"Motherfuckin' cider donuts! Hell yeah!" begins scarfing down a whole box

"Wait...what do you mean Spider-man's not married to Mary-Jane anymore? I visited him three years ago, and she was expecting..." Gentaro's just been handed some bad news about a friend in another universe. And as it rolls around inside his mind, he also has to deal with one fact he hadn't considered before... Time moves at different speeds in different universes.

(Quick Update)

(Maybe not so quick... Earlier this year, I started a tabletop campaign about magical girls in 1994, using the Magi-Knights: Awakening system. As I posted my campaign updates in the game's official discord and published a positive review of the system on their DrivethruRPG page, the Creators asked me to join their community content program. I've got one side Episode almost ready to go. Just need art and layout work and I'll be a published author. However, I also have four other ideas for adding to the system. So if you happen to be browsing DrivethruRPG next year and see something written by Valerie Raith, that's me!)

She's experimenting with corseting. Today, she's got on a deep blue knee-length dress with cream crinoline, and has paired it with a deep chestnut corset. The fan lacing is a yellow ochre with a faint metallic sheen.

"What do you think?" Lo gives the dress a twirl back-and-forth, the crinoline making the skirt flare a bit with each turn. "Is it too much?"

"Have I ever said anything you make is 'Too much,' My Light?" Gentaro applauds the twirl. "I feel like I should take you out dancing!"

He really should know better. He's a teacher after all. He really should have known that just putting up his Shield module wasn't going to absorb all the impact of a monster swinging a mace at him with the speed of a baseball player. It did soften the blow, but that does little to stop his momentum as he gets the wind knocked out of him and gets thrown fifteen feet off the top of the building. "Look out below!" He shouts down to the ground level as he tries to right himself with the booster jets in his armor. Nope. He's going to hit the ground. The best he can do is try not to land on anything pointy or cement. The armor does its job, taking the brunt of the impact so he doesn't break any bones. But it also cancels out on him as he rolls to a stop five feet away from someone. He's dizzy, but still has enough presence of mind to tell this other person "Get to safety! The monster's going to come after me!"

(Since January, I've been running a magical girl tabletop campaign using the Magi-Knights Awakening system. Here's some of the highlights: Our "Thief of Speed" ran down a sentient tornado on foot. The "Thief of Hearts" discovered that she's a master sniper, not bad for a fourteen year-old girl. Bad, however, for all the cultists who get shot in the crotch. The "Thief of Lore" obliterated one of the strongest monsters of the enemy general by herself, by calling down four lightning bolts and a fire tornado. The "Thief of Death" learned how she had three prior lives as a magical girl, including one where she served under the Horseman of Death and one where her whole team was betrayed by their field leader. The "Thief of Stars" accelerated her education into the world of Chronomancy by time-traveling herself and the Thief of Speed forward to Cape Canaveral in 2099. The newly joined "Thief of Hell" finished off an enemy general in her first appearance with a thematically appropriate 66 points of damage. This system is so much fun. You need to get it!)

"So why do the monsters that fight Kamen Riders not branch out and go to other places? You never hear about the ones who do. You know why? Because there are other heroes out there. A Phantom once tried to go to Pikarigaoka to get away from Wizard. As soon as the Phantom started causing trouble, Cure Lovely punted him into the sky, and the rest of her team took turns adding to the air combo. Wizard says they got to forty-eight hits before he hit the ground."

"That's a good question. I figured if the monsters were already in the area, they should be able to move about and try different places. Ah. Well, I think you already answered your own question. With the presence of other heroes in other locations, it makes sense that monsters might stay where they might have a better chance at wearing down those they are already familiar with. "

"Yeah, it was a rhetorical question. But I have been asked it several times. It's under the same kind of question as 'Why don't the monsters attack the magical girls while they're transforming?' It's because they're putting out enough energy that anyone trying to touch them would be vaporized." Gentaro grins.
