Hurry Home to Tea: Open
“No, I can’t do it,” Mars seemed to say to the air, he looked stressed out, picking at his nail beds and every once in awhile wrapping his arms around his torso, “Don’t you know they’ll get me…they’re everywhere, you stupid bunny…” he seemed to jump, bristling at some unseen force, “I-sorry, you’re not stupid, I won’t say it again…” he backed into a wall and looked wildly around, shadow figures, they circled him, muttering in what he knew to be backwards talk, closing in on him, “NO!” he took off like a streak down the hallway and into the first closet he could get open, the growls of bandy-snatches outside the door, knowing that they had called them, he pressed himself against the wall and stared at the door, wide eyed as the sound of feet scampered around outside, “GO AWAY,” he held the door, bracing his feet against the door and holding the knob as it tried to turn in his hand, “I’m not doing it! You can’t make me! G’away!” he pulled tight against the doorknob, before it sprung open and he was thrown into the corner, he covered his ears with his hands and started screaming some kind of rhyme, “ Sisters and brothers, little Maid? There stands the Inspector at thy door:” his speech sped up as he shook his head between the block he had made with his hands around his ears, “Like a dog, he hunts for boys who know not two and two are four.“ he felt a hand on his knee and started screaming the rhyme louder,"Kind words are more than coronets, she said, and wondering looked at me, It is the dead unhappy night, and I must hurry home to tea.” he flinched away from the touch again, “STOP TOUCHING ME THEY CAN’T HAVE ME! I WON’T DO IT EITHER! THEY CALLED THEM! They…called…them…they’re there, I can’t…we can’t get away…I-tipped it,” he mouthed the last bit, finally looking at the person who’d came in…
Tarrant looked back into Mars face. He carefully lifted his hand from Mars. “Its going to be ok Mars. I won’t let them take you.” Tarrant had been passing by when he had heard Mars yelling from inside the closet. He couldn’t see what Mars was seeing but he believed it to be real. After all he saw things to sometimes.Â
