those words played in her mind, echoing midterms are whatever. its not like i need them anyway. who doesn’t care about midterms? she couldn’t help but wonder if it was just due to the fact he wasnt on scholarship or if it was due to his age. the concept of it though, being able to be so free with your choices, only peaked her interests more. they pressed through the heavy door, slipping out from under his arm while being whisked quickly to a back table by what she could only assume was another submissive nearly kissing his feet.

he ordered for her and the wine was poured quickly. she took a small sip, sighing happily at the taste, and settled quickly, her eyes falling to the silverware on the table. she’d never been somewhere this nice and she felt overwhelmingly out of place. but, he drew her back in quickly. “ my brother and i came here from sokovia last year.. “ she nodded, lips pressing into a thin line with a passing memory of petro, but it was short lived. “ our parents died in a bombing when we were young so it was always just us – “ her gaze had drifted but found its way back to him. “ what about you? “

It was almost comical how easy this was, but Fletch knew Wanda’s type. The kind of girl who had never had anything pretty, anything good in her life, and would grasp at the barest showing of kindness with two hands. He’d deal with it for a night or two, depending on how good she was in bed, but the clinginess was too much after that. “Sokovia. That’s somewhere near Russia right?” His mental map of the world was admittedly poor, only really knowing the popular tourist destinations that he’d visited with his parents. “So you and your brother are close it sounds like? Where’s he been? I’d imagine the two of you stick together all the time.”

He sipped at his wine easily, eyes trained on Wanda to give the appearance of utmost attentiveness. “Me? Nah, I’m boring. Dad’s a stockbroker, mom’s a trophy sub. No siblings so it’s just me running around. Or I guess getting shipped off to boarding school as soon as I could walk. And then I ended up here. Dad wasn’t too happy when I applied. Said it was too hippie and liberal but it’s not so bad. The girls are pretty,” he added with a cheeky wink.

he pulled her close, an arm over her shoulder and naturally it pulled her eyes upward toward him. long eyelashes batted up at him but the moment of admiration was short lived before he began their walk towards the edge of campus. fletch set the pace, even if it was a bit too fast for her, with her legs moving nearly in pace with his it felt more natural to stay a half step behind with her shoulder tucked into his side. 

“ i finished another sketch in my portfolio… “ she said casually, keeping her answers short was more of habit than anything else. “ nothing too stressful, how do you think you’re going to do on your midterms? “ she asked him with a passing glance upwards. a smile remained painted on her face but her eyes settled back on the street before them.

He didn’t bother looking down at her once as he led them towards the restaurant. Her words floated through his ears and he made sure to catch just enough that he could give an appropriately aloof response. “Yeah. That’s good. Midterms are whatever. It’s not like I need them anyways.” Grades were the least of Fletch’s worries. He was set to take over the family business a couple years after graduation and getting the degree was more for posterity’s sake than anything. His plan was to have a good time while at Livingstone. The board would be more than happy to accept a donation in order to look away. 

They came upon the restaurant soon enough, and Fletch strode through the door first, barely bothering to keep it open for the submissive. The hostess recognized him immediately and led them back to a quiet table, her nose practically bowing and scraping at the floor as she did so. Waving off the menus, he rattled off a couple dishes for the kitchen to bring them. No need to waste anyone’s time poring over the menu. Once they were settled, two glasses of wine poured between them, Fletch finally turned his eyes back to Wanda. “So, tell me about yourself.”

it had begun to feel like an elaborate prank until he had called her name. suddenly the wind wasn’t so cold and the smile that spread across her cheeks warmed her from the inside out. suddenly, it all became real and it all seemed surreal. a guy like him, into a girl like her – any place she wanted. 

all it took was him slipping his arm around her to bring her chin upwards to him. he’d already been peppering compliments that made her feel incredible. she’d been told she was pretty before, yes, but, this was different. he wasn’t pietro and he wasn’t cat calling her from a street corner. “ thank you, “ she said, pink flaring on pale cheeks, “ you look great – “ but her words were cut off by the presentation of the flower and a light sparked behind her eyes. “ thank you.. “ she beamed up at him, her lower lip find its way between her teeth briefly, her heart swelling before she could answer. “ yes, of course… lets go. “

A blush colored her cheeks and Fletch couldn’t wait until that color was on her face for another reason entirely. But they had plenty of time for that and he had to go through the motions before he could collect his prize. Patience was a virtue after all, or so his teachers had always told him. He didn’t bother to wait for her to agree before his arm was slinging over her shoulder, a possessive gesture if there ever was one, and they were on their way. 

The walk was brisk, just a tad too fast for her shorter legs, but he was curious to see whether she’d ask him to slow down. It was a test of sorts, to see how far he could push her. It would affect how he played his game. “How was the rest of your week, Wanda? Not too stressful I hope?”
