Overwhelmed by media scrutiny and still hurt by Louis's behavior, Laura decides to leave their shared accommodation at the Naval Academy of Poulmic. As her brother Adrien helps her pack up her belongings, Napoleon V arrives hoping to speak with her. Upon discovering that she is leaving, he is overcome with emotion. Beneath his anger lies a deeper fear: that he may lose Laura forever.

(A man in his thirties appears, his coat still damp from the rain. The same dark eyes as Laura, the same restraint in his movements.)

(Adrien looks toward Napoleon. He greets him briefly, without open hostility, but without any particular deference either.)
Adrien: Wait for me in the car. I’ll bring down what’s left.
Laura: Alright.
Napoleon: Laura...
(Laura leaves the apartment.)
Adrien: Sire… My sister explained everything to me.
(Napoleon sighs. As if this situation were not already humiliating enough.)
Adrien: Please… let her breathe. She needs it.

Adrien: Nothing, Your Majesty.

Un homme d’une trentaine d’années apparaît, manteau encore humide de pluie sur les épaules. Même regard sombre que Laura, même retenue dans les gestes.
Adrien Delcroix, son frère aîné.
Adrien : Laura ? Il ne reste rien en haut.
Laura : Adrien…
(Adrien pose son regard sur Napoléon. Il le salue brièvement, sans hostilité ouverte, mais sans aucune déférence particulière non plus.)
Adrien : Attends-moi à la voiture, j’apporte ce qui reste.
Laura : Très bien.
Napoléon : Je t’aime.
(Laura quitte l’appartement.)
Adrien : Sire… Ma soeur m’a tout expliqué.
(Napoléon soupire. Il ne manquait plus que ça.)
Adrien : S’il-vous-plaît, laissez-la respirer. Elle en a besoin.
Napoléon : De quoi m’accusez-vous, au juste ?
Adrien : De rien, Votre Majesté.

The morning after his return to Versailles, Napoleon V joins Charlotte at the Petit Trianon for what appears to be a peaceful breakfast. But beneath the quiet intimacy of the moment, the Regent calmly confronts her husband about the scandal caused by the photos published in Voici. Already familiar with Laura Delcroix from their years at Polytechnique, Charlotte refuses to see the young woman as a romantic rival and instead condemns Louis’s irresponsibility for dragging a serious and discreet naval cadet into a humiliating media scandal. Ashamed, Napoleon tries to apologize, but Charlotte ultimately chooses to end the conversation without drama, revealing a disappointment far colder.
Charlotte: You look better.
Napoleon: I was sleeping quite well until a valet opened the curtains.
Charlotte: That must be less disturbing than the bugle at military school.

Tucked away deep in the countryside of Windenburg, the so-called "lodge" sits within the Kingswood, a 1,000-acre forest where Kings would hunt during the summertime. The lodge remained at the center of the Royal Family until the 1830s, when Odette passed away at the age of 94. She left the residence to her granddaughter, Queen Mary II, who used the lodge sometimes during her early marriage. It's taking a while because I enjoy looking at all the pretty pictures. & being sad and angry for the young girls who were repeatedly used as tools for the continuance of their dynasty. And reading about how they found happiness within their constraints.
But it's mainly taking forever & a day, because the information can be incredibly hard to connect without accessible or reliable documentation as to who people, especially women, were. It started with the Habsburgs & the French & extended into almost anyone who had the connections to be anyone... Which in turn really outlined that there is no social mobility, it's proxy governments all the way down. Resulting in horrible conditions, from the fall of rome and into our present.
Anyway, I read something not too long ago about women being more likely to have trendy names, as they've not been the ones, "carrying on," the family tree for most of history. And for the working class, I'm sure that's true, but for anyone with any amount of blue blood? Out the window entirely. Each family has a pool of names that only changes/expands when there's enough kids in a generation to need something new. & then it's everywhere, again. And it isn't merely based in the family name, but their connections, proxy governments, and cadet branches.
If the mother is someone important, like a countess, you can almost guarentee that her first son will have a name from her dynasy. To then be traded among the list of names that have already been used. Everything is to renew a claim, because you never know when you're the one up to bat. It took a lot of time to realize this, and once I did, it was like a lightbulb moment.
I started knowing where to look, based on name, year, and spouse or child. Like, "a new Guelph? Named Sybille? I've done enough reading to know who her daddy, and her daddy's daddy, and her daddy's daddy's daddy is. Though Margaret is a little more complicated, I have very few connections left to make. The ones I'm making now are just... In my own time. They require thought, like, "are you significant enough to waste my free time on?" "You did something heionous, does anyone cool descend from you, or should I just delete you now?" and "Who really cares about Waldeck?" This is a hobby & I intend to enjoy it.
...I also intended to make them into sims, but seeing as there's likely going to be four thousand + of them, I'm probably going to copy my dear friend @royaltysimblr and do portraits of who I want, when I want, as I want.

More of this. for us." He had all those adopted children & foreign thrones, but he kept them under his own belt. He should have taken Marie Louise and milked her family for all it was worth. & he should have done to Sweden what the Habsburgs did to Spain. He could have had a dynasty, instead he took an empire.
