Prelude to Walter. Part 1: Pages 5 - 8

Before I started drawing the prologue, I had finished writing Issue 1. In a burst of inspiration, I switched to writing an internal monologue for Walter, which tied some events that happen later in the story. Being a page long, it was the perfect opportunity to practice my writing skills and experiment with the artistic direction I wanted for the comic. 🔸'Marigold Melancholy'🔸 A portrait of Agnès (she's of French ancestry, hence the spelling) to match the one I made for Walter from the cover of his prelude. Did you know? In the Victorian era, the yellow marigold was a symbol of grief, despair and mourning, a flower of remembrance. It may or may not be foreshadowing for future story events... ;)

Some Panels before and after! Layouts and "pencils" are done digitally, it saves time when it comes to figuring out perspective and adding grids. I then do the inking traditionally and scan the pages! Clip Studio Paint is super helpful with screen tones, so it's definitely part of the workflow! This process may seem a little unconventional, but I find it works best for me :) - Main Blog -

Let's get the ball rolling, shall we? Meet Walter & Agnes, the prominent characters of the comic I'm working on. Walter comes from the city, he's a quiet and intelligent youth, curious and thirsty for knowledge, following his late's father footsteps as a ghost hunter. Agnes is soft-spoken and elegant, kind and reserved, with a deep sense of duty. She may seem the perfect woman of high society, but coming from a family of hunters, she bares secrets of her own...
