( ☼*°*. ) → distance had softened her recollection of friedrich ─ the boy he had been and the man he’d grown into had been distant memories that were only brought forward from the deepest corners of her mind whenever she thought of anton. she had forgotten the bright b u r n of his gaze, ever blaming and unfaltering, a whisper of an accusation never said but constantly felt, weighing down upon her neck. it was immediate, the lowering of a dark cloud atop her head, guilt twisting at her belly and filling her mouth with something sour. instinct would have her doubt the sincerity of his words, echoes of her twin tickling at her lips, begging to be formed into something vicious and biting in response.
( but hadn’t she promised, years ago, to be b e t t e r? did promises still matter, when they were made to the dead? )
“are you, truly?” it was not poison that coated her words but something just short of sounding surprised ─ empty tone lifted by questioning end. fingers soothe the f u r r o w e d brow of her child, thumbing absent-minded circles onto soft cheek as she considered his words. “i had assumed you thought me deserving of all ill-fortune.” she could not find it in herself to be bitter, smile mocking and exhausted in one curl of the lip. “where else should i be, friedrich? my family is here ─ franz and anton. y o u.”
there was ALWAYS a bit of franz reflected from her, she was HIM and he was HER. they were one side of the other. it was something friedrich always told himself, and maximillian would say that ‘that is just as much them as it is us. my brother.’ AND YET as anneliese turned towards him after so long of being parted, he could see the golden coat rubbed off from her skin, revealing a DULL color he had never seen before on her. something dark lurking. something so very sad peeking. if it weren’t for the lack of HEART on friedrich’s part –– - and especially for her –– - he would had felt SORRY.
“you ASKED as if i do not know how death of a loved one feels. of a spouse as well,” he raised an eyebrow. up high. a mother. a brother. a wife. a daughter taken from this world way too soon. before she could even took her first breathe of air. FROST BLUES went and took a glance at the babe in her arms. “at least you’ve got something to hold on to,” family. friedrich almost LAUGHED at that. you. anneliese had said. “but have you EVER seen me as a brother, dear sister? it was always you and franz and maximilian and i. i’ve long since accepted torturing us was just a favorite past time of yours. however, it is not with that intent i said those words. why would you come here to a PLACE that had taken so many lives. you should’ve stayed in portugal with your baby, keep it away from death’s arms.” how could anneliese even brought her baby to a place such as this, where her husband had fallen. friedrich couldn’t understand but had given up seeking to understand how the golden children of germany thought since a L O N G time ago.
