The prospect of going to a normal amusement park is usually enough to make Shiloh’s stomach lurch. Naturally, he’s never been able to handle it too well. Attractions like booth games and bumper cars are right up his alley, but just the thought of roller coasters and free fall drop towers are enough to bring on the nausea. Even having someone as close to him as Ronan right by his side might not be enough to quell the symptoms of his phobia. But “exploring,” on the other hand, is a totally different story.
“Wait, it’s old?” He echoes, leaning forward a bit in interest. The excited spark in his eyes already means that Ronan’s got him coming along. “Like abandoned and rickety and overgrown kind of old? Let’s go ! Let’s go !”
Really, it’s only Ronan that could get him out of bed like this at such a late hour, and to go to an old amusement park of all places. If it had been anyone else, and the apprehension might have hit him a little harder. To any outsider, it could be chalked up to foolishness, but in truth, it speaks volumes of Shiloh’s trust in Ronan.
“I’ll get my shoes, and we can go— I mean, after I get a flashlight. We need one of those, right?”
The smile on his face doesn’t lessen in the slightest as he flits about his room, somehow managing to find a flashlight for them, among other little things he thought might be useful on their adventure (snacks included, of course). Corn, tucked away in her favorite hiding place in her tank, even gets bid a farewell and joyful, “Don’t start any parties while I’m gone!” When he turns to Ronan, you’d never think he’d been deep asleep just ten minutes ago.
“How are we…. getting there?”
Even normal amusement parks were a blast for Ronan – fried food, booth games, rollercoasters – he loved them all. He hadn’t been to one in quite some time though, and an abandoned one sounded even better. Without anybody around except for Shiloh, he could even bring out his wings and be himself! He hoped they could maybe find some remnants of any of the booth games though, maybe they could find some balloons or bottles to setup and play.
“It looks SO old! It’s ‘gonna be a blast!” he had to hold himself back from shouting, but the words still flew out of his mouth louder than intended. Truthfully, the amusement park couldn’t have been abandoned for that long, it looks just that perfect age of abandoned to where some stuff might still function. Of course, Ronan had only looked at it briefly.
The amount of excitement and adrenaline that flowed throughout Ronan’s veins was immense, and there was nobody else in the world he wanted to share this moment with more than Shiloh. Everything was always more fun with him. He loved Enni too – but she was way too careful! He could never have this much fun with her around. Everything was always ‘don’t’ with her – don’t fly, don’t be so loud, don’t show your wings – with Shiloh he could just relax.
“Oh oh! Good idea Shiloh!!” A flashlight would definitely be handy. Maybe they should bring other supplies? He wasn’t sure. He’d let Shiloh take care of that. Shiloh was much better at planning than him anyway. Ronan was more the spontaneous idea friend, while Shiloh made sure they were prepared.
As the question dropped from Shiloh’s lips, all thoughts cleared from Ronan’s head. How indeed… would they get there. Ronan’s first instinct was to fly, but that wasn’t an option his best friend would entertain.
“We… could walk? It’s not too far from here, just a couple miles north-east.” Really, he didn’t know of any other option. When given the chance, he’d fly just about anywhere over any other form of transportation. He didn’t know how Shiloh did it – when Enni didn’t let him fly places, travelling sucked.
