Prof!au White day 2k19 Drabble
Yay! Here is the one for the Professor!au, I hope you enjoy it! Do with this as youâd like, as always. Thanks a lot for joining in on my Valentineâs day fun this year! I had a lot of fun with em!
In Komuiâs office, there was a box sitting on top of the clutter that covered his desk. There was a card attached to the box that simply read: âHappy White Day, Komui. Meet me later for the rest of this message.â
Inside of the box was a wooden clock that could be hung on a wall. The numbers on the clock were replaced with the elements in atomic number order (ie Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, etc). As a teacher who teaches Chemistry, such a clock is fitting, is it not? That is why Shugarl chose to gift it to Komui.
As Shugarl had come in the moments the doors to the building were unlocked, her was able to make his way to the offices to drop off the first part of Komuiâs gift without anyone noticing him. An early morning surprise was always nice to be greeted by, anyways.
Throughout the day, the two had very conflicting schedules, so it was going to be hard to find the time to meet with one another. It wasnât like Shugarl was willing to walk to all his classes with the other gifts on hand. The gifts were relatively fragile if mishandled, and he didnât want them to break. Saying that heâd be upset if they were broken was an understatement. He worked very hard on them, and heâd loathe seeing them get damaged.
In fact, they were carefully stowed away in his office, locked away in his desk.
It seemed that they were only going to be able to find the time to talk after theyâd both finished their classes for the day, which would be later in the afternoon. It wasnât uncommon for the two of them to arrange a meeting after their classes, so no one would find this confusing if either of them said they had prior engagements to attend to after their classes.
Sometimes theyâd go have dinner together, or theyâd stop by a cafĂ© to chat. There were also moments theyâd drop by a mall to pick out gifts after classes.
When you are his only friend, you had the âluxuryâ of being Shugarlâs âGo-toâ man when he wanted human companionship to do anything after classes or on the weekends. Whether or not Komui truly felt it was a luxury is anyoneâs guess, but Shugarl would like to guess that the other enjoyed their little outings together.
Time passed and Komui soon came to visit Shugarl in his office. âKomui,â came his simple greeting, as always. He reached into the drawer of his desk and pulled out two items. One was a canister of white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, and the other was a box covered by a cloth.
âThese are cookies that Iâve baked, I hope they will suit your tastes. They are white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.â Since both the chocolate and the nuts were white in color, it was harder to tell which was which at first. He personally enjoyed the surprise factor of such cookies. You either got a soft bite or a crunchy one.
Shugarl handed Komui the canister of cookies first before he lifted the cloth off the box to reveal a glass box protecting a white European-style dragon. The dragon was roughly the same size as oneâs hand, and it was easy to tell that Shugarl was the most excited about this gift due to the extremely proud expression on his face. âThis is an origami dragon Iâve designed and folded. Itâs holding a miniature beaker under its claws.â Shugarl explained, pointing out the miniature beaker.
The dragon was white in color, to fit the âWhite dayâ name. âYou can use math programs to help design origami, and so I designed this dragon with it. It took quite a while for me to come up with the design. I can certainly see why it takes masters such a long time to make designs of their own.â
The art of paper folding was very mathematical in nature, and so Shugarl found a lot of interest in it. He first started out at an amateur level, but he started progressing to higher levels of difficulty as he got the hang of it. Following instructions of expert level folding came to be after years of folding.
While he may not have much of a talent in most arts, there were a few that he excelled in, such as origami and baking. He surprisingly had a talent in drawing, but he would assert this was also due in part of his interest in mathematics. Many things in nature were geometrical, and because of this, he was able to draw things like roses, shells, and butterflies with relative ease.
Things that required more of a stylistic or delicate touch was beyond him. Sewing? Ponsol could attest that his brother sucked at it. Knitting? Pass. Crochet? He couldnât do that either. Painting? He claimed he didnât have the âpatienceâ for it. Pottery? For some reason, nothing would turn out right, most things exploding in the kiln.
Sketching with pencil was fine because of the marvelous âeraserâ tool that could fix his mistakes. No such thing existed in knitting, crochet, painting, pottery, etc. It was probably this fact that Shugarl lacked talent in those areas. Origami and baking required very specific steps that one had to follow, and you didnât have to worry about style. (He was not good at picking out colors)
âThank you for being a good friend towards me, Komui. These gifts are given to you with all my good will.â He worked very hard this year for White day and he was hoping that Komui would appreciate all the time and effort that went into the gifts this year. He truly appreciated the watch he was gifted last month, and so he did his best to find the best gifts to give in return this month.Â
The first thing he noticed upon entering his office was the box. It was hard to miss being placed as it were on the already staggering mountain of papers. Next, his eyes were drawn to the card and he immediately made a beeline for it as it was likely to be the quickest way to satisfy his curiosity.
Komui lifted the note and eagerly began scanning the contents, his eyes first widening with surprise before taking on a gleam of curiosity. The date had completely slipped his mind. Not to say that he would have expected to receive a gift from his friend even if he had remembered. Still, it was a pleasant surprise.
I wonder whatâs in the box...
Taking a seat at his desk, the scientist gingerly took the box in hand and opened it to remove what was concealed inside. His breath caught as he carefully removed the intricate clock and a pleased grin appeared as he appreciatively took in the features.
He loved it. He absolutely loved it.Â
Slowly, gently, his fingers traced the markings as he pondered on where would be the best place to hang it. Somewhere that he would be able to admire it frequently, so his lab or office perhaps. It truly was a most magnificent surprise to start the morning and as soon as he had a free moment he would have to hunt the other professor down to thank him.
Suddenly recalling the note, Komui once again picked it up read it and paid particular attention to the words âfor the rest of this messageâ. A slight frown marred the science professorâs brow as he considered what those words might mean.
Donât tell me thereâs still more...
The exact meaning of the words would have to wait until later however, for now he only had enough time to grab a cup of coffee before rushing off to his first lecture of the day.

A couple of lab sessions and a few classes later, Komui headed over to meet with Shugarl in his office. He did have a copy of the other manâs schedule to consult should he need to although after all this time he practically had it memorised. Not surprising when they spent so much time together whether it was work orientated or otherwise.
Calling out his customary cheerful greeting, the scientist felt his eyebrows raise in question when his companion suddenly withdrew two containers from his desk.
Sapphire orbs blinked enquiringly behind their glass shields as they watched the other man set the gifts in question on his desk, anticipation as to what the canister and box concealed growing in the brief silence. He did not have to wait long for the gifts to be revealed however as Shugarl handed him the canister of handmade cookies which was soon followed by the unveiling of an origami dragon.
He was stunned absolutely speechless so it was perhaps a good thing that Shugarl was still busy explaining the finer points of the craft of origami and his magnificent creation.
Komui was of course very touched by the amazing gifts he had been presented with but he was admittedly also a bit overwhelmed. The watch he had gifted Shugarl a mere month earlier felt rather incomparable with what he had just gotten in return. The clock on itâs own would have been more than enough but gifts which had obviously taken a lot of time and care to create had been added to the mix.
Words alone somehow seemed insufficient but then he was on the whole a rather demonstrative individual. Carefully placing the canister of cookies on the desk next to the beautifully folded dragon before he warmly and enthusiastically embraced his fellow professor, he then propped his chin on the other manâs shoulder before lowly murmuring in the vicinity of his ear.
âIâm very glad to have you as my friend!â
The words were spoken with the utmost sincerity and meant wholeheartedly, gifts notwithstanding. There was no greater gift than Shugarlâs friendship after all.
There was no return gift day for White Day and somehow it didnât seem right to reciprocate on a birthday or over Christmas but next yearâs Valentineâs Day perhaps... Yes, next yearâs Valentineâs it would be.Â
