if yejun had inherited one thing from his father, it was his ability to leave the past in the past. the baker liked to think heβd gotten pretty good at not dwelling over past events and mistakes, eyes always set to the future ahead of him. his father had always told him to remember the past, but keep your eyes on the futureΒ β and it was a motto yejun usually lived by, especially in the bakery.
so high school wasnβt something that was often at the forefront of yejunβs mind, unless it really had to be. it almost felt like a lifetime ago, with how much had happened between then and nowΒ β joining the military, becoming a business ownerΒ β high school had turned into a distant memory, slowly getting lost to the passage of time.
it was just his luck that he was restocking a fresh batch of rolls when she walked in, causing yejun to drop about half the tray on the ground. swearing under his breath, he could feel his ears heating up as he attempted to pick up the scattered rolls, doing everything to not look at the girl whoβd been his longest relationship to date, the one heβd left without so much as an explanation. he knew it wasnβt fair, that what heβd done was an asshole move by anyoneβs standard but right now, all the baker wanted to was run away.
being back in gangnam after four years had been a bit frightening for dasom. she had just picked up and left when she had been only nineteen, leaving behind her family and her friends. and now that she was back, she was taking advantage of it. it had been easy for her to reconnect with the people in her life, at least the oneβs that had missed her. after leaving so suddenly, some of the people in her life decided that she had obviously not cared enough to let them know before she left, but it had been such a past minute decision she hadnβt really told anyone. but, here she was. back in gangnam, doing what she did best. shopping.Β
the outside of the bakery had caught her attention, but it was the smell of fresh baked bread that had her pushing open the front door. she took a deep breath in, the smell of the bread making her mouth water.Β
as she neared the counter, her phone went off and she quickly dug through her purse to find it. as she texted out a response to boa, she heard the clattering of a tray hitting the ground. as she looked up to see what the commotion was, she seen a younger man picking up the rolls her had dropped. dasomβs mind went blank when she saw that the young man was yejun.Β
βjunnie?β she questioned, utterly confused. the boy in front of her had been the end all be all of her adolescence. dasom couldnβt control the look of sadness that washed over her face as she remembered the heartbreak he had caused her.Β β...how long have you been back?β she questioned quietly, not even sure if he could hear her.
