i lack the emotional intelligence and/or the literary talent to describe how reading slipstream has made me feel. it’s completely gut wrenching and heart swelling and i’ve been on these verge of tears (with a few escaping) for all 50k+ words so far for some reason? but i am hooked like a drug on these character psyches you have created in a way that makes my chest like actually hurt so bad i have to take reading breaks for fear of what it’ll feel like to push thru.

listen I promise you you do not need any kind of literary qualification or whatever you think is required to come on here and talk to me 🫶 there is absolutely 0 gatekeeping or entry bar and I mean that completely. getting to this question balls late because it is who I am as a person but I have to say how much I love the phrase “art to correlate with reality” like I’m obsessed w it as a concept
I do have a few beats I want to hit with the series, most of it to do w the sacrifices required to make it as a champion and the faustian bargain bin you deal with every day when it comes to who you love and who you are and what you’re allowed when the whole world is watching. it’s really just about growing into your own story (obviously) and growing out of it (even more obviously) and leaving parts of you behind. aaand ofc the goal is to show what it’s like to fall for someone you don’t understand but are drawn to in a way that feels as inevitable as it is inexplicable, until you both have to face the fact that somehow this inevitable, inexplicable thing may be exactly what you need in order to feel truly seen and not just capable of love but actually worthy of it (the carcar classic as far as I’m concerned)
so I’d say (loosely) the plan takes up all of that at different pulse points in the season and asks the endgame question, yk, is it worth risking it all to live honestly no matter how vulnerable it makes you or better to go down in history as a winner w/ your heart locked up shut
Slipstream is so awesome dude. Every chapter I read unlocks a new version of carcar and landoscar. I just hope you give them a happy ending because Osc deserves that

I already know I don’t want there to be a bleak ending, primarily because I don’t believe in hopelessness as a literary device. that being said this story is 100% not OSHA-certified for the romance genre, so whatever we find at the end will likely be: (1) focused on oscar’s arc through the 2025 season, because that’s the been the main series beat since day 1 and (2) either them wiling to figure it out together or figure it out apart, but probably not happily ever after in the classical sense (I’ve been informed it’s called #HEA by a few readers and never felt more like a 50 year old who can’t use tiktok)

gifts of air, this one was a hit or miss w/ the crowd I think but v dear to my heart bc it covers every narrative angle that will show up in slipstream & is p much the nut graf of what I want to say with this story

I think the emotional infidelity bit can best be explained (idr who said this exactly and if it was in comments or asks) as smth to the effect of "lando and carlos always being there for each other in ways oscar (feels like) will never be for them" (½ because of his past with lando making backsliding dangerous) (² because of his secret affair with carlos). so all he's left with is playing the chicken game of repression while those two are so canonically best friends on main that the williams admin hard tweets carlando ❤️❤️❤️ and logs off
so it's basically like you'll fuck me but you won't tell me what keeps you up at night meanwhile he gets to have all of you etc. a classic of the genre

I know I can’t keep the buck running until abu dhabi whatsoever. even if I pared down the interiority of the narrative (which to me is the best part in case you couldn’t tell....im a sick dog for that headspace) & kept it moving as fast as the first fic, I still wouldn’t find enough resources to bank 5k for 20 races... that’s 100k... i have a family i am a mother or whatever that glee clip says
at the same time, there’s already a bunch of races I want to skip bc I can’t be arsed with the recall or bc I’m biased against them Personally. so after jeddah (already in-drafting) it will have to go 1 of 2 ways: i either start skipping races and grouping them together if the Moments and Rituals were particularly intricate that week, or I keep the format race by race but end the series earlier in the season (so the closure won’t be in abu dhabi but whenever the cookie crumbles and I finally snap). unforch for all of us, until I run out of things to say I won’t be able to tell you which is gonna be. so far the spirit still Moves me but the spirit also pisses me off so we’ll have to see

see silverstone is also a great addition because I was actually at silverstone and not to out myself as a Sports Fan first and an RPF experimental artist second but. I promise you when my mates and I saw the gates open at vale and had to fuckin leg it for the podium ceremony, lando and oscar were the LAST thing on my mind..... I feel so guilty to abandon my children but you have to understand how everyone was riding for hulkenberg out there it was genuinely historical. if you asked me who oscar is at that moment I’d have told you he’s a character in my story. anyway I didn’t lock in in time so didn’t see them do much on the podium they just looked MAD
