into the cup and bounced it a few times, and left it to steep for a couple minutes.
His mind wandered back to the nightmare. It had been a memory, but the worst part is that it was one Reiner couldn't place. It was just a time he had killed, and sadly that didn't narrow it down much.
He closed his eyes and willed the thought away before he spiraled into a panic attack and woke up Jean. He took the teacup into his hands and let the warmth seep through his hands before taking a slow sip.
He took another series of breaths between sips.
Eventually, he felt the tea work its magic and his nerves relaxed. He rinsed the cup and put it back. He felt arms wrap around him.
"Nightmare?" Jean's voice, raspy and slightly slurred, said softly, kissing the area where Reiner's neck and shoulder met.
"Yeah..." Reiner said softly, relaxing in the embrace. He loved Jean's voice after he just woke up...
"Been a while since you've had one," Jean said softly, his head resting on his shoulder.
Reiner just nodded and chuckled as Jean pressed slow, lazy kisses along his shoulder, neck, and jaw.
"Care to talk about it?" Jean asked.
"No..." Reiner sighed.
"Okay." Jean said softly. "Come back to bed when you're ready..."
"I will." Reiner said, tempted to tease Jean but ultimately chose not to. He leaned down and kissed Jean briefly before the other went back to their room.
Reiner sighed and quietly mourned the loss of Jean's warmth.
He began to track back to his room but paused, stopping at another door instead. He cracked it open quietly and peeked inside, a small smile crossing his face.
He carefully walked in, dodging the chaotic toys on the floor (a chore for tomorrow, he noted). He made his way to the little bed that had a little head poking out.
He sat on the edge of the bed and adjusted the blanket, white with bright polka-dots, up to Aurora's chin and re-tucked her in. He smiled at the stuffed bear (gifted by Connie for her 2md birthday) she held loosely in her arm. He brushed some hair from her face, making the girl squirm.
"Daddy...?" Aurora asked in a soft voice.
"Shh. Go back to sleep, baby, " Reiner whispered softly.
Aurora looked at him with gentle brown eyes.
"Daddy was just checking on you. It's okay." Reiner said softly again. He studied her, seeing her blonde hair was turning more brown as she got older.
She nodded and squirmed, burying her face back into her pillow. "Night night Daddy..."
Reiner smiled softly and kissed her temple, getting back out of her bed, slightly awkwardly since it was a weird angle for the tall man.
He walked to her door and turned back to her. "Night, Baby girl. Love you" He said softly and closed the door behind him.
"Love you more..." He heard her little voice say, and Reiner just smiled again.
He walked to his and Jean's room and got back into bed. He wrapped an arm around Jean and pulled him closer, his thumb running long the side of Jean's arm.
He nuzzled closer and breathed in Jean's comforting scent, a mixture of Pine, cologne, Tea and a faint bit of cleaning chemcials (the last two courtesy of Levi and Jean working at his tea shop).
He kissed his cheek and adjusted his hold as he settled back into bed.
While the nightmares would never truly go away...he hoped that moments like these didn't either.
