Anna Chancellor in Christmas at the Riviera (3/3)
Merry Christmas!
Upcoming
Through neglect, I’ve managed to amass a rather long list of upcoming things you can watch Anna Chancellor in but have not been mentioned on this tumblr. Rectifying this now. Here goes:
Television: Celebrity Antiques Road Trip – Herself – Available Now
Anna appeared as one of the competitors in an episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip which is on BBC iPlayer at the moment. It’s basically four women in two teams driving around the English countryside in classic cars buying antiques with brief segues in local history. It’s delightful.
Audio Play: Northanger Abbey – Mrs Allen – Available Now
Audible have produced a full cast radio drama of Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, with Anna in the role as Mrs Allen, the wealthy chaperone of the heroine Catherine. The cast included Ella Purnell as Catherine and Emma Thompson as Jane Austen. It’s avaliable here.
Television: The Crown – Lady Rosse – 8 December 2017
It’s really hard to find any info about this but it appears Anna’s in the second series of The Crown playing Lady Anne Parsons, Countess of Rosse – Princess Margaret’s mother-in-law.
Television: Trust – Penelope Kittson – Janurary 2018
Trust is a new anthology series from Danny Boyle thematically about families and money. The first series covers the true crime story of the kidnapping and ransom of John Paul Getty III. Anna’s playing Penelope Kittson one of the (apparently many) women in a relationship with John Paul Getty (played by Donald Sutherland). The cast also includes Hillary Swank and Brendan Fraiser. It’s expected to air in the US in Janurary on FX (no dates for outside the US yet).
Film: The Happy Prince – Mrs Arbuthnott – 2018
An Oscar Wilde biopic, written, directed and starting Rupert Everett. The cast includes Colin Firth, Miranda Richardson, Colin Morgan and Joshua McGuire. It’s not clear what Anna’s role is, but worth noting Mrs Arbuthnott is the titular character in Oscar Wilde’s play A Woman of No Importance.
Film: The Revenger: An Unromantic Comedy – Carol – 2018
Romanic comedy about a guy who finds out his fiancée is plotting against him. Supposedly a subversion of the romantic comedy. Not clear who Anna’s playing at this point.
Film: Benjamin – Tessa – 2018
A film written and directed by Simon Amstell which has Colin Morgan playing a writer/director who about to premiere a feature. Again, there’s little about Anna’s role at this point. The rest of the cast includes Jessica Raine and Ellie Kendrick.
Television: Ordeal by Innocence – Rachel Argyll – Unknown
The BBC’s traditional Christmas Agatha Christie adaptation has the case of the murder of philanthropist Rachel Argyll (Anna’s character) reopened after the revelation her son found guilty for the crime (and subsequently murdered in prison) was innocent. The cast includes Bill Nighy, Luke Threadaway, Matthew Goode and Morven Christie. It was to air in the BBC’s Christmas schedule but unfortunately the cast also includes Ed Westwick and the BBC has shelved the series while multiple rape allegations against him are being investigated. It’s unclear if it will ever air.
Which not a topic I'd like to end this on, so if you’re now in need of a pleasant distraction, may I suggest Anna’s episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip. As mentioned earlier, it’s delightful.

With Great Pleasure & The Happy Prince
You can hear Anna along with Toby Jones performing readings in today’s episode of With Great Pleasure on BBC Radio 4 at 4pm. The show consists of readings of writing selected by the episode’s host Tim Smit (founder of the Eden Project). After airing, it will be available on BBC Radio iPlayer for 30 days.
Also, Anna is playing Mrs Arbuthnott in The Happy Prince, an Oscar Wilde biopic written, directed and staring Rupert Everett. It was filmed last year with no release date yet. Other actors involved include Colin Firth, Miranda Richardson and Joshua McGuire.
Everyone told me turning 50 would be awful, but I am loving it...For such a long time us women tend to be burdened by things; motherhood, career worries but then to find out, aged 50-plus, that I really like myself makes me feel utterly alive in a way I haven’t felt for a long time.

Anna was on The One Show yesterday, presenting a segment on the impact and legacy of Four Weddings and a Funeral. The episode is currently available on iplayer.
Anna Chancellor in This Beautiful Fantastic (which is out now in the US) (x)
Anna was on This Morning yesterday (starting 45 minutes in), discussing Love of My Life, Canada, bears and what she’s up to next - more of The Last Dragonslayer and Flowers.
Clip from Love of My Life
There’s also a much more detailed description for the film:
After a stormy first marriage to a cheating husband who left her for another woman, Grace (Anna Chancellor) built the perfect life: a solid second marriage to a good and faithful man (James Fleet), two well-adjusted and successful daughters (Katie Boland and Hannah Anderson), and a dream career as a Toronto architect. So when she finds out that she has a possibly fatal brain tumour she accepts her impending demise the way she lives her life, graciously and without fuss. At least she knows she has no regrets.
Until...
Her still tempting first husband (John Hannah), an award-winning novelist who wrote a tell-all bestseller about their marriage, arrives in the middle of the night vowing to win her back before she dies.
Still a rebel at heart, Richard is determined to prove that he is the love of her life. With only five days to go before the surgery that may kill her, she suddenly finds herself courted in her own home as her famous ex embarks on a campaign of seduction. Her husband Tom barely notices as he obsesses on his future as a widower.
As Grace struggles to keep her life on an even keel, she discovers that her daughters are secretly living lives of romantic and professional disaster. But how do you give your children a lifetime of wisdom in a handful of days? And has she really achieved any wisdom at all?
Things get even more complicated when the outrageous woman (Hermione Norris) who stole her first husband moves in, determined to stop Grace from having a final fling with the brilliant novelist they both loved.
But Grace doesn’t want a final fling – except maybe with her married co-worker (Greg Wise).
So who – or what - is the love of her life?
In what might be the last few days of her life Grace finds her orderly existence filled with temptation, questions, comedy, and chaos. Which just may be what she needs to bring her back to life before it’s too late.(x)
Anna Chancellor with Coco König in The Carer
There’s a new trailer and a US release date for This Beautiful Fantastic.
This Beautiful Fantastic will be in cinemas and video on demand on 10 March in the US. I haven’t found anything about a potential UK release date.
The film is a contemporary fairy tale about a friendship between a reclusive young woman (Jessica Brown Findlay) and her widower neighbour (Tom Wilkinson) who bond over gardening. Anna’s playing the heroine’s uptight & terrifying librarian boss.
Poster for Love Of My Life
This might come as a surprise to you, but it’s 1954 and women can be with child in public. We even have the right to vote.
