[ N.R IS CALLING ]

*She picks up not even after a beep, holding the phone to her ear. The sound of her walking could be heard faintly in the background.*

"Nakamura." *She said, sounding out of breath, as if she had been running.*

"..How are you holding up?" *She asked after a pause. It felt awkward but that mattered very little at the moment.*

*The phone is screechy from constant noise, yelling EMTs and beeping machines and heavy breathing from the boy who called in the first place*

I… I feel… floaty

"That's.. definitely a word to describe how you feel. Did you just come back from work or?"

*She asked, it was a weekday after all, so it'd explain why he got home later. And it was a topic of conversation to keep the boy from completely floating away.*

*He takes an entire minute to process the question*

Yeah. Was- was after I took Dads files. I was with Yuri-k-kun, then… was walking around in the park until my shift. Was in Kira Kira until 4am or something, didn’t wanna go home. Then I was like— “fuck the divorce lawyer, I’ll just be with my mom whenevrrr” so… um… I walked to her place, and when I got there….

*He doesn’t elaborate*

I put dad’s files back— sometime, I don’t remember when. So it’s okay. It’s fine.

"Good, I mean, putting away the files. I know you were doing it for a case but honestly? I'd rather you be safe than get a case." *She mumbled near the end. Yuck, vulnerability. But ignoring that..*

"Were you able to change before getting picked up by the ambulance or are you still in uniform?" *She asked, the sound of her train card being beeped could be heard, along with the voices of passerby's.*

*He hums, not registering anything for a while, and pulling the blanket closer to himself, unbeknownst to her*

Just… my underclothes. Black shirt- the one with no sleeves. And just my underwear for bottoms today.

*He slurs* Itsssss laun-der-y d-day

*He abruptly makes a confused noises*

Why would I be in my uniform..? I don’t own it *It would sound incredulous if it wasn’t so shaky*

"Oh yeah, right." *She said, mentally face palming before continuing.*

"You sound tired. Wanna try to sleep until you get to the hospital?" *She asked, as she was scooting herself onto the train, speaking more hushed into the phone.*

*She also made a mental note to buy a jacket when she got off the train for the other before making her way to the hospital.*

*A low pathetic whine escapes his throat*

"Shock..?" *She mumbled, confused. And the whine made her heart drop, more than she even thought was possible. She didn't like that sound, was the conclusion she came to. At least not in it's current context.*

*Renji can’t stop himself from sobbing, exhausting turning them to nothing but anguished hiccups*

D-doctors said m’in shock, but I’m so tired, and my chest hur’s, s’cold, n-n moms not moving and there’s so much traffic— I-I- I-

*Theres gasping sounds over the line, a doctors quiet voice reverberating over the speakers with- “Nakamura-san? Hon, breathe for me”*

*Tsubasa's lower lip found it's way between her teeth, nibbling and tasting her chapstick before speaking again.*

"Just listen to the doctor's for now, alright? You'll be at the hospital real soon." *She said, softly. Or attempting to anyways, as she forced her voice to soften into whatever mushiness it was now. She was blocking the sound of her voice out of her head though.*

*The doctors voice returns*

Thank you for keeping him calm, sweetie, that was very kind of you. We’ll take it from here, he’ll be okay!

[ N.R HAS HUNG UP THE PHONE ]

*After the longest 25 minutes of his life, Renji finds himself in the chair of a waiting room. Some woman in white is doting on him, but he can’t really understand anything*

*Tsubasa bustled in, head whipping from left to right before finally resting on Renji. She physically relaxed, letting out a soft sigh as she walked over it him. It didn't take a genius to tell he wasn't all completely there, so she just took the jacket she bought when she got off the train (she bought one size up from herself, and it was dark gray) and draped it over his shoulders.*

*She took her own seat next to him, crossing her ankles before glancing at him.*

*Renji doesn’t notice her until the jacket was already wrapped around his back*

Did you know that the hot chocolate here is free…? Cause a lady gave it to me- said- said something… didn’t take my money

*He sipped the bland drink once more, relishing the brief feeling of warmth in his cold body before plopping his head down on Tsukumos shoulder*

*She didn't tense in the face of the physical affection, for once. Which was weird, but she'd revisit that at a later date. Her hand went up, and very reluctantly went through the other's hair. Her eyes were on the ceiling as she allowed the other to collapse into her with little resistance.*

"Oh really? That was nice, huh? Taste good?" *She asked, looking down at the Renji sipping the hot chocolate slowly.*

*He shrugs*

*He sighs, bleary-eyed and eerily still

“Mm. Yeah. But let’s try and think positively, just this once.” *She said, followed by a soft hum in the back of her throat.*

*Renji looks about to cry*

*He just sighed, deeper and longer, still too tired to cry*

—*mic cracks audibly* Guys- I- I stole like a BUNCH of my dads files, and SHIT this is deep. There was this girl, Haru- something, my old babysitter and the head of the light music club. Well, the SPONSER of the club… molested her, before murdering her when she allegedly threatened to tell on him. The man was fired and jailed immediately, but soon after ANOTHER kid from the light music club was found hurt… sexually… and dead. Then another, and another until nobody inside the light music club attended. Everyone was either dead, mourning the dead, or scared of the light music clubs curse. That’s all I’ve been able to find, but I just can’t get the connection— if that man was fired and jailed, why were there more crime scenes in the same light as Haru? It makes no sense at all… anyway, that’s why our light music club isn’t talked about and disbanded. So, I think we have a pretty good essay. Also, my dad’s gonna come home and notice his files missing, so… I need somewhere to crash.— [THE RAMBLE ENDS]
