Much of the songs off of Koffin Kats' most recent release "Higher Lows" were written using recorded scraps of noodling between Tommy's guitar and Vic's bass during soundcheck on tour as the primary basis, and some songs in the past were written this way as well. Koffin Kats tracks are written instrumental first and have lyrics "jammed into them" later on.

If you've been present for a Koffin Kats soundcheck, or even just been within earshot from outside of the venue (Go home creepo, doors aren't open for another, like, 4 hours.), there's a small — but still very real — chance you've heard half a riff that could end up on a new record.
