Guess what?
Now Bats can't get up anymore since yesterday evening, and lie down is only possible for him with painkillers. So back to the vet.
Is there a way I can donate money to get Sammy his workup? I'm in the US so I'm not sure how conversions work or what your veterinary costs are like but I have a spare 50 USD this month. I know its not a lot but I would like to help
Omg that's so incredibly sweet and generous of you, thank you so much for even offering!! 🙏❤️ Literally anything would help a ton! The blood test would be around 180-200€ (without the cost of the appointment at the vet itself which is probably another 50€ at least, I'll have to check).
I'm still not decided whether or not I'm going to do another sale officially, but let me know if you'd like some art for exchange, I'd love to give something in return! However if that's not what you're looking for I only have PayPal, which is [email protected].
Sammy is actually eating a bit better this evening, but our previous visits to the eye specialist also highly recommended this blood test, as his eye issues may be the result of something not functioning as it should. As things are currently it looks like I'll have to move his checkup appointment there to at least next month, as I think the blood test would be much more important right now 🙈 This dog has way too many problems at once
Sammy still isn't eating well even with meds nor generally doing too well :( I REALLY would like to have his blood tested, but atm I can't afford that. I'm also on the fence about trying to sell commissions, because I'm not doing so great either energy-wise. But it might be the smaller issue. Kind of afraid to try and fail, though, since I *already* had an art sale very recently for him and historically these get ignored more the more often you do them. Not sure what to do tbh :/ Will definitely call the vet again tomorrow to consider what options we have.
Sammy still doesn't eat, so we're going back to the vet. Otherwise he's a little bit better with the painkillers, but far away from good 😓
Also if nothing extra happens I'm pretty much out of vet funds for the month after today's visit, which makes me uncomfortable. I could still sacrifice my food money and hope I'll be able to sell some art or whatnot to replenish that, but ugh. Let's hope for the best.
Actually it seems to be a painful hip rather than stomach. He's getting painkillers over the weekend and we'll see how he's doing after that.
He didn't even sit up while at the vet 😣 it was that bad
A good thing however was that the vet found his back well muscled, considering his age 😅 so there's at least that.

He's had some massive stomach pains since the evening, so I called the emergency vet to ask if I can give him metamizol* to last us until tomorrow, and they told me how much and to give it very slowly so he won't throw up again. So far it seems to have worked at least to a noticeable degree, for which I'm grateful. Fingers crossed he finds a bit of rest now.
Going to cancel my own appointment and try to get one for Sammy instead, unless he's magically back to stellar in the morning.
*which I have on hand for my own migraines and which is always their go-to anyway with stuff like this - and because I would have to dish out about half of my current bank balance just to GET to the e-vet and back home, and then at least the other half to have him seen. Do you see the issue
Contemplating to call off my appointment tomorrow morning and try to switch it to next week if possible. At least if Sammy continues to not feel well.
Guess who got sick again this evening? orz
On Friday, June 19th, around 2am, my heart dog Vida had a pretty severe seizure… Kassaundra Burrow needs your support for Standing with Vida
Getting Vida the MRI she needs is going to be a big financial struggle, especially after the financial hit we already took this year from my car getting wrecked. Any shares or donations will be more appreciated than you can imagine.
Vida is scheduled for an MRI consult and MRI on July 15th & 16th at the Kansas State University Veterinary Hospital
Going the 8hrs out of state is significantly cheaper, and faster (places around here are booking into August) so I've adjusted the GFM accordingly
Vida's fundraiser is 24% funded and we have 11 days until her MRI - please share or donate if possible, it would be so so appreciated.
Uhhh Pukki's not right. Hopefully our vet can make some space for her tomorrow 😖

@wyrddogs I found this cute little keychain today and it made me think of you and Kermit even though it's brown and not black 😅 but I had to get it! And it even has a green collar and a little stubby tail!
I thought if you would like to have it I'll find a way to send it over to you some time? Let me know! :)
Groomed the top of his head and the ears a bit better and it's already much better and airier 👍 the rest will need to be done bit by bit to preserve his willingness to cooperate.
are you guys hearing about this dude working to developing a vaccine for cats that he's hoping would like. theoretically double their lifespans?
turns out i wasn't making that up, his name is Dr. Toru Miyazaki! he also wrote a book called "The Day Cats Live To Be Thirty", so cats are kind of his thing.
apparently, cats' kidneys tend to be the thing that takes them down, something about their bodies being unable to self-clean their kidneys, and the vaccine is supposed revitalize the body's ability to do just that. It would be very VERY fucking cool to have cats suddenly reaching 30 years of age be the normal thing.
As they age, almost all cats develop kidney disease, from which they eventually die. Just as in humans, kidney disease i
Dr. Toru Miyazaki’s AIM injection for cat kidney disease enters trials in 2025, aiming for a 2027 release. Greycoat Research supports the sc
whoa wait i actually read the articles and it's so much cooler than just that!!
dude cracked the case about WHY kidneys fail, across the board as far as i can tell. turns out there's a specific molecule whose job it is to attach to waste and signal macrophages to come eat it. it remains inactive in cats for some reason, but the molecule is still there. basically what he's done is found the switch to activate them. this will be profound not only for our domestic babies, but for big cats too - especially cheetahs!
although his research was focused on cats, it's already being used to develop drugs for humans too!
on top of that, since these molecules are tags for waste, this could also dramatically lower the rate of fatty liver disease, liver cancer, urinary crystals, rheumatoid arthritis, and even some neurological cases! like, they're hoping it may have an impact on parkinson's and alzheimers, but it DOES have an impact on stroke recovery. like. holy shit.
furthermore, he's insisting that the feline drug be affordable if and when it rolls out onto the market. he wants this to be something anyone can get for their cat!! idk how much sway he'll have over the human drug, but hopefully enough that it, too, won't be that expensive.
annnnnd in his research that he's still doing for the human side of things, he's found a potential link between this molecule and estrogen. in the 20,000 samples he's tested, women between ages 10 and 29 had the highest amount of this molecule present in their blood (a higher amount means Something Fucky is going on, essentially. There's a higher amount of waste the body is trying to clean out) but it drops down to be almost equal amongst men and women after menopause. it hasn't been looked into yet, but fuck, just the fact it's noted and known and probably WILL be looked into soon??? imagine if this is what leads to figuring out all the various ways the ovaries and uterus fucks with people and how to fix it. or even like, maybe there's something about estrogen that makes it work better. who knows! but it's rad the link is there to be researched :D
man just think, not only could our kitties start living longer, healthier lives, but just maybe dialysis will become as rare and obsolete as the iron lung is for people. what a badass Dr. Toru is!
"But I don't want to turn people into dinosaurs. I wanna cure kittie kidneys!"
Update: So they have done clinical trials and have submitted it for approval as of april 2026. They are expecting it to be available late 2026/early 2027

Corneas are better, so he finally could get rid of the damn cone after 4 weeks of permanently wearing it. Now he has a skin inflammation in his face instead 😔 so the journey continues.
His blood pressure was also back up high, so they doubled his med dose. If all goes well his next checkup appointment is in 4 weeks.
They would also like to have a blood test done to check his organ values, but I'll have to see later in the month if I have enough left to spare for that too 😣 would get this done at our regular vet tho, since they're cheaper.
