4.24 How they wear Ao Yem looks cute >< Ao Yem is super cute.
3.31 Cheongsam was quite feminist at first I would say, that many girls who went to school chose to adapt it since it somehow relates to the male clothing which was totally different from what Han-Chinese female used to wear. I drew Chunyan, and I know she doesn’t look like her because of the hairstyle lol. But that was one of the most popular hairstyles during that time. Woman’s hakama was also related to the education I think…?
What I found interesting about cheongsam is that when people see it, they would think that is and is the only Chinese traditional female clothing; but when you really think of Chinese traditional female clothing, cheongsam is not traditional enough to be called like that. It was born as a fashion last century inheriting the look of manchu female & male clothing and the western-style cutting because of the feminism and other western values. Maybe it counts nowadays hahaha.
The change & difference of male & female clothing by time attract me so much… hope that I get the time to draw more.
