No one could ever convince me that Koby is on the side of the world government. He’s barely on the side of the Marines as they are now.

He had a childish dream of what the Navy was supposed to be like as a kid. People that help those in need and fight for innocent civilians that are attacked and raided by pirates

he realised pretty quickly that the Navy isn’t always like that and that the system has a lot of flaws but instead of giving up on his dream and trying to take the system down from the outside he decides to become strong enough to change it from the inside. He tries to free Zoro even tho he knows he could be killed for it, he safes Helmeppos life even tho he knows he could die or get thrown out of the marines because of it, he steps in front of Akainu to stop the war knowing he is going to kill him but he’d rather die than let innocent people loose their lives and give up his version of what the navy is supposed to be like, an institution that protects life!

Every time his actions in the navy are described we hear he saved the lives of civilians.

Everything he stands for goes directly against the world government. In no world would the guy who would sacrifice himself to safe someone support people calling humans insects and disposable. In no world would someone who risked his life to free slaves support a system that is built on the exploitation of people.

We never see him compromise his standpoint once during the entire anime since he met Luffy.

His goal is to be a Navy admiral and while I do think that he’d be strong enough to achieve that he would never accept a position where he actively has to defend slavery, help with something like a buster call and basically become a government lap dog. But he’d also never give up on his dream.

So the only conclusion to this dilemma is that he’s closer to the revolutionaries than he might think and the only way for him to achieve his goal without going back on his morales would be to take down the world government and the existence of the celestial dragons as “gods”.

Something Garp could never do and the reason he never got to the point of being an admiral but I’m convinced he wanted someone to surpass him and change the Navy for the better and saw that person in Koby

Bonus: The narrative that the Marines aren’t the main problem but the ones controlling them and that the real problem is the government has been stated a few times now (especially in context of the revolutionary army) and I strongly believe Koby was part of what they ment by that

there is a reason why Koby and Sabo are paralleled more and more

It’s kinda crazy to me that people always make Luffy out to be this complete braindead moron just because he doesn’t know “basic things that everyone should know”

Genuinely how was he supposed to learn some things? He never went to school because the best the adults in his life could do was leave him in a forest to fight against bears.

He knows he isn’t academically smart and that he also just isn’t interested in certain things so he got himself a crew that perfectly levels out his weaknesses which I’d argue is pretty smart

So you’re telling me Koby saved Hibari’s life on the battlefield but she lost her teddy bear charm that she had since childhood there so he does the only correct thing and goes back there again the next day (on the battlefield!!) just to look for it gets injured really bad but finds it anyway??
