“You can do anything you put your mind to”
If that’s true, why don’t you take off and fly instead of walking? If that’s true, why don’t you jump instead of taking the stairs? If that’s true, why don’t you run instead of driving your car?
We all have limits - it’s just that some limits are so common that they’re being acknowledged and accommodated by society and thus aren’t seen as limits as reasonable accommodations for these limits exist in our current society.
Having limits only becomes a problem when you have limits that most people don’t have due to mental illnesses or physical/mental disabilities, because these limits aren’t accommodated or acknowledged by society.
If you’re a neurotypical, ablebodied person, you likely won’t notice your limits as society is built to accommodate them, but there’s plenty of things you can’t do - the thing is, you aren’t expected to.
Please take a step out of your bobble of privilege and realize that for some people, working or studying 8 hours a day is as impossible as flying like a bird is to you and stop telling disabled and mentally ill people that they can do everything they put their mind to.
Cause none of us can - not even you. You’re just lucky that the limits you do have is shared by the majority of the population. Many of us aren’t that lucky.
hot take but poor people aren’t a drain on resources, rich people are

Loving someone with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
((ROMANTICALLY OR PLATONICALLY))
1) Tell them what’s real. Have them tell you what’s real. Whether it’s the color of their shirt or how much they are needed.
2) Be there. Just be there. For them, or with them. Sometimes the most calming thing can be laying in bed (or on the floor!) with them in silence. Just having another person with them.
3) The little things means everything. The actual idea that you have taken a second to not tell us, but show us will be something we hold onto. (Personal note: someone very special to me sent me a flower gram at school in February for Valentine’s Day, I still have it.)
4) Reassure them constantly that you love them. Keep them in the loop of your life, even if it’s just a text saying you love them or what you’re up to today.
5) They will think you’re angry with them for no obvious reason to you, and then you’ll get annoyed that they think that. Don’t. Our minds have a way of making us think any and everyone hates us.
6) They will push you away. They’re scared. It is nothing against you. Typically, it means they’re scared of how close you’re getting. This is a great time for hugs (with consent!)
7) They will love you. They feel so deeply and sometimes it’s so, so hard but they will never ever want to be without you.
@ boyfriend anon
if you are dating a borderline (from a borderline)
i say this as things i would like to tell other people who are dating someone with borderline personality disorder. i personally have it and have only had it for about a year, but i have also had a boyfriend for over a year and these are things that i tell him and i thought it would be useful.
1) borderlines want attention. they want to be loved. they want to know that someone cares about them. we often fear abandonment and it gives us a lot of anxiety and often causes depressive episodes. remind your partner that you love and care about them
2) borderlines feel emotion about 5 times stronger than someone without this disorder. do not tell us that we are over reacting to something that happened, instead comfort us
3) we never purposefully mean to be abusive or hurt you. you are never forced to stay with us. the reason we may behave in a way that makes you feel like you have to take care of us is because of intense fear of abandonment.
4) sometimes we are impulsive, and it’s best to try to help control us with that. this can mean excessive spending, dangerous behavior, etc, and the best thing you can do is to try to promote us to stop doing it. i would wish that people would help bring me back into reality when i’m being impulsive.
5) our mood can be very unstable, so don’t be surprised when we’re suddenly breaking down or depressive. try to be comforting when this is happening
6) if we are changing our identity a lot due to identity disturbance, support us. call us our new name, new pronouns, etc. do not invalidate our identities
7) avoid ableist language. do not call us ins*ne, cr*zy, ps*cho, etc
8) you are never obligated to stay, but if you do, please take care of us
This is a great post but I want to add that this is good for people with friends with BPD as well! This advice doesn’t have to apply with dating. If you’re friends with someone with bpd, this is good advice!
sometimes i feel that i deserve no one because i’m honestly a hard person to understand and people will always get tired of me and give up
@greater-than-the-sword
This is amazing
i hate myself and want to die but also i am so full of love and i want to spread light but i’m tired of the two conflicting versions of myself fighting.
