For those of you who still donāt get it:
This is not a trial. Itās a job interview. If Kavanaugh has been wrongfully accused, then yes, that is too bad, he should sue Dr. Ford for slander, damages, et cetera. But at this point in time, we have a job interview at which three different people have spoken up about the candidateās history that shows he lacks important traits for the job (in this case, moral character, dignity, etc.). Saying the employer at that point is āpunishingā the candidate by not hiring that person is ridiculous. An employer in this situation normally would just pick someone else.
And, not that this is a trial, but: sworn testimony isĀ evidence. In fact, in most cases, the most important evidence. Weāre talking about something that happened many, many years ago. What other evidence is there? Yes, Kavanaugh also testified under penalty of perjury. Thatās alsoĀ āevidence.ā That it goes against Dr. Fordās sworn testimony doesnāt make her testimony suddenly notĀ āevidence.ā If youāre dismissing Dr. Ford because all she has isĀ āher word,ā then youāre saying you value Kavanaughās word over Dr. Fordās, for whatever reason that may be. Is it because sheās a woman? Is it because heās a judge? Are men more trustworthy than women? Are lawyers more trustworthy than scientists?Ā
For all of you sayingĀ āif I said _____ and two people corroboratedā¦ā whatās your point? If I applied for a job and three people did come out and said I was horrible, that I was a murderer, a rapist, a pedophile, etc., then I would 100% understand if I didnāt get the job I applied for. Duh. I would take action thereafter (sue them for slander), but I wouldnāt think the employer was being unreasonable, especially if the job was the fucking SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES.
Do you know why people donāt falsely accuse people? Because theyāre usually not that terrible, and also because if you falsely accuse people, there are consequences. Laws on slander exist. People donāt usually lie just to fuck with other peopleās lives because most people are decent human beings, and also because they might get sued. Now, Dr. Ford went further than just talking by testifying under penalty of perjury.
If you are that vindictive, go ahead and accuse someone you donāt like of sexual assault, get few of your friends to do it with you. Tell their employer. And when they sue you for slander, testify under penalty of perjury that you didnāt lie. Iāll wait. Now, why would I do that, you would say.
We rarely even spread false rumors about people we donāt like. Why go to the press and lie? Why volunteer to testify under penalty of perjury?
But listen, while I personally believe Dr. Ford here, my anger isnāt from the belief that Judge Kavanaugh didĀ assault Dr. Ford but may still get confirmed. Itās from the realization that somehow, with this particular nominee, these Senators are making the incredible decision to hire someone whoās been so accused. Why? There are other incredibly qualified judges. The confirmation hearing showed that this man also shouts, doesnāt answer questions, has a temper, et cetera. Even he admitted he shouldnāt have said some of the things he said. Pick another Republican judge, one who hasnāt been accused of indecent behavior by multiple people.Ā
