clean up emma and make her my primary

emma frost deserves better than what marvel gave her. they’re so caught up in pitting her love for scott against jean’s that they routinely make her out to be the villain. emma hasn’t been a villain for a long time. and, even when she was one, it was under the control of the hellfire club and shaw, who was her abuser. yet marvel continuously throws that in her face, despite the fact that all emma has done is try to protect mutants. is she misguided in some attempts? yes. does she have a strong moral compass? no. but, emma frost always does what she feels is necessary to protect her students and mutant kind. she’s a good person, in her heart. marvel just needs someone to trash, so they choose her because its easier to hate emma compared to the other core mutants.

more on this. why is it easier to hate emma? well, because of how marvel has written her of course! marvel wanted everyone to hate emma at certain points, so they structured her entire arc that way. they pitted her against other women, and made her out to be have a very poor character.

emma and scott’s relationship started with scott cheating on jean with emma. everyone loved scott and jean, they had very sweet and enduring relationship. enter hot, blonde, rich emma! villainy points: 1. 

emma is very over-sexualized compared to the rest of the characters. this stirs the idea that she’s just an evil whore whose out to seduce and manipulate to get her way. compare this to jean, who marvel loves to pit emma against, who is always fully clothed and it often shown wearing very cute, retro outfits. villainy points: 2. 

emma is rich. and mean. it often seems like she attacks the sweeter female characters (i.e. kitty, jean, etc) without provocation. this gives her that “rich bitch” trope. villainy points: 3. 

emma has never had a set moral compass. she exists between being a hero and an anti-hero. this is often used against her, like in IVX, whereas other characters (like wolverine, magneto) are loved for those qualities. they make those characters “edgy” while marvel writes emma as being self-centered. villainy points: 4. 

whenever marvel needs a scapegoat, they routinely choose emma. because they’ve designed her character so that they can push the plot onto her shoulders whenever it needs somewhere to go. and, if you knew nothing about emma’s origin, it’d probably be pretty convenient to simply hate her. if you DON’T know anything about her, please read emma frost and emma frost: black. those are the only two runs that have actively attempted to humanize emma. thanks for coming to my ted talk. i hate marvel
