HAPPY VALENTINES DAY !!
For now.
(today, at least)
(i think that this should become a regular thing)
Happy Valentine’s Day! i hope this is great enough to match your sin, my lovely mother
(Happy Valentines Day you wonderful meme!)
Papyrus runs into @fri-sk at the ball!
Out of all the places he expected Frisk to be, it wasn’t the courtyard. Most of the party-goers were having a ball ( nyeheh ) in the ballroom or having refreshments at the unprepared food bar. Papyrus ran up to them and waved excitedly ( albeit a bit too excitedly. but he was excited, so you couldn’t really blame him. )
❝ WOWIE! I DIDN’T EXPECT TO RUN INTO YOU HERE, HUMAN. WHY AREN’T YOU DANCING WITH EVERYBODY ELSE? ❞
The wide expanse of space and general lack of very many people had been what had drawn the emissary out of the main space of the ballroom half an hour earlier, the still night air a welcome change from the overbearing presence of the crowd and blaring music. Having had their fill of encounters and enough small aches from accidental bumps; pushes and shouldering, they’d found themselves perched at a stone bench further out within the courtyard. Hands clasped in their lap and contentedly lost in their own headspace was how they’d been found.
Blinking once, twice to refocus their gaze before offering a greeting smile to the approaching skeleton; they lifted a hand to wave back that fell back to their side upon him reaching where they now sat.
“It’s a little more packed than I expected, so I took a break.”
“Why aren’t you inside dancing?”

‘ ‘ Is this a different timeline…? ‘ ‘
Frisk whispered to themselves, the frozen grass of Snowdin susurrating beneath the child’s feet as they explored the familiar, frosted scenery. From the treeline, they watched, another Frisk wandering the streets of Snowdin, stopping to observe the silhouette between the trees. Small branches crunched underneath their feet as they ducked for cover, hoping not to be spotted by their double in this new timeline, but to no avail. The ruckus of twigs cracking only gave the seven year old child away.
‘ ‘ Err… ‘ ‘
‘ ‘ Hello… Me? ‘ ‘
When Frisk thought of death —not the temporary ends brought about at the hand of another that could placated by resets—it always came wth an idea of finality or permanence. Perhaps that would be why the world’s standstill the same time the knife had come down atop Frisk’s chest and the way their reset option had been decimated, only to wake up in the same place they’d been slain with dust scattered about the throne room had been so shattering. Or at least, it had been for the first year.
The days that came throughout the years that followed without the presence of another were easier.
The nights, not so much.
So of course, upon waking up in a seemingly frozen underground where wisps of grass remained unperturbed by wind or footsteps other than their own and the only other voices came from the echo flowers, the last thing they’d expect would be the sound of twigs breaking the spell of silence. Whipping around and fingers clenching into the red scarf wrapped tightly about their neck, the young adult froze at the sight of a far too familiar child; one hand covering their mouth in shock and the other shakily but quickly began to sign.
‘Hello,’ A pause. ‘How did you get here?’

“EXCELLENT!!”
Papyrus beamed when they accepted (not that he had ever doubted that they would decline his offer) and took Frisk’s hand in his own. He led the way onto the dance floor and, once he had found some space for them, bowed over-dramatically and swept Frisk into the dance.
Allowing themselves to be lead out onto the ballroom floor where the music was loudest, the human squeezed the hand holding theirs just a tad. They returned the bow with a toothy smile despite their gradually building nerves. ‘Don’t worry about being bumped. Don’t worry about someone accidentally stepping on you or elbowing you in the si—’
Frisk yelped.
The sound of surprise quickly transitioned into a delighted laugh when the dance began, the emissary swept up into the steps of both the movements and music with a larger and much more genuine grin.
@fri-sk. Muffet’s love ball.
“ W-Wait – What – Where are you dragging me?! ”
“You’ve been hiding out this entire time when there’s a whole other side of the ballroom to see. Where do you think I‘m dragging you?”

Toriel’s eyes followed the gesture, taking note of the “dates” that Frisk was referring to. Well, so long as they kept everyone out of trouble, there didn’t seem to be a problem with this. At the very least, it meant Frisk had found some friends outside of their usual crowd. (At least, Toriel HOPED.)
Her thoughts were hijacked from that train of thought by Frisk’s question. Toriel seemed to BEAM, and nodded towards the skeleton wandering away for some fresh air. “Sans, actually. Although… not the same one from my timeline, it would appear.”
Fingers hooking into their suspenders and a content look clear as day upon their face, Frisk seemed appeased by the idea of simply watching the ongoings of the ball. But following their guardian’s gaze and allowing their own to come to a halt upon the skeleton that seemed to be making an exit, they turned back only to give their parent a ridiculous grin and a supportive thumbs up.
Pausing in mid-rooting of the party goers, the young adult shifted upon hearing the transition from one song to another. Making a small gesture towards the dance floor with a small smile. “Then could I steal a dance with the best mom and the bell of the ball before he gets back?”

Toriel CLEARLY did not believe her adopted child.
It wasn’t just because she had walked in in the middle of its construction (and Frisk hadn’t been about to test it; they were on the wrong side of the door for that), but because she KNEW them. She knew what sort of trouble Frisk could get into. She had even been there to get them out of trouble a few times.
Still, the lesson had been taught, whether by her or by the bucket still currently perched on top of the young adult’s head. So Tori simply SIGHED, shaking her head, and tossed Frisk a hand towel. It would do no good to try to discipline them now.
“Clean up your mess, Frisk. I need to make dinner soon.”
A nod of confirmation was given after Frisk had caught the towel. The pail was removed from their head and placed a ways off from the water a moment later, the human’s dorkishly pleased grin still plastered clear as day on their face as the wet towel was dropped into the bucket and their gaze had flicked over the newly dried flooring before the water carrier was plucked up to be put away.
“I’ll be back in a bit.”
‘A bit’ turned out to be twenty minutes.
When the young emissary did return back to the kitchen, a dry-off towel was strung around their neck and their hair was damp; clad in a change of clothes more akin to pajamas to replace the previous ones caught up in their backfired pranking while bare feet lead them back over to their parent. Fingers wringing into the towel as they stopped near a counter, the young adult thoughtfully glanced around before finally speaking up; a hopeful expression flitting across their face.
“Can I help?”

“You look absolutely lovely, my child. Who is the lucky individual to accompany you tonight?”
“Thanks Mom,” Frisk beamed quietly under the appraisal, looking away only to point out the small child and flower roaming about the ball grounds; thankfully not having lost track of them yet. “I brought a friend.”

The Ball! || fri-sk
@fri-sk liked for a Muffet’s Love Ball starter.
“MAY I HAVE THIS DANCE, FRISK~?” Papyrus asked a very sophisticated tone, but knowing him, his dancing style was probably going to be far less dignified.
Sparing a glance over at the sound of a familiar voice and then upwards, it was with a ridiculous grin and a nod that they took the skeleton’s hand and gestured towards the dance floor.
Height and risk of being stepped on by strangers be darned. They were going to have fun while they were here!
“Lead the way?”
The skeleton glanced over at the sound of their voice, humming thoughtfully as he moved to take another sip of his ketchup. “I don’t know.” Was what Sans had decided to answer them with, observing the crowd with an attentive gaze. “I haven’t touched the stuff.” No doubt it was bound to get spiked at one point or another- call him a pessimist, but perhaps bringing his own drinks had been for more than the sake of simple convenience… “You have my word that I won’t try pulling any pranks tonight, at least.” Well, as far as the refreshments were concerned, anyways.
“What’re you doing hanging around with me, kiddo?” Sans decided to ask after a few moments of silence, shooting them a curious look. “The party is that way- or were you just afraid I would end up feeling bonely over here by myself?”
While an ‘I don’t know’ wasn’t exactly a yes to the possibility of alcohol, it wasn’t a no either. Rather than risking the chance of inebriation and future headaches, they remained perched in their spot along the wall with an occasional glance out and over the mass of bodies moving about.
"You’re better than I am,” They shifted, hand lifting to wave tentatively at someone they believed they knew before the other had disappeared amongst the sea of people once more. Oh well. “—wondering how long it’ll take Mom to realize who it was that set-up water pails in the other halls for couples trying to sneak off, actually.”
Fingers hooking into their suspenders, Frisk’s gaze flicked back to the skeleton upon being addressed; brows lifting just a bit before they offered a shrug and a sheepish grin.
“I thought it’d be better to stick around a friend rather than skullking around and getting squished or pinched. Hopefully me sticking around isn’t too” A pause as they seemed to search for the right word. “...rattling?”
Many people operated under theassumption that Sans was an extrovert- which, to an extent, was actually quite true. He felt at home in a crowd- it was where he wascomfortable, occupied. There were, however, certain circumstances under which the skeleton found himself… Hesitating, whether it be due to nerves, uncertainty or something else entirely.
This. This was one of those situations. On the bright side, being a wallflower wasn’t too bad- well, so long as one was a masochist, anyways. Sans, unfortunately, was not.
… At least he brought his own bottle of ketchup.
Attempting to travel through the more populated masses of both human and monster bodies alike close to the entryway had been a battle for the emissary. Their feet had been stepped on; and they’d been ribbed and bumped into so many times that infinity seemed like far too small a number to calculate the numeral for it. Achy, frazzled by the crowd and under the suspicion that someone had attempted to snip off a chunk of their hair while weaving past the front door, Frisk practically clung to the wall upon finally reaching it.
Finally, safety.
With a slow inhale to savor the freedom and looking fairly relieved at the general lack of numbers further inside of the mansion, the human glanced over at a familiar face before finally seeming to find their voice.
“Is the punch safe to drink?”
* Before things get a little too hectic, Frisk snaps a picture with their lovely ball partners and hopes for the best!
