Do you think this is just another case of the Leafs throwing money at the problem?

Too early to tell. It all depends on whether MLSE is going to give him the opportunity to rebuild this team into a stronger, more competent one, or if they just want instantaneous results and turn on him if the Leafs fail to make the playoffs next year.
