This type of container was held in the hand and served as either a perfume burner or hand warmer. Inside is a small brass cup that held a small quantity of smouldering charcoal. The cup is suspended within a set of gimbals which kept it level and prevented the burning charcoal from touching the surface of the container. Sometimes incense was added to the charcoal to perfume the air.
This brass piece was made in Venice and has the elaborate decoration associated with the city that was influenced by trade with the Muslim empires that bordered the Mediterranean. Unlike Northern European brass work, Venetian brass wares were almost always engraved and often inlaid with silver wire. This technique was known as damascening and was a speciality of Saracen artists. In this case, the maker has further defined the pattern by adding inlaid black lacquer.
The decoration on Venetian brass wares was extensive, often covering the entire surface of an object. It sometimes featured the arabesque pattern, based on a stylised plant with a winding stem. Contemporary Italian artists studied and copied the arabesque and by about the 1550s it was beginning to influence designers and craftsmen all over Europe.
Place of Origin Venice, Italy
Physical Description Spherical, the whole surface is engraved with bands of conventional foliage enclosing panels of knotwork. The incised lines are filled with a black lacquer; the intervening surfaces are damascened with silver. The two halves fit together by means of a a bayonet joint. There is a cast bronze container for bearing incense or perfume, suspended on gimbals inside. Date 1400-1500
Materials and Techniques Brass, pierced, engraved and silver damascened with black lacquer infill. Perfume burner, brass engraved with foliage and knotwork, and filled with a black lacquer in the incised lines, Venetian, late 15th century.
whereâs my grandparent who will peacefully die of old age and give me a note only to open when i need it, revealing that they have gifted me their old farm that i can use to escape to if i ever need a reprieve from capitalist corporate life, in an idyllic town with lovely villagers and also a wizard

How to Feign Your Life is Together
Have a signature accessory, clothing article, make up look, or hair style.
Have a fragrance. Make your hair scents and lotions match your perfume.
Itâs okay to dine alone. Bring a book or people watch.
Love your hair. Research the best brands for your hair type and use masks weekly.
Your nails donât need to be fancy, but keep them maintained.
Stay worldly. Know works of art, artists, designers, films, books, politicians. Spend your lunch break reading the paper or a magazine.
Crying is not a weapon. Itâs okay to feel your emotions, but never use them as an excuse to avoid your problems.
Jealousy is boring. Love and appreciate others. If you canât love them, forget them.
Boost others. Flatter others, but donât deprecate yourself in the process.
Donât sulk. Donât let the whole world know your problems. If you donât want someone to give their opinion, donât share your situation.
Your life is between you and the universe. Donât post your personal matters for others to see.
Donât emotionally blackmail others. They hurt you? Let them know and then move on. Itâs between the two of you and not the world.
Cook dinner. Cook dinner and listen to music, the radio, or a podcast.
Treat yourself to candles and flowers. Be your own cheerleader.
Take naps. Take a cat nap on a Sunday afternoon with the blinds open and the fan on high.
Drink your water, eat your vegetables. Take care of your body.
Never have time to take off your jewelry before bed, but always have time to take off your makeup. Your nighttime skin regime is important.
Mystery is beautiful. You donât need to reveal much of or about yourself.
Never appear other than as you are. Donât lie about yourself. Embrace who you are at your core.

Handling arguments and difficult interactions can be tricky if you're autistic. From rude comments to arguments to creepy people, this wikiHow will help you handle a number of upsetting social situations. Recognize the importance of...
WikiHowâs first big assertiveness article for autistics!
I wanted to share a wikiHow article for autistics that I worked on and am super proud of!
I know that handling conflict can be super hard for us, and it can be stressful and messy and overwhelming. If youâre anything like me, you end up being a doormat and crying a lot later. A lot of autistics have trouble dealing with angry or hostile people, especially if we have co-occurring conditions like a panic disorder or complex PTSD. And, because some non-autistics seem to spontaneously lose all manners and human decency around autistic people, we often have to put up with more jerks than average. Which stinks, big time.
I also know that a lot of us are really, really good at picking up new social skills by reading about them.
So, this new article is full of assertiveness and boundary-setting strategies designed to help with difficult situations. Theyâre good skills that even many non-autistics are unaware of. Consider this a secret how-to manual of hacking social situations to make people a little less disagreeable.
This article wonât stop people from being awful sometimes. (Iâd tell you if I knew how.) But this will help empower you to handle the awful people a little more easily, and handle difficult situations with more confidence. Iâm sharing it for anyone who might find it useful!
(Non-autistics should feel free to reblog, and also read and learn from if they want, because these social skills arenât autistics-only.)
Reblogging from my main! Social skills that may make your life a little easier, even when people are difficult.

your healing is going to take place when you get absolutely sick to your stomach of being in the same emotional graveyard that you built for yourself.
