What a year! A lot of crazy things happened in the world.
When 2016 started, I was still getting settled into a new home and attending a new school, where I’ve been learning a lot about art - anatomy, gesture, light and color, animation - all while continuing to work on my personal art and commissions.
As 2016 came to a close, I really started to feel like I was making great improvements in my skills. I can now light things realistically, and I am not overwhelmed or confused when it comes to anatomy. I can compose a page - not just draw something, but make it look good! I’m very happy with my progress.
I am finally able to bring my personal art (bug people) and my learned skills together, and apply what I learn at school to what I’m doing in my free time. That’s extremely cool. It is so great to make progress. I am so excited to continue learning and discovering and practicing how to draw, how to animate, and how to create an enthralling narrative.
I didn’t start drawing until I was 22 years old. Before then, I could barely draw anything. But look at me now! In 2017, realize that with time and effort, there is nothing you can’t accomplish. Nothing! Continue to find every possible way you can improve - with your skills, with your habits, with your relationships, and with how you treat others, and how you treat yourself.
2016 tempered you with fire; you’re sharper than you’ve ever been. In 2017, pursue excellence in all things. It is up to you! Treat others with grace and kindness, and treat yourself with love and discipline. Stay vigilant! Eat well, exercise, and get lots of rest. Always think of positive things to say. Work hard, then work even harder. Take a break, and then keep going.
I know you will accomplish great things!
