#AmberAppreciationDay
May 7th will mark 20 years since the original airing of the BtVS episode ‘Seeing Red’. There is a lot to *not* celebrate about that episode so what we *do* want to celebrate is the performance of Amber Benson and the way she continues to fight for, love and appreciate her fans.
How? Well we think she deserved her own day! An #AmberAppreciationDay!
So on May 7th, I invite you to lovebomb the hell out of Amber using the hashtag #WeAppreciateYouAmber or #IAppreciateYouAmber and tell her why! If you can, you can also choose to donate to a charity Amber is currently supporting: https://t.co/y9TjYIx7bw
We're also going to try and put together a video message for her! If you want to submit a brief message of love and appreciation for Amber (and Tara!) you can upload it here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1DRbPcjvHFyEpIjRBvkuoemUd78dsFcGO?usp=sharing
Amber Benson at the GalaxyCon Q&A Panel (x)
The Buffy cast’s full Q&A from GalaxyCon is now online!
New podcast alert! Amber was the special guest at Syosset Public Library’s Turn the Page podcast.
Amber Benson zoomed in to talk about her several series written in the fantasy genre, and ended up hanging out to discuss the foresight of Octavia Butler, the congeniality of Merricat Blackwood — Shirley Jackson’s antihero, and how often Giles cleaned his glasses during her time on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Spoiler Alert! Merricat wasn’t so nice, but Amber is a delight.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Free Q&A!
For anyone interested, GalaxyCon is holding a free live Q&A with some of the cast of Buffy on Saturday, January 30th from 4pm - 5pm EST! James Marsters (Spike), Amber Benson (Tara), Emma Caulfield (Anya), Claire Kramer (Glory), and Mark Metcalf (The Master) will be featured and there will be a live chat option if you want to send the cast a question during the live.
Here is the link to register for the Buffy Q&A! (Make sure to check your spam, promotions, or social inboxes after you register. That’s usually where my confirmation emails get sent instead of my main inbox.)
This is the link for their January and February schedule!
Thank you!

Had a blast at the @emmafilm premiere last night, and was extra happy that I got to bring @rebma_nosneb as my date… she is a perfect bag holder and wing person when it comes to snatching small bites.
Alicia Silverstone and Amber Benson in The Crush (1993)
When people are described as “gay icons” it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are themselves gay people who are iconic—it means that something about their cultural role has been widely embraced by a significant part of a gay population, and their own sexuality or gender is irrelevant.
Judy Garland is probably the most classic example. She was such a famous gay icon, despite being a straight woman, that “friend of Dorothy” has been ingroup code for gay since the 1950’s. The same can be said for James Dean and lesbians. So when people refer to, say, Hozier as a “lesbian icon”, they’re not calling Hozier a lesbian, they’re just acknowledging that he is widely recognized as a pop culture symbol amongst many younger lesbians. There are of course many LGBTQ icons people who are themselves LGBTQ!
I have seen a lot of younger LGBTQIA+ folk getting angry that people get called gay icons despite not being gay. I hope this helps clear things up for those folk.
