No one will know the violence it took to become this gentle.
the phone rang and minsu stared at the cordless device in the main living room, not clueless as to what it was, but why it was ringing in the first place. they all had smart phones, and as far as she was aware everyone was currently in the manor, so why was this barbaric piece of technology ringing? with a nervous smile turned to her only company in the room, she wondered--- "you don't think its, yeomna do you?" she asks quietly, the room drawn silent between breaths, tempting to convince the vampires the person on the other end had given up; but it would always ring again.

Sabre laughed with the other, agreeing wholeheartedly that the idea did sound a little far-fetched. Aliens could very well be exact replicas of humans for all they knew, the only apparent difference, being language and customs. It was like that all over the world though, so he figured if aliens did exist, they had to be extraordinary in appearanceâstand out in some way to humans. âThey could very well be. Or identical to humans so they blend in and weâve no idea that theyâre among us,â Sabre finally allowed before adding, âbut then again, if they are intelligent, theyâd stay well away from this planet. Weâd have them in a glass case as soon you could mutter the word, âinvasion.ââ
âwhat if weâre the aliens?â she posed, obviously aware of how ridiculous a suggestion it was, when they had all positively been very human once upon a time ago. âor not us, but song yeomna. youâve been around a lot longer than i have--- how much do you really know about him, or what vampires really are, outside of what the stories tell us?â catching her tongue between her teeth, the redheaded girl awkwardly attempted to laugh her words off, half hoping the male wouldnât react to them at all, hoping she could slink back into the shadows and pretend sheâd remained distant from her pseudo family, to at least pretend sheâd never even considered the great father to be alien-like at all; but it was too late. âthough i suppose they would be rather similar to us. theyâd need to hide from the mortals as much as we do--- they might find it more difficult to blend in, too.âÂ

Hearing the response garnered, Sabre flicked his gaze to Minsuâs and bobbed his head slowly, still somewhat contemplating his own question. Eight hundred and twenty-two years spent roaming the earth, and the vampire was still unsure whether there was anything more out there, than just them, and the humans. It was a possibility, but heâd just never seen enough evidence throughout the years to fully convince him that it wasnât just the government fucking with them. He wouldnât put it past them. Snorting a laugh, he pointed skyward and asked, âOkay, but do you believe in little green men?â
âlittle green men?â she laughed, a soft noise bouncing through the air almost as silent as the wind; and then she lowered her eyes to meet with his, her head tossing from side to side in disbelief. âno, well--- maybe they are little and green, but aside from that they could be exactly the same as us, donât you think?â she pondered, an opportunity to speak no matter how shy she was, something she felt comfortable doing when the topic wasnât so serious. âif there is intelligent life out there, theyâre probably in an entirely different solar system out of our reach.â
Stretching himself out against the cold hard ground, much akin to a lazy cat on a sunny day, Sabre stared skyward, counting the stars far off in the distance. Or at least trying to anyway, but somewhere around sixty-four, heâd lost count. And focus. Either way, now he just gazed at them, pondering a million different things all at once, and occasionally toking from the blunt pinched between his index and middle fingers. The high wouldnât last longâit never didâbut the buzz would be enough to relax him for a little while at least. âYou really believe weâre it⌠that there is nothing and no one else out there, in deep, dark space?â He posed, feeling eyes on him, even if he couldnât yet see the other.
minsu hesitated at first, swayed on the tip of her toes with her little button nose pointed upward, acting as if she were deep in thought, despite how easy of a question she figured it was to answer. to think, in the vast space they would be the only living things was--- unreasonable, and theyâd believe far more unreasonable things in the past, and you donât live for more than one hundred and fifty years without opening up to the possibility of more. âof course not...âÂ
despite being around for so long, seunghoon got tired, he was tired. arriving in the middle of the night from a business trip, he was fortunate enough to feel little to no movement inside the dalseong manor. he assumed members were out having their own entertainment, scavenging for blood, or even socializing in the city⌠he didnât care. placing his briefcase on top of the kitchen counter, he sat down at the island, pulling his chair closer to prop his elbows up comfortably. âi thought i was alone,â he hummed, fingers running through his styled hair as another presence was made known.
nobody makes her feel smaller than the eight-hundred and something year old vampire; heâd been around well before she had been born and even longer since she was turned. quiet as usual and rarely seen in the vast space of the manor the other manors theyâd stayed at in the past minsu dragged her gaze carefully from the ground, stared at the back of the sitting males head with her breath caught in her throat. âdid you?â she peeped, mousy in tone and expression. âiâm sorry for disturbing you, seunghoon...â
Cigarettes changed. Itâs funny but thatâs the thing that bothers him after nearly 70 years. His first was smoked outside the workhouse, rolled by older boys and shared with a reverence. One whiff (oh god it was vile) and he was doubled over almost puking, while the rest laughed. A baptism, if you will.Â
That was the past - a different life. Yet, the need for the taste of nicotine prevailed in his afterlife, somewhat dulled. Â The cancer sticks of now were civilized killers compared with the raw, barbaric, harsh intensity of no filter, hand-rolled cig. But why bother with smoking if you need to pretend it is not a killer sport? He grabbed his pack and shook one out, almost empty - he noted. A minute later, with a cigarette haphazardly hanging from his lips he opened the rooftop door.
ever the recluse, little minsu had long since escaped to the open space on top of the manor, a place where she was only occasionally lucky enough to be alone with her thoughts, glancing up at the sky in wonder with a soft hum pursed between her lips. though she didnât mind the company of the coven, it felt natural to slip off on her own, to stare at the sky and ask if their maker was wandering under the same moon. alone.
with the click of the door, the girl lowered her gaze, holding her breath in hopes it was just nothing, that whoever was making their way up would turn around and change their mind; but there was that smell of nicotine in the air, unlit, and the girl knew it was too late. âoh, minjoon--- would you like to be left alone up here?â

so  minsu ;  when  did  you  last  see  the  light  of  day?  rumor  has  it  youâre  only  19  years  old,  but  we  all  know  better  than  that,  when  the  family  records  tell  the  truth.  155 years  have  really  done  you  no  good  ⌠ it  seems  youâre  still  reclusive  and  forgetful,  despite  the  influence  of  the  coven.  being  a  vampire,  i  suppose  itâs  rather  shocking  to  hear sheâs  honest and  considerate,  and  yet  i  believe  it  through  &  through.
