As with most bumper stickers, these typefaces are hideous. But bonus points for juxtaposition.

On Saturday, I received my BA in English from UC Berkeley. I was selected to speak at the English Department’s commencement; this is the speech that I gave.
When I tell people I’m an English major, the most common response is, “What are you going to do with that?” It’s one of my least favorite questions, but I’ve come to realize that it’s an important one. What are we going to do with English?

I’ve been living in San Francisco for one week now and it’s all been very surreal to me. I don’t think it’s quite soaked in yet that I live in one of the most amazing cities in the United States, but I’m sure it will eventually hit me soon.
For the past seven years, I used to be a resident of Berkeley, California. I moved to Berkeley as a freshman in college back in 2004. I graduated in 2008 but ended up staying an additional three years (while I worked in San Francisco). Berkeley is an amazing city and it will always hold a special place in my heart. It always annoys me when people think of it as a town full of hippies and potheads, because the city is so beyond it’s stereotype these days.
I honestly have no qualms with living in Berkeley and would not be disappointed if I ever had to move back there. I feel that the only reason why I moved out of Berkeley (asides from the logical convenience of being closer to work) is because it’s time to move on.

Favorite Berkeley Character
I won’t lie – I don’t take to a lot of the Berkeley characters, LOL. I don’t know why. But I do like the guy who sits on Sather Gate and holds the “You’re Perfect” sign. Good message, good guy, good day.

Go past Hearst, walk to the parking lot behind the Greek Theater. Keep going right, and you’ll see two dirt paths eventually. And then climb up the left path. The swing is pretty close to the Big C, like before the final bend to the top. Some people recently added a swinging bench by the swing. It...
