Sometimes Bucky visits his father’s grave, sitting there with his guitar or triangle, playing softly just in case his dad can still hear him.
Bucky’s father and Bruno’s lifelong best friend.
Liam and Bruno had been inseparable since kindergarten. From day one, they were best friends, the kind who got into harmless trouble together, dreamed big together, and never stopped supporting each other.
In high school, Liam was known as the chill, charismatic guy everyone liked. He was popular, talented, and confident, but never cruel. He was also the leader of a band he formed with Bruno, the librarian, and Sinjin (Yes, Sinjin the magician). Liam played bass guitar and could practically master any instrument he picked up. Music was his entire world.
That same world changed the day he met Ella.
Ella, the sweet and shy girl, completely stole his heart. He fell for her instantly. They were opposites in reputation, the popular musician and the quiet girl, but they loved each other deeply. Unfortunately, Ella’s parents hated Liam because of his image and didn’t approve of their relationship.
At just 19 years old, Liam and Ella got married. When her parents found out, they cut Ella off completely and banned her from their home. It hurt, but Liam promised her she’d never be alone.
As his band started gaining popularity, Liam dreamed of traveling the world. Touring. Fame. Music everywhere.
Then he found out Ella was pregnant.
Without hesitation, Liam gave it all up.
He left the band, put his dreams on hold, and took a job at a music store. He wasn’t upset, he was overjoyed. Becoming a father meant more to him than fame ever could.
When Bucky was born, Liam became the most devoted father imaginable. He adored his son and spoiled him endlessly. At just two years old, he began teaching Bucky how to play guitar, practicing with him every single day.
When Bucky discovered his love for the triangle at age three, Liam didn’t laugh or dismiss it, he supported him fully. If Bucky pretended he was performing at a sold-out concert with his triangle, Liam would be in the “audience,” cheering louder than anyone… sometimes even recording his baby boy like he was already a star.
When Bucky was only four years old, Liam was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 31.
Bucky doesn’t remember much about that day, only the feeling of loss. Months of screaming and crying, begging for his daddy to come home. Ella was shattered. She had lost her husband, her best friend, her everything.
Bruno was devastated too, but he stepped up.
He came over every day. Checked on Ella. Made sure she was eating, sleeping, surviving. He helped around the house, encouraged her to go to therapy, and helped raise Bucky. He became their support system when everything felt like it was falling apart.
Bucky doesn’t remember his father clearly anymore, but sometimes he visits his grave. He sits there quietly, crying. Other times, he brings his guitar… or his triangle… and plays for him.
