I just finished "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and immediately went on tmbr to look for some metas, as one does, but for some reason almost no one mentions my favorite part of Buffy/Spike dynamic. This quote:

William is shown as not particularly masculine person. He's sensitive, he has some deep mommy issues, but

Anyway, his wish to be hers, not the over way around, is, I think, the reason Spike is such a fan favorite. Sadly, it's rare to see characters written like this

for the rest of my life i will mourn nikki freeman. the writer she may have become. the love stories she would have written. all the places in the world she could have explored. the people she could have helped. all of these things she could have done, ruined because a man was selfish and greedy. because he was self-seeking and truly did not care about her as a person, but as an idea. as a concept. he loved the idea of nikki freeman. because if bear truly loved nikki, he never would have put her through that.

there’s something so gutwrenching about the fact that the female characters in obsession have real dreams and wishes but never get the chance to see them realized, while both male characters waste their wishes on short-term selfish satisfaction. they were complex, free-spirited young women who just wanted to create art, and they were destroyed by a man determined to confine them to his superficial perception of them. nikki wanted to be a writer, sarah wanted to be a tattoo artist and now neither of them will get to be anything at all
