Hey y'all,

You know what ladies who work offices go through a lot of?

Tights. Especially in Northern Alberta where it is absolutely foolish to not wear 2 pairs on a cold winter's day. We wear them day in and day out, they get caught on a corner and tear or your big toe breaks free half way through the day and encourages the others to follow. So what, right? Tights are cheap, you just toss 'em out and go buy five new pairs.Thanks to DuPont's introduction of nylon at the 1938 World's fair stockings shifted from delicate and expensive silk to disposable synthetics.

We aren't all lucky enough to live in a town with the most advanced recycling programs in the world. In most cities those tights will languish in a landfill not doin' nobody no good. There are about a million ideas out there and pinterest pages devoted to the subject but, I'm going to share 5 ideas of what you can do with those tights to keep them out of the dump!

1)Cut the tights into 5 in sections, tie a tight knot at one end, spoon in something that smells amazing, tie a knot at the open end, throw it in a drawer!

2)Most everyone has heard of or seen tights used to tie top-heavy tomatoes to a stake. But, split the leg of an old pair of tights and you can stretch that mother over nearly anything. Use it to protect your plants from animals, especially delicious sweet strawberries from their winged enemies. Split a pair of light coloured tights and tie each corner to a small stake and hammer the stakes around you precious berries.

3) Did you know you can use an old pair of tights as an emergency fan belt? Well, ya can. Toss a pair in your glove box and, if the belt brakes, just wait for the engine to cool down a touch and tie the tights where the belt used to be. You can't drive the thing 1000 miles or anything, but you should be able to get to a garage or your home.

4) Use tights to store long, skinny things like posters, or wallpaper. You don't even need to cut them if you don't want to! Just fill up them legs and tie them in a knot at the top.

5) Did you know you can recycle your old tights into things like carpet and park benches? No nonsense has created the first pantyhose recycling program. It is really easy too. Just print off the mailing label from their website, load up a box and ship them off to North Carolina. The company will accept nylons from anywhere in THE WORLD! So, put those old tights to good use. Waste not, want not, pals.
