The Eagle And The Snake
xxthespark;
There was something about being in muggle London that just made Hugo feel right at home. It could stem from his fascination with all things muggle because of his mother—who is arguably the brightest witch of her age and happens to be muggleborn. Either way he loves just being amongst them since they neither know who he is nor the dangers that lurk about in the magical world. With them came a sense of safety. A sense of just being without having to be on alert. His plan for the evening was to have a quiet beer or two before heading home from an exhausting day. As the night went on it brought about the coolness surrounding the air, evidently from the burst of cold wind that passes with each person entering or leaving the bar.
After paying his tab with the barkeep, Hugo left the bar and wandered the streets of London without any real destination in mind. He figured the cool air hitting his face would sober him up enough to apparate back home, not wanting to try to do so otherwise unless he wanted to face getting a nasty wound from splinching. In his travels he notices some strange figure in the depths of an alley and he had a strange feeling about him, which lead to his curiosity to take over and try to follow him in. In the depths of the alleyway from his perspective it seemed as if the man is standing over something, but he could not make it out. Not wanting to expose himself as a wizard Hugo keeps his wand concealed but his hand hovers over it just in case he needs to use it.
With his voice cutting the silence between them it’s very clear that Hugo’s presence is finally known to the man. “Oh sorry bruv, it seems I may be a bit turned around. I’m looking for my hostel. It’s Park House Hostel, do you happen to know where that might be?” He asks, trying to appear as innocent as he can. With the limited lighting in the alley he cannot make out who the person is and is about to blitz the man with a lighting spell to confuse him or at least daze him enough to leave, but it does come as a shock to Hugo when the man reveals a wand and recites the Wand-Lighting Charm revealing that there certainly is more to the man that meets the eye. To further his persona of a lost muggle, Hugo’s eyes widen and mouth gapes at the sight of the charm. He draws back from the man and just about stumbles to the ground trying to do so. “P-P-Please don’t hurt me. If you want money, I can give it to you. J-Just please.”
Secrecy had never been Elias’ forte. So even if he had not suspected Hugo was no muggle, he might have cast a spell in front of them anyway. Good thing his brother had helped him practice with the Forgetfulness Charm. Elias tipped his head to the side as the other fell over. Part of him wondered that perhaps he had mistaken the redhead for that Wesley trait. His finger tapped the handle of his dark wand, and shook his head.
“What makes you think I would have use for Gomp money?” He wondered, and frowned slightly, with a small shrug. “I do happen to know where your hostel is...” With a swift wave of his wand, and a raspy “Nox.”, he extinguished the white ball of light, walking closer to the Auror.
“I could swear we have met before.” He sated, with a toothy menacing smile, extending his hand to help the other get up, as he stored his wand back into his coat’s pocket. “My name is Elias Sovengard. A pleasure to meet your acquaintance.”
True, he ought to make this man forget he even met Elias soon. But he intended to have some fun before casting the spell on him. Something about the ginger had caught his attention. Perhaps it was how gullible he appeared to be, or maybe it had been that glint in his eye, a momentary hint of something. He couldn’t put his finger around what it was exactly. One thing was for sure, no Muggle would willingly walk into a dark alley in the middle of the night, in the center of London, alone, without being armed.
