For those who'd be interested, I've been running a side blog for a while. It's related to a (gigantic) story I've been writing about comic-books Lucifer falling for Beethoven. Yes. Weird. But my last 200K story was about Louis XIII falling for Richelieu so you shouldn't be surprised.

The quote you are referring to comes from Beethoven's famous letter to his pupil and assistant, Ferdinand Ries, dated April 1802. Beethoven scoled Ries for not turning to him for help with financial struggles, writing: "Am I not your true friend? Why did you conceal your necessities from me? No friend of mine shall ever be in need, so long as I have anything myself."

■ The Situation: Ries arrived in Vienna in 1801 and was struggling financially Beethoven, remembering that Ries's father had supported him during his own family's financial hardships in Bonn, was deeply offended that Ries hadn't asked him for help sooner.

■ The Action: In the letter, Beethoven enclosed a note for his patron. Count Browne, demanding an advance of 50 ducats for Ries so that he could purchase appropriate clothes. He also promised that if the Count refused, Ries could come directly to him.

■ The Relationship: Beethoven and Ries shared a famously intense, complex master-pupil relationship that lasted until Beethoven's death. Despite Beethoven's gruff exterior and demanding temper, he was profoundly loyal to Ries and always made sure he was supported..

One of the finest and most beloved Watsons ever to grace the screen has passed away. David Burke was 91 years old, just shy of his 92nd birthday, and he is survived by his wife Anna Calder-Marshall and his son Tom Burke.

By all accounts, he was a gentleman and a wonderful human being. He could have stayed on to play Watson much longer, which would have made many of us very happy, but he chose to leave the show to be nearer to his family, especially since Tom was very young at the time.

His was not the first intelligent and competent Watson, but this version marked a turning point in mainstream depictions, from comedic sidekick to a hero in his own right.

RIP, dear sir. You will be missed. Thank you for everything.
