โI came back to Korea after graduating from university abroad. Iโm looking for work now, but Iโm worried both because the job market is tight and because I think Korean company culture doesnโt fit me well. I donโt really like the culture of drinking or after-hours company dinners, and one time when I went to do a job interview, they even made us stand at attention and bow. You could probably see this expression on my face during the interview: โAh, I really donโt want to work at this company.โ Iโm worried about finding a job, but also about what will happen after I do find oneโฆโ

Here comes a list of useful words you can find on most Korean beauty product and sample packagings:
ํ์ฅํ - cosmetics ๊ธฐ๋ฅ์ฑ - functional ์ฌ์ฉ๋ฒ - way of use / how to use ์ฆ์ ์ฉ -ย โfor presentationโ so in this caseย โnot for saleโ ์คํจ์ผ์ด - skin care ๋ด์ฉ๋ฌผ - contents ๋ง์ง๋ง ๋จ๊ณ - last step ํผ๋ถ - skin ์ด์ดํ - moist ๋ถ๋๋ฝ๋ค - soft (๋ถ๋๋ฝ๊ฒ- softly) ๋ฐ๋ผ์ค๋๋ค - apply ํผ๋ถ๊ฒฐ์ ๋ฐ๋ผ - (by) following the skinโs texture ์์ ๊นจ๋์ด ์ป์ ํ - after washing your hands clean/thoroughly
์ฌ๋ฆฌํ ํฉย - sleeping pack ํธ๋ ํฌ๋ฆผ - hand cream etc. (as far as I know, product types ย - like these two examples above - are usually written by using the English word simply written with hangeul, so if you can read the Korean alphabet and speak English, you wonโt have any trouble figuring out what type of product you are looking at ;))
์ ์กฐํ๋งค์ ์ - (manufacturer) basically this is the brand which sells the product ์ ์กฐ์ ์ - manufacturer (which actually makes the products for different brands) ๊ณ ๊ฐ์๋ด์ค - customer service office (๊ณ ๊ฐ(๋)ย - customer)
์ด์ฉ๋ฉด ๋ณ๋ค์ด ๋์ ์ฌํ์ ๊ฐ์ ธ๊ฐ์ง๋ ๋ชฐ๋ผ Day Four: ย โ์ฌ๋ํ๋ผ, ํ ๋ฒ๋ ์์ฒ ๋ฐ์ง ์์ ๊ฒ์ฒ๋ผโ by ์ํ๋ ๋ ๋ ์์
***This is a great beginner/early intermediate level poem! ย The vocabulary is easy and the grammar is pretty straightforward. ย (I was super excited when I read it because for once I didnโt struggle to find out what it meant!)***
ํ๋ผ (hara): ย the imperative form of ํ๋ค (I found a helpful link explaining how to use ~๋ผ)
์์ฒ[๋ฅผ] ๋ฐ๋ค (sangcheo[leul] badda): ย to be hurt by something/someone
์ถค์ถ๋ค (chumchuda): ย to dance
๋ฐ๋ผ๋ณด๋ค (baraboda): ย to stare at/gaze
๋ ธ๋ํ๋ค (noraehada): ย to sing
๋ฃ๋ค (dudda): ย to hear/listen
์ผํ๋ค (il hada): ย to work
๋ (don): money
ํ์ํ๋ค (pilyohada): ย to need
์ด๋ค (salda): ย to live
๋ง์ง๋ง ๋ (majimak nal): last day
Sorry!
To those of you who might have noticed that I am not posting every day/every other day on this blog and my Korean blog, I just wanted to let you know that I am currently taking a three-week intensive learning course at my school and have had almost no free time to concentrate on languages. ย I will definitely try to get back in a study routine after the class ends next week!
โ์ด์ฉ๋ฉด ๋ณ๋ค์ด ๋์ ์ฌํ์ ๊ฐ์ ธ๊ฐ์ง๋ ๋ชฐ๋ผโ Day Three: ย โ๋ค์ ํ๋ ๋ถ์ด์ค๋ ๋ฐ๋โ by ๊น์๋
๋ค์ ํ๋ค (dajeonghada) = to be tender, warm, affectionate
๋ถ์ด์ค๋ค (buleo-oda) = to blow
๋ฐ๋ (baram) = wind
์จ๊ฒฐ (sumgyeol) = breathing, breath
๊ฐ๋ณ๋ค = to be light, soft, slight
์ค์ด ๋ณด๋ด๋ค (shil-eo bonaeda) = to send (perhaps more specifically, to load up and send)
์ค์น๋ค (seuchida) = to brush past/against
ํ๋๋ค (huidolda) = to whirl, spin, turn
ํ์จ (hansum) = sigh
๋ชฐ์ (mol-a) = altogether, in all
๋ด๊ฐ vs. ๋๋
Both ๋ด๊ฐ and ๋๋ are commonly used in everyday speech and both are used in reference to oneself. So how do we know when to use which?
[๋ด๊ฐ] is followed by verbs
๋ด๊ฐ ๋นจ๋ฆฌ ๋ค์์ด (I ran quickly) ๋ด๊ฐ ๋ง์ด ๋จน์๋ (I want to eat a lot)
[๋๋] is followed by adjectives
๋๋ ์ฌํ ์ข์ํด์ (I like traveling) ๋๋ ํค๊ฐ ํฌ๋ค (I am tall)
It is also important to note that unlike ๋ด๊ฐ, ๋๋ also has several forms such as: ๋์ or ๋์๊ฒ which refer to โme/mineโ and having something done โunto meโ respectively.
[What about when I use โamโ?]
Since โamโ is an adverb, it can be more difficult to discern on whether to use ๋ด๊ฐ or ๋๋, so it is definitely worth looking into and practicing!
๋ด๊ฐ ๋๋ณด๋ค ํค๊ฐ ์ปค (I am taller than you) ๋๋ ํ์ ์ด์์ (I am a student)
[Honorifics]
It is also important to know that both ๋ด๊ฐ and ๋๋ have honorific forms as well!
๋ด๊ฐ (inf) -> ์ ๊ฐ (frml) ๋๋ (inf) -> ์ ๋ (frml)
Hope this helps and happy studying!~
โ์ด์ฉ๋ฉด ๋์ ์ฌํ์ ๊ฐ์ ธ๊ฐ์ง๋ ๋ชฐ๋ผโ Day Two: ย โ๊ฟ๋ฐญ์ ๋ด๋ง์โ by ๊น์๋
***Note: ย Even though โ์ก์โ by ๋์ฐ๋ช is the second poem in the book, I decided to skip it because the poem is over a thousand years old and the vocabulary was very difficult for me--might do that with more poems in the book depending on how hard they are***
๊ฟ๋ฐญ (kkum batโ) = field of dreams
๋ด๋ง์ (bom maeum) = heart of spring
๊ตฝ์ด์ง๋ค (gub-ijida) = to turn, curve, wind (e.g. winding roads)
๋๋ด (doldam) = stone wall
๋๋ค (dolda) = to turn around, spin
๋ฌ (dal) = moon
ํ๋ฅธ๋ค (heureunda) = to flow, spill over, run into
๋ (nol) = a glow (in the sky)
ํ์ด์ (haiyan) = I think this is another spelling for ํ์ (white)
๊ทธ๋ฆผ์ (geurimja) = shadow
์์ค (eunshil) = silver thread
๋ชฐ๋ค (molda) = to steer, drive, navigate
๋ (ddo) = again, once more
