OK. Here’s what’s so wonderful to me about the Hawke/Fenris ship.
Yeah, it’s rocky and painful and confusing, and yeah, he’s kinda hard to be with, there’s a lot he has to work through that you really don’t have any means to help him with. He pushes you away time and time again, lashing out in his own fear and frustration and feelings of unworthiness. He gives you plenty of chances to give up on him…or at the very least, remove your heart from the equation. And to be honest, it is totally within your rights, maybe even your own mental health, to pull back, to support him as far as you can without getting your heart broken every step of the way. That makes sense, its logical, it’s a perfectly valid path.
But…and here is the reason Fenris/Hawke is my favorite ship…if you stick with it…if that’s who your Hawke is, and what’s best for them…if the connection you form with Fenris is the kind that just refuses to be put aside…then for every time that Fenris takes a swing at you, you are given the chance to reach out for him in return. You are given the opportunity to be relentless in your love and support for him, you are allowed to meet every hard situation with enough grace and affection to get you through to the next, even if sometimes you’re both holding on by a thread. And I think it’s in this moment where that really comes home.
This is the reason Fenris stays in Kirkwall for so long, even though he doesn’t know it. This is the reason why he can finally begin to even *think* about letting go of some of the pain he’s held so close for so long. Because at every turn you’ve been there for him, because you refuse to turn away, even if that’s the easier, maybe even the better path…because for the first time in his remembered life there is someone there fighting tooth and nail for *him*.
This is why it takes YEARS for the two of you to finally, wholly come together, and I know it’s frustration…but my god it’s worth it in the end.
Maybe it’s just me, but I think that’s pretty spectacular.

oh my god, please feel free to be excited about the new female thor but don’t lick marvel’s ass thinking it’s some sort of great feminist step
they literally had to release two articles announcing the news, one for mainstream media in which they yelled “new thor! only thor! female thor! forever” and once they got a pat on the back from feminists not versed in comics, they released the longer, nerd version which was basically “yeah it’s just a temporary arc. the old thor is still around. we’re gunna explore what happens when someone else has mjolnir. for a time.”
and meanwhile you have mr vice senior editor or whatever talking horrendous bullshit about what “women want from comics” (spoilers: hes wrong) and about how they will not be getting it from marvel anyway
do you ever wonder what an scp foundation entry expanded into a well-written series of books would look like?
southern reach trilogy
did you watch john carpenters the thing and think “yeah this is awesome but what would be even better is if it were happening in florida and the research team was all-female and the main character was autistic”?
annihilation (part of the southern reach trilogy)
"its lovecrafty. but not shit": the southern reach
i actually got the first book, annihilation, at sdcc and i started reading it a few days ago. it's short, well-written, and definitely has the unsettling factor that a good SCP entry gives.
"bioware panders to the gays" factoid actually statistical error. average bioware game has more romances for heterosexual pairings. dragon age 2, a game in which all of the LIs are bisexual, is an outlier and should not have been counted.
