I like to think Shinji when genuinely angry, the subtle bad mood, hes silent. Cagey behavior is more on the front lines where sarcasm takes over his behavior library. Answers short and far from helpful. Almost as if he's egging on the idea to banter than convers.

Before you know it, hes isolated in his personal space of choice, ears occupied by jazz music replacing the importance of therapy.

Edit: hc that his mouth shutting to show no teeth is when you know he's not in a good mood or in the presence of something/someone he does not particularly get down with.
