Donât be so hard on yourself. -splashes her- Liven up.
-kicks water at her- Then donât be so hard on me.
Oh no. Iâm so scared of imaginary scary pervs that are going to whisk me away and take advantage of me. -scoffs- Iâm fine.Â
Okay, sorry, I get it, Iâm being stupid.
I should just go. Sorry.
Are you being weird?
Probably, thatâs about all I do. -sits by the pool, dangling her feet in the water-
I just meant there was- I- well, somebody might- People can be creepy about swimming. And youâre prettier than me so itâs probably even more likely. -shrugs- Sorry. I just donât want anything bad to happen.
âDonât worry, I donât expect you to cook for me or anything. Iâm capable of doing that myself.â Naveen said, stuffing his free hand in his pocket. âI could make enough for you, too, if youâre interested. You know, as a way of saying thank you for showing me around.â He smiled warmly at the girl. âIâm Naveen, by the way. Whatâs your name?â
Well, at least he didnât think he was entitled to everything.  âSure, itâs this way,â Violet walk backwards a couple of steps, giving him a little motion to follow her, âHonestly most of what I do here is eat so I probably shouldnât accept your offer but... oh, thatâs not why Iâm in here though! Itâs just thatâs all that I can really think to do when I run out of ideas. Maybe Iâm just not very imaginative,â she shrugged, smiled a little awkwardly, âSorry, Iâm Violet.â
âBut this show is so boringâŠâ Roscoe turned around, flashing a sleepy expression at the woman. âWhy donât you go to sleep too? Dreams must surely be better than this place.â
Violet took a seat on the floor next to the couch, as it was becoming clear this guy wasnât moving any time soon, âIsnât it dangerous to just sleep where everyone can find you? I donât really want to be murdered. Even if it would make everyone love me.â She rolled her eyes, a little snarkier than usual just from her lack of sleep. She envied him how comfortable he seemed to be where anyone could see him.
Stop being a perv and jump in.
Thatâs... you have to be careful. People can be weird about it.
Yeah I lived on Kauai for most of my life. We had a lot of urban legends. A lot of them my friends and I made up. But, yeah I think I understand what you mean.
Whoah, are you famous? Can I ask that without being nosey?Â
Just the recurring themes - darkness, mirrors, fire, faces. Itâs really interesting. What sort of ones did you make up?
Itâs alright, I just- before I came here everyone I talked to always knew everything about me and itâs hard to remember most people here have no idea. My parents are famous, Iâm just kind of... there.
Oh no. I didnât take the girls out to go see it. I convinced everyone on the island that we had our own witch in the backyard. It was great. And youâve never been on a date? Is that a personal reason or should I start lining up the eligible bachelors here at the Clubhouse.
I think Blair Witch Project is definitely a movie thatâll stand for awhile.
The island? I love urban legends, like the really local ones that are specific to a certain area? Itâs just... really interesting how different places can share the same stories and have them just a little bit different.
I donât know, I just- everybody outside is so- and god, if the papers found out I was on a date- and that boy in here, he- I donât know. I guess dating isnât really an option for me.
I was seventeen, so it was pretty much a prime age to get girls all freaked out over the blair witch.
I was watching this theory on the movie though. And this guy was saying that the boys actually planned on killing the main girl and stuff like that. Pretty interesting take.
I never really got the appeal of taking someone on a date where theyâd get scared. I mean, if you both enjoy horror movies, go ahead, but if one of you is hating it? Iâve never been on a date though, Iâm probably being stupid. Sorry.
I love meta theories and things like that, and people really looking into a story to get every interpretation they possibly can. And movies that are actually good enough to be examined that closely without falling apart.
Yeah, I think itâs revolutionary for the genre. The whole marketing aspect alone. Everyone lost their shit back then.Â
I was about five so canât really comment on that one. And my parents arenât big movie buffs, let alone horror fans.
Iâm kinda spooked by that stuff. I guess I canât help you figure out a good movie to watch. I like the atmospheric Blair Witch stuff.
I love the Blair Witch Project! The camera techniques are so iconic, it totally changed the horror genre.
Iâm usually into more stills and that, but the film work is just... Itâs really good.Â
Tarrant nodded. âI understand. When I am working on possible hat ideas I have to have a true sketchbook and art pencils or I donât feel right.â He thought a moment before adding, âAnd tea.â He looked thoughtful. âI bet miss Namine has a camera you can use in the art room. She is an art theripest here.âÂ
The thought that maybe, just maybe, Violet could actually hold a camera in her hands again, and not one sheâd grabbed off a reporter in an effort to stop them from shoving it in her face... she beamed at Tarrant, her whole face lighting up with that one smile, âThatâd be an amazing. Iâll definitely ask!â
Naveen quirked a brow, noticing the way the girl tugged her sleeves over her hands. Was she nervous or something? Was she cold? It was cold in there. For a place with such a high rating on Google, you would think theyâd know to adjust the thermostat when the seasons changed. He hadnât spent hours researching mental rehabilitation centers just to show up and freeze his ass off. He shook his head, snapping himself out of his own thoughts.
âNo room service? Appalling.â He said sarcastically, shaking his head with a slight smirk. âI think food is the priority. Is there a kitchen? OrâŠ.a cafeteria?â
Violet probably shouldnât have felt as smug as she did about guessing exactly Naveenâs type - the type of boys who she met whenever her parents were invited to their celebrity gatherings and she tagged along, the type of boys who always had her ducking behind her brother so they wouldnât catch sight of her - but she did feel smug, and she wasnât proud of that. But the way he said cafeteria, like the thought of having to share with others was akin to eating dog doings! It didnât endear him to Violet in the least.
âThereâs a kitchen, itâs actually really nice. Just donât ask me to make anything for you,â Violet gave a little shudder, remembering her encounter with PJ, âI canât cook to save my life. Or anyone elseâs.â
What kind of scary do you like?Â
Honestly whatever?
But I love the dolls with the glass eyes and you canât tell if theyâre part of the evil or just an unrelated creepy for ambience. And any spooky little girls. Which probably says something about me, that I want to the kind of power that fear brings, but I think I just like the aesthetic.
Tarrant looked a little sad but quickly shrugged and smiled. âThats too bad. I think a fascinator style would look lovely on you. I really donât get much chance to work on my hats here not much call for them in here.â
He smiled a bit more when she mentioned wishing she could do some thing like that. âWe have an art room to do creative projects in.â
Violet ran a hand through her hair, considering the option. Her hair was really the only thing she liked about herself, the rest of her being too short and too pale and those dark circles under her eyes and a seeming unability to smile properly and... If she got caught up counting her flaws sheâd be here all day. But her hair, it was long and dark and shiny and wouldnât it look nice with one of those little hats or veils or something? But then she wouldnât be able to hide behind her hair, so she shook the thought off and wished she hadnât made Tarrant upset.
âI used to really like photography but I left my proper camera at home. Iâve got my phone but-â Violet shrugged, âItâs not the same, you know? You donât really feel that artistic when youâre just using your phone.â
Naveen turned when he heard the girl speak, eyeing her for a moment before flashing her his trademark crooked smile. âIs it that obvious?â He chuckled. âIâm looking for my room. And also some food. Could you help me out?â
When he smiled at her the urge to flee immediately became far more imminent. But what would he think of her if she just left as soon as he talked to her? Heâd think she was rude, thatâs what. Rude and awful and stupid. And probably ugly, but that wasnât really to do with her leaving. So she tugged her sleeves down over her hands, because sweater paws made her feel cute and feeling cute meant she felt brave, and tried to not freak.
âWell, um, which is the priority? âCause if you head to your room thereâs probably not going to be a banquet laid out. And thereâs no room service.â
âIts in pieces so you canât really fix it but I could ask for a new one. I think they are just afraid I will break it again.â He looked down.
His eyes were drawn to the shadowy placed in the room again. He really needed to go somewhere else before they got worse but he couldnât just bolt out of the room with the girl standing there that would scare her.
Violet picked at a loose thread on the very end of the her right sweater sleeve, âI think you should ask for a new one. Because itâd help you. You deserve to feel safe.
âSorry, thatâs obvious. Youâre not stupid, I shouldnât talk to you like that. Sorry. Are you alright?â
