maybe they should’ve told them sooner, but there had been a worry that the danger wasn’t immediately over after the PROMISED DAY. now… now it was time. maes turns to the young man, giving him a serene smile–feeling oddly AT PEACE. he gives him a little salute. “yo.” it mirrors nearly the first time they’d met at the train station. he feels a PANG of guilt for keeping this information from him, from everyone. 

“yes, it’s me. lieutenant colonel –” there’s a pause. not even he realizes he has a new title. “brigadier general – ah, just call me hughes.” he laughs. “those titles can get wordy after a while.” he places a hand on the back of his head. then, he glances away. 

“i’m… SORRY, eddo.” maes frowns. “i was in bad shape for a long time, and i couldn’t be there to help you.” he places a hand on his side, where envy shot him. “i was lucky, but… it was decided that i needed to go into HIDING – i was in no shape to fight.” it’s a lot of information to throw at ed, too, but he feels like he needs to explain. “they needed to think i was dead, or they would’ve gone after elicia and gracia… i couldn’t let that happen.” he bows his head. “i’m sorry, for keeping you in the dark for so long.” 

            he could have sworn he thought he was dreaming. why else would he       be here ? instead, a rush of relief ran through him... HUGHES was alive...       and that was something he was extremely thankful for.

                ed couldn’t help but visit the brigadier general. he couldn’t help       but feel so guilty. he had dragged the other into his own problems and        the man got KILLED for it. the least he could do was visit him after all        of this was over. his arm was back, al was recovering in his new body.        he just wished that the man was here to celebrate with everyone else.

                  he didn’t seem to notice the other man that stood behind him.       half listening before the he heard the words of slight disrespect.
