hey everybody else in the wildfire plume
CLEAN YOUR SHIT when the air quality goes back to normal in your area!!!! ours has been mega improved over the past couple days and we're back down to almost normal now (albeit with another cloud potentially coming 🙃🙃🙃) but i'm still struggling with breathing & sinus issues cuz it turns out EVERY SURFACE IN MY BEDROOM (the room with the leakiest windows) is coated with crispy evil dust
"oh it's just wood ash, it's a WILD fire!!" NO IT'S NOT, especially if you're farther from the source but still experienced the crazy block-out-the-sun smoke cloud. whole communities have gone up in this and paradoxically the nasty shit in the smoke travels further, which is why the further away you are the more it smells like a meth lab explosion or a burning car than a campfire. this dust contains all sorts of nasty shit from entire burning towns you do not want to be inhaling or living with or re-agitating through your space as the air goes back to normal. get it outta there.
use a shopvac or a wet duster (or even a wet rag you rinse frequently), run your air purifier while you do it, wear a mask, and change your clothes when you're done. vacuum your carpets/rugs and shake out or launder your curtains & change your bedding. sweep/mop if you have hard floors. vacuum out or replace your air filters, including the ones in your HVAC if you have central air. do your shelves, stacks of papers, lamps, picture frame ledges, electronics, furniture....everything. anything that's been left out over the past week. wipe your baseboards & radiators & doorframes & ESPECIALLY YOUR WINDOW SILLS/FRAMES/THE LITTLE PANE DIVIDER THINGIES, ESPECIALLY if you don't have central air. start at the top of the room and work your way down so you're not knocking a bunch of dust into shit you've already cleaned. i'm currently about halfway down & it's ALARMING.
it's not normal dust, that's why i'm making a post. this sucks ass.
stay healthy y'all
