âYou think heâll just leave it there by the time he leaves? Nah, I think itâs like one of those â I canât lift this crate but a little girl can what is going onâ type of tricks and I intend to find out.â He was a man on a mission, and nothing was going to keep him from fulfilling it. âDoes it happen to be on a corner?â Honestly, from the description mentioned there were plenty of buildings that matched, such as the man mentioned but there always had been a house in mid-city that he could imagine himself living in. Not that that was to happen, since heâd most likely take over the farm house after his parents would be gone, unless his sister really wanted it. âSounds tough. Good luck with fixing it.â He could only imagine the horror the interior would be â most houses needed a touch-me-up, even in New Orleans. âI like both. Gabriel like the angel, but it sounds like something your parents would have abused when angry, so I get why. Iâd use Kai, but I like it more as a nickname than as a calling name, you know?â Shorter wasnât always better. Besides only people he was close to called him Kai, so he liked it enough that way. âNice to meet you too, Gabe. If you need equipment for the big fix, I got loads of em at the farm so feel free to come up there and borrow some instead of buying new tools. Sounds like a waste if you can leave it.âÂ
Gabe chuckled at the other manâs question, and glanced at the entertainer again as he tried to figure out what was the secret trick. âI donât know, maybe? I never really paid too much attention to those things.â He said, before answering the manâs question about his property. He nodded when the man asked if the house was on a corner. âYeah, it is on a corner, but itâs a very quiet area, honestly so itâs not annoying.â He said, trying to be positive about the old house. âThanks, Iâll probably need more patience than luck, Â but thatâs nice.â He joked, before introducing himself. The only people who called him Gabriel were his mother, her boyfriend, and other authority figures. From the moment he left Los Angeles at 18 years-old, people called him Gabe. When Kaidan commented on his name, mentioning his parents, Gabe chuckled. âYeah, Gabriel kind of reminds me of my mother scolding me whenever I got in trouble.â He laughed, playing along. âWow, youâre a farmer? What kind of farm?â He asked, pleased by the offer but mostly impressed by the farm mention. âThatâs pretty cool, also thanks for the offer, Iâll remember it. Even if for now, I have no idea what Iâm going to do with the interior. I suck at this type of thing, my assistantâs probably gonna take care of everything.â

Sawyer said nothing, instead focusing momentarily on the gnawing feeling within that she knew him, and it frustrated her beyond belief that she couldnât work it out. Either way, she was gonna have to leave it for further research and thought at a later time, instead partaking in friendly conversation â nothing was ruining her mood. âRight,â she nods, fingertips curling around her cup of coffee, despite the obnoxious New Orleans heat outside. âOh yeah? An actor, huh? Good for you,â she nods, pressing her lips into a smile before glancing down at his hand, taking it after momentary contemplation with a somewhat firm handshake â the same handshake she gave any other. âSawyer. Good to meet you.. again. We keep running into one another, huh? Youâd think NOLA was a small town by now.â
âWell, I tried acting when I was younger, but I only did a few scenes back in the days. It wasnât really my thing. Unless you have like incredible skills, if you know what I mean, you donât really last very long as an actor. My jobâs basically making sure people always have brand new content.â He paused, realizing he was talking fast and that the woman in front of him probably â not to say definitely â didnât care about his job. âBut you probably donât really wanna hear about that, so maybe Iâll shut up.â He said with a nervous chuckle. After the handshake, the woman introduced herself. âNice to meet you too, Sawyer.â He was still wondering where he had seen her before â other than the other time when he spilled her coffee â but doubted that he would remember. After all, maybe they had never met at all and she had a doppelganger somewhere? âYeah, NOLAâs a small town. Iâm relatively new here, but I already noticed how you constantly bump into the same people.â Â

⏠ âYeah if you could keep up with me,â came her continued tease, a sultry look in her hazel hues and a smirk curving her lips. âIâm not really worried, though how I am I to know if your stamina is still up to par? I suppose youâll have to prove that to me again,â the brunette mumbled against his lips, nibbling at them but not kissing him again before pulling away. Unknowingly, Cherisa had begun a bit of a cat and mouse game, playing with her meal before she started gnawing on it with the way she moved into him and touched him, teased Gabriel, then pulled away and wanted him to come after her. She never did like things to be too vanilla, too typical and usual, she liked heat and passion. That was the reason for her building up the anticipation and drawing out their roaming hands and foreplay. The brunette wanted to pull Gabe out of his shell and fray him at the edges, she wanted the man at the brink of his wants and desires needing to be sated. So as he followed, with her checking a glance over her shoulder to be sure, her smirk showing more in her gaze than on her lips, Cherry exposed more flesh. They were currently too far apart for her to see his pupils dilate with want and lust as his own gaze devoured what was exposed to him. She was standing at the foot of his bed and turning to face Gabe still just inside the doorway, when she tossed another tease his way. âWhat are you doing over there? Donât you want to be touching me still? Or better yet â- me touching you?â

Indi turned to face her counterpart, taking her a moment or two of analysing his features before remembering why he looked so familiar. âOh, heyâitâs Borat, right? I remember you,â she smirked, shaking her head some as she arched a brow, deliberately giving him a once over. âI almost didnât recognise you with all your clothes on.â A mischievous smile was suddenly planted on her features as she turned to look at the window display once more, furrowing her brow as he offers suggestions. âGood to know Iâm not the only one.. the blind leading the blind. Butâthat sounds nice? I mean, Iâm not really sure what her style is per say, but.. I know I want to get her something meaningful, you know? Not just any old present.âÂ
Gabe grimaced when she called him Borat. Well, he must have expected this type of comment after his attire at the summer party. âWell, Iâm glad you do. I would have been a bit disappointed if you didnât, with such a costume.â He joked, chuckling when she added that she almost didnât recognize him with all his clothes. âYeah, itâs something I get told a lot, in very different contexts.â He said, looking away with a thin amused smile drawn on his lips. He had suggested her a few ideas, even if he was not exactly the best at gifts. Usually, he asked someone to take care of it for him. He nodded at Indianaâs explanation and her dilemma, and truly hoped that it would never happen to him. âWell chains are usually pretty normal. Theyâre a classic, because they look delicate and cute. But you could always get her one of those Pandora bracelets with charms that you have to buy separately?â

⏠ âItâs just?â came her rhetorical query. Shaking her head, she continued speaking to keep him from attempting to answer a question that wasnât true in itâs form. âJust stop overthinking everything. Youâre killing possibilities that way. Just let it be,â the brunette nearly pleaded. It wasnât to get her way, she simply wished he would make things a little easier on himself, whichever way he chose to go about it when it came to the two of them. There was some level of relief washing over her as Cherry discovered the way Gabe felt and what he was wanting, even if it was difficult and scary for him to verbalize. It was nice to know that what you had been wanting was reciprocated in some way â- they wanted to be with each other, in their own version of what being together meant. It seemed the desire was the comfort and security of having someone, someone where a mutual care was shone, yet it didnât feel suffocating. Maybe another shot at this would be even better now? Theyâd grown, matured, learned from mistakes and Cherry inwardly smiled at the thought that maybe they would start heading in that direction. âNo, not for nothingâŚâ she repeated. The half assed attempt to leave was maybe more of some subconscious action at work. After Gabe had proven how easy she was to leave in the past, there could easily have been a part of her that needed to see and feel him fight for this a little. It wasnât much, just the bit of security that she could rest a bit assured. Â
Hearing him agree that they could make it work, that theyâll find a way, Cherisa breathed out a contented sigh. No radical change was expected, the brunette knew patience and needed it herself, but it was a happy feeling to know that there would be some progression forward. The blond kissed her and she kissed him back, her hands wandered and explored territory tamely in a refamiliarizing way. His fingers moving from her hair to the bare skin of her arms caused a small shiver to move down her spine and her flesh erupt into a chill. She released a small sound into his mouth; pleased, contented, and enjoying. Unable to hold back from showing how much she liked the way he couldnât keep his mouth off of hers, how much she enjoyed the taste of his tongue and lips, and the feel of his hard sculpted frame under her touch and pressed against her. âYou still have more clothing on you, Gabe,â Cherry teased back, a gleam in her hazel hues, telling him not to count the chickens before they hatched. âYou should show me,â the brunette agreed. âWeâre going to need a place to cuddle up and sleep when itâs all said and done, and I donât think this couch is that comfortable.â His grip on her ass pushed her forward into him a little more, her hips pressing against his lower pelvis. Cherryâs gaze flickered up, heated and wanting, feeling what was between them. She wet her lips after he kissed the corner of her mouth and she stepped with him as they made movement towards the couch. Carnal instincts and passions were kicking in, she pressed and moved herself against his groin, a soft hum sounding from barely parted lips as she created a little pleasurable friction between their bodies. Her stance shifted, her weight moving from one leg to the next, that familiar wanting tingle between her thighs intensifying.
With his tongue slipping into her mouth just after he snatched swollen well kissed lips and his hand moving under her dress, caressing the soft warm flesh then teasing her pantyline, Cherisa moaned into his mouth. She pressed and curved her body into him and his touch. âYes, touch me,â she purred in a whisper. Her chuckle was a sultry sound, low and gritty with the lust beginning to take full control of her body. âI missed it too,â the brunette cooed back, pressing her lips to the edge of his jaw. She grazed her teeth then soothed the burn with her tongue and lips as she felt the heat of his breath against her ear, shuddering with pleasure as he nibbled on the lobe. âMmmm, I can, babe.â Her lids were half lidded as Gabe paused and looked at her, heâd pulled her closer with a grip and lift of her thigh, parting her legs enough for him to be pressed between. His hand was teasing her under the skirt of her dress and Cherry sank her teeth into her bottom lip as her own hand slipped between them to grope and palm Gabriel through his jeans. Lids immediately fell shut as his lips found hers again, she kissed him back and opened her mouth to welcome their liplock even deeper, while popping the button and letting down the zipper to his pants. Cherry slipped her hand inside and found the shape of him through his boxers, slow stroking him through the fabric, and pulling up her shoulder to let Gabriel move the strap of her dress down off her shoulder. With a step back, she broke the kiss and took his hands, âLetâs go to your bedroom.â She remembered the way with the little tour earlier and only steps away from the door, Cherry was wrapping them up together in a heated kiss and groping wandering hands as they thudded together against the wall next to the bedroom door. A small chuckle bubbled up her throat, she bit and tugged on his bottom lip, and pushed his jeans down off his hips. âDo you think you can keep up, baby?â she teased and pulled away from him completely, torturing him from touch to nothing in seconds. There was a smirk hanging on her lips as she pulled her dress off, now leaving them both in just their underwear, and stepped through the threshold into his bedroom, curling her finger for him to follow.
Gabe sighed and shrugged. She kept insisting and obviously wanted to know why it was so difficult for him, but maybe she was right and he was overthinking everything as always. He needed to forget all the eventualities, what could possibly go wrong and just enjoy. He missed Cherisa, he missed their time together as an almost-couple, before he ruined everything. That time was so much easier, and funnier. The truth was that Gabriel feared to be alone, and since their breakup he had never felt more alone even if he met tons of people all the times because of his job. If at first, he had tried to hook up with every girl on his path to forget about her, now he was much calmer, and didnât really sleep with random girls like he used to. He really wanted to believe that maybe this time it would work with Cherry, and that he wouldnât disappoint her. When the brunette repeated his words, he smiled slowly, feeling a little bit nervous before walking to her. He would probably need to prove her that he deserved her trust, this time, after what he had done the last time. He could understand why, and wouldnât complain. What mattered was that they would make it work. They didnât know how yet, but they would find a way.
Gabe kissed her, and she kissed him back, Cherisaâs hands finding their ways on his sculpted chest, making him grin. His fingers in her hair moved to her arms, caressing them softly, and he felt her body shivering under his touch. After she managed to take off his shirt, Gabriel teased her, kissing her again. He wasnât surprised to hear her agree to see his bedroom, at this point, and he smiled when she mentioned that they would cuddle and sleep there. âIâm sure youâll find a way to undress me quickly. Youâre pretty good at this.â He said with a wink, before adding. âIâll show you the bedroom.â Although he said that, his focus was mostly on her butt, and on her mouth. He could feel her hips grinding against him, driving him crazy as they headed towards the couch, his legs bumping into the armrest. He had barely noticed it, too busy kissing Cherry, his tongue slipping into her mouth and his hand under her dress, caressing her thighs and then sliding his hand against her panties. The reaction was immediate, and he pressed his lips against hers when she moaned, following her instructions, and teasing her slowly when she asked him to touch her, rubbing his palm slowly against the smooth fabric of her underwear. He could tell it felt good by the way her body reacted, and how she purred and moved against him. When his lips moved to her ear, he felt her teeth and then her tongue and lips on his jaw. It didnât hurt, but he had paid attention to her words and was happy to hear that something else was reciprocal again.
He pulled her closer, his hand remaining under her skirt, teasing her more until Cherisa decided to have her revenge, her own hand slipping between them, groping Gabe through his jeans. At first, it wasnât too impressive, and Gabe leaned in to kiss her again, and it seemed to encourage her since quickly, he felt the button of his pants and the zipper going down before her warm hand groped him through his boxers. He let out a muffled moan, before taking off a strap from Cherryâs shoulder. Suddenly, the kiss that seemed to have no end stopped, and Gabe looked at her in confusion when she held his hands, probably to make sure that he would stop touching her. He grinned at her suggestion, and licked his lips before the brunette leaded the way to the mastersâ bedroom. Quickly, they were kissing again, hands wandering on each otherâs body, and before they could notice it they had hit the wall next to his room. Gabriel laughed in amusement and raised his brows when he felt his jeans falling on the floor, leaving him in his boxers. Raising his brows, he looked at Cherry and chuckled at her question, watching her as she pulled away from him. âIf I can keep up with you? Are you really worried?â He teased, stepping into the bedroom to catch a glimpse of the dress falling off her thin frame. She wanted him to follow her, and of course he did, smiling in amusement at the small game, noticing that she was close to the bed. He realized that since he had moved in New Orleans, nobody had slept in that bed with him. He tossed away the thought, after all was it really that important?
It wasnât long for Gabe to get into the bedroom and steal her another long and passionate kiss, his left hand travelling to her back to undo her bra while his right one remained on her butt. Nibbling on her bottom lip, he took off the bra and left it on the floor, his hand quickly travelling to cup her bare breast. âI think itâs fair now, donât you think?â He teased, kissing her lips furtively, his hand groping her butt through the fabric of her underwear. âYou know I lied, youâre the most beautiful girl I know.â He muttered, his lips locking against hers, forcing her mouth open as a tactic to distract her. Pushing her on the bed, Gabriel joined her quickly on the mattress and his hands found hers, pinning her to the bed. He smiled, and leaned in to kiss her. His mouth quickly deviated to her chin, and then her throat, before reaching her chest, and soon his wet tongue and lips were teasing her nipples. His plan was to take his time, after all they had their entire night, and of course he doubted that Cherry would really mind spending the night having wild sex instead of watching horror movies and playing Ouija. His hands let go of hers, and during a short moment, Gabe glanced at Cherisa, his hazel eyes meeting her as he reached for her underwear, with the intention of pulling them off. âIâll let take care of my boxers, I promise.â He winked, his fingers pulling on the elastic band.

Gabe Miller
âThatâs a fair point. Iâm not even going to argue with that.â It wasnât like he was going to stand here any day soon tricking people with coins. âThough now I kind of have to google how he did it. Itâll bother me not knowing, you know? You know.â California â Kaidan had been a few times. One time with friends, a few times with his family when he was younger. Heâd like to live there but he felt like he wasnât quite ready to live in California. New Orleans was the place to be, he doubted heâd leave anyway. âReally? What place is it? I might know it.â And help out, but he figured itâd be weird offering his help to a stranger. Although he kind of just asked him for his address â as if that wouldnât send the wrong message. âGabe Gabe? Or Gabriel Gabe?â Right now he really had to start thinking before talking, and almost immediately took the manâs hand, hoping to distract him with the handshake. âIâm Kaidan. Nice to meet you, Gabe.âÂ
Gabriel laughed when the man admitted that he would have to google how the magician had done his trick. âHe probably glued it to the sidewalk, or something like that. Thatâs usually how they do it.â He said, a smile hanging at the corner of his lips. He wasnât really uncomfortable at the other manâs question about his place, after all he didnât consider the old house like his home, and the thought that maybe the stranger knew something about the previous owners â aka his mother and his grandparents, previously â was interesting. Maybe he could ask him a few questions, if it was the case. âItâs an old house in Mid-City. Straight out of the seventies, with a big backyard and a pool so I shouldnât complain about the exterior too much, but the interior is a nightmare. But there are probably tons of houses like mine.â He laughed, before grinning at the manâs question on his name. âGabe as in Gabriel. I prefer Gabe, though. Gabriel is very formal, I donât like it.â He said, shaking his hand and memorizing the otherâs name when he introduced himself. âWell itâs nice to meet you too, Kaidan.â Â

⏠ âWhy not go there?â Cherry argued, though her tone was soft and almost quiet. âI donât understand why itâs a shameful thing to say or admit, especially when Iâm feeling the same way, and now also being made to feel ashamed for it.â She missed everything, from the simpler actions like kissing and cuddling, feeling free to hug him at any time, to the great and fun sex life they once shared. There were times she had wanted to hold his hand, something to just feel close and connected, something uncomplicated and shouldnât be bad between friends. However, the brunette always held back for the fear of how heâd react and how heâd take it. Cherisa wanted to feel some security between them, theyâd been close and up and down for five years, they were clearly dedicated to one another so it didnât make sense. âDoes it help to know that I want those things too? That I want to be kissing you again, cuddling with you again, that I want to be held by you again? I want to have sex with you again and share a bed, and I hate that I have to hide it or that youâll go running screaming from me if I admitted these things to you.â It was difficult to find the right words or put her thoughts and feelings together in an eloquent manner when in the current moment things seemed unrest and her lips still burned from having been pressed to his. Cherry simply wanted to be close again and wanted all the awkwardness between them to be let go.
The thing was that Cherry didnât want to leave and her feet not moving from the spot she stood after retrieving her sweater was a sign of that. Her eyes met his when he called to her, and she felt stupid and childish for wanting to escape and run away but it hurt to constantly be pushed away. It wasnât fun to be led on with words then see Gabe make a face of displeasure when she touched him. The brunette didnât expect that Gabe would stop her from leaving, her head tilted back just a little as he approached and she looked up to maintain eye contact. If possible, she wanted to see it in his eyes. She fumbled for a moment, unsure what to do with her empty hands once he took her sweater away, an action that answered unspoken questions. âI just want you to be honest with me,â the brunette confessed. âYou tell me things, you actions speak aloud, but then you push me away and looked pained when I touch you. Do you understand how that feels?â He was standing so tall and Cherry was feeling so small before him, and his revelation lifted somber eyes to his own. It bothered her greatly how much she wanted to latch onto the words he so seemed to be heartfully expressing, yet that fear had been planted in the back of her mind, after so many time in the past of his actions not showing the words to be true, that maybe he didnât mean them. She sucked in a deep breath at his demand of her to stay, it came across so strong and for some reason it filled her with some hope that he was broad shouldered blocking the proverbial doorway. âI donât really want to leave â- Iâve missed you too and I really donât understand why we canât repair. I know it would take time and patience but weâve got five years between us showing just that. If we canât find a way or a want to let each other go then we should make it work in a way that suits us.â Cherry almost felt dizzy with how much her heart was racing, the pulse pounding in her ears was growing louder and louder as her nerves coursed the anxiety through her veins. There was always the fear of saying too much and scaring off the flighty male, however, at this point, despite the possible result, she felt it best to just put it out there.
As his large hands cupped the delicate structure of her face, Cherry stepped just a little closer, letting her lids fall shut over hazel hues as his lips crashed to hers tenderly. A soft hum vibrated up her throat and moved through their lips as each set embraced the others when his fingers combed into her dark silky tresses and seemed to clutch onto the strands. The sound effects of their kissing began to fill the old living room, her sucking and grazing her teeth on his bottom lip as he pulled back and readjusted his approach. She parted her lips and opened her mouth with ease as he commanded so with his actions, and her palms found residence on his solid chest, slowing moving down to his abdomen with fingers bumping along the muscles and tendons he had sculpted to perfection, stopping when her fingertips bumped at the waistline of his jeans. Angling her head to the side, Cherry slipped her tongue into his mouth, letting it glide along his own wet muscle, and her arms wrapping around him as the kissing continued with each not seeming to want to pull away from the other. When the liplock did break for some words to be mumbled, her lids opened slowly to reveal dilated pupils and she looked upon him with a half lidded gaze. âYouâre doing what you want to, ba â-â The rest of her muttered words were sealed into her mouth as his lips stole hers again, and there was no hesitation in returning the liplock that was growing in passion and want. Her open hands on Gabeâs back fisted the white tshirt he was wearing and began pulling the garment up, breaking the kiss long enough to pull it over head and return to his lips as she tossed it aside. Cherry stepped into him, hands exploring bared flesh, and moving them back towards the couch.
Because we both know whatâs going to happen if we go there, Mandi. He thought, his gaze on her telling a lot on what was on his mind right now. âI donât want you to feel ashamed for it, you donât have to⌠We both donât have to feel ashamed, itâs justâŚâ He couldnât explain how it was so complicated. After all, it wasnât really complicated. He was only making things difficult because he was afraid, as always. He had always been terrified of what could possibly happen, like rejection or a potential breakup if they ever caught feelings and got together for real. He knew that realistically, this would never happen. Maybe a few years ago, but not anymore. He couldnât answer her question at first when she asked him if it helped to know that she wanted the same things as him. They both wanted their old relationship back. They missed acting like a couple, but not being a couple. It could have made absolutely no sense at all to anyone else, but for Gabriel, it was completely logic. âAt least now I know that I wonât be doing all of this for nothing.â He replied, rushing to meet her as she was heading to the door, ready to leave. He didnât want her to leave, not now. They needed to talk, and they had planned an entire weekend together. She had no excuse to leave, especially since she had come here with his car.
She didnât protest once he grabbed her sweater and put it away on a chair, and Gabriel listened when she answered his question. It was an honest one, a desperate one. He didnât know what to do anymore to fix things between them. He wanted it so desperately, but it seemed so difficult. At her demand, his eyes lowered. She wanted him to be honest. He hid a lot of things from her already, and wondered if it wasnât too late. Chewing on his bottom lip, he was terrified when he revealed her what was on his mind. How he screwed up when he dumped her, how he felt guilty for hurting her like he did, how he regretted everything he did, and mostly how he wished he could fix things. He hoped that she would listen to him and would agree to stay. Gabe wasnât ready to face another four days or more of silence. Her voice reasoned in the room, and his heart skipped a beat when he heard that she didnât really want to leave. She was right, they could not possibly not repair their relationship. They could make it work, one way or another. âIâm sure weâll find a way.â He said, before cupping her face after a moment of hesitation, and finally kissing her again, a longer, deeper kiss. Much more enjoyable than the last one, the kind of kiss he missed dearly. He felt her hands moving slowly on his chest, lowering to his jeans, and his heart started beating faster. His fingers intertwined in the dark long dresses loosened their grip, and slowly his hands moved to her arms, brushing them softly as he felt her digitals traveling on his skin, now on his back. She was driving him crazy, but he was trying to keep a little bit of self-control, for some reason he needed to show her that it wasnât another game to get her in his bed. The kiss only broke for a quick moment for him to let out a small comment and a barely audible chuckle, to which Cherisa attempted to respond, but Gabe cut short to her sentence, kissing her again. She didnât seem to mind the interruption, and soon the blond man felt her hands pulling on his shirt, and let her break the kiss with a certain amusement, helping her a bit when she took the white t-shirt off him. âIâm kinda disappointed you didnât tear it off.â He teased, smiling when she stepped into him, shivering when he felt her hands on him. âHow about I show you the bedroomâŚâ He suggested, taking a step back in direction of the couch, on of his hands reaching for the back of her dress, cupping her butt through the fabric. âI donât know why, I feel it could be a good thing.â He said, kissing the corner of her lips.
His mouth slowly deviated onto hers, and he slipped his tongue in her mouth without warning, his free hand grabbing her thigh and pulling her closer as he leaned against the arm of the leather couch, kissing her with the same fervour, his hand groping her now under her dress, fingers brushing against her silky-smooth skin and teasing the elastic of her underwear. âI miss just kissing you for no reason, other than because your lips taste so damn good.â He muttered, sucking on her bottom lip before his mouth travelled to her ear, his teeth nibbling on her earlobe. âI canât believe you still drive me crazy like this, baby.â He blurted the pet name without thinking, as if it was natural, at this point it was pretty pointless to hide that he missed their old habits and wished things would return to how they originally were before he decided to ruin everything. His lips left his earlobe and he looked at her in the eyes this time, looking serious. It was hard to hide that he wanted more than a make out session and a serious talk by now, but he had to stay rational, even if with his hand on her underwear, under her dress, it was pretty hard to stay rational. Taking a deep breath, Gabe licked his lips, his gaze lowering to her pout, tempted to kiss her again and forget about everything else. He opened his mouth, and closed it. He didnât need to ask her if she was sure of what she was doing. It was obvious that she knew what was going on, just as he did. He leaned in again and reached for her mouth, his free hand moving to her shoulder, teasing her dress straps. Â

⏠ The second kiss was better, there wasnât much more response than the previous, though it was the way she felt him sigh into the liplock that had her lips remain on his for the time being. He was clearly anxious and there was a part of her that was feeling bad again, as it was the same thing over and over again. Words did not match action, in fact, his lack of action despite the things he had said was something Cherisa was definitely considering. The squeeze his hand implemented on her thigh did little to encourage, she couldnât make out in the short amount of time if it was due to him being tense or if it was him somehow signaling he liked the exchange. It was becoming to be impossible to get her hopes up anymore and when she pulled away from his lips, there a was brief temptation to ask him why he said he wanted to kiss again if he really didnât mean it. Was he playing her? It sure was feeling like it a bit. When they made eye contact, the brunette wasnât aware what was expressed in hers, though her lips curved slightly in a small smile.
âShouldnât be?â she queried, even if she had already accepted that she should have just stayed on the floor and they just watch the movie like a friendly boss and employee. It was such a weird yo-yo with him, and she wondered what was so wrong with her in his eyes. Cherry had answered his question, curious as to what he was thinking about and why he was being a little cryptic. She knew heâd be secretive if he really wanted to be, so her asking could go either way but when he grimaced at her squeezing his leg she pulled her hand away and sat up a bit. Leaning into the back of the couch with her shoulder and still looking at him, having put a bit of space between them. At his answer, Gabe replying how she had assumed he would, all she did was slow nod her head. âRealize what?â she asked, her tone almost flat, knowing sheâd get nothing for an answer. It was hard to have conversation if the other spoke in hidden ways and it was leaving her to guess that maybe there was some woman back in Sac that he had feelings for and was second guessing his bachelor life. Then Cherry figured she would have at least known of such woman and she shrugged it off, clearly he was speaking to get something out rather than actually talking about anything. âSee I told you there were ghosts. Theyâre messing with the night, arenât they,â came her reply, mumbling the last bit more for herself. When Gabriel finally confessed, she wasnât sure how to take it. Did he mean it? Or was this just another thing being said that he would flip on a few moments later? He seemed nervous getting the words out, with how quickly they were spoken and the way he bit his lip. Cherry was on the verge of asking him what âmake it right this timeâ means when the words died on the tip of her tongue as Gabe suddenly came in for a kiss. And he kissed her, demanding her mouth to open, her tongue brushed his lip and she kissed him back. Pressing forward just a little, into the liplock, into his mouth, but it was over too soon with him pulling back and her left blinking momentarily heavy lids at him while she licked her lips.
âRight,â Cherry responded, covering her mouth with her fingers as she turned away and got to her feet. She fixed and straightened out her dress, her heart was thudding in her chest and she could feel her pulse in her ears. Letting out a sigh as she rubbed a hand over her face, hazel hues caught sight of the sake bottles on the table and she didnât even have that as an excuse since she hadnât drank that much. Though, she figured there was Gabeâs get out of jail free card. Turning this way and that as she looked around, locating her sweater and grabbing for it, Cherry figured this was the time for her to make her exit. She didnât want to wait for the next round of rejection to come, and let out a small breath when her eyes found his again. Considering how this always went, she was feeling it coming on and after the few kisses she just didnât want to take anymore of it tonight. âI should probably go, huh? Dinner was pretty good and the movie,â she paused and swallowed, âI should let you rest or do whatever it is you do at night around here.â
Gabriel closed his eyes at her interrogation. He didnât expect her to ask what he meant, and now that he needed to explain her why he shouldnât be missing those things, it seemed a little bit awkward. âI missed kissing and cuddling with you⌠And other stuff too. The kind of things I shouldnât be missing anymore. Donât make me go thereâŚâ He said quietly, licking his lips. He didnât need to tell her again how he would have sex with her, especially now that his hand was on her thigh and that they were cuddling and had kissed twice, thanks to her. He let her take her distance but wondered why she was doing that, without daring to asking her. Gabe swallowed nervously, already regretting his question and bringing up such a serious topic. She asked him what he had realized, and like most of the times, Gabriel joked instead of replying with honesty. But this time, he added the truth, because he knew that he couldnât lie about it for so long. She would need to know someday, after all. He didnât let her talk and kissed her immediately after admitting that this time he wanted to make things right. He knew that she would ask him questions again. Cherry always asked questions, and although he didnât mind and even thought it was funny, most of the times, he didnât want to tell her that he had no idea how he would do it.
The kiss ended abruptly, just as fast as it had begun, and now Gabriel was trying to avoid the topic he had brought up himself again. It was a natural mechanism to run away, everything terrified him, feelings-related, and was afraid that things could possibly go wrong if he proceeded to tell Cherry how he truly felt about whatever was going on between them. Of course, he should have known better, and should have expected her to react how she did, standing up and heading to the door, ready to exit the room. âMandi.â He called her, looking at the brunette as their eyes met. She was standing in the middle of the room, and he felt his heart breaking, feeling stupid for pushing her away again. He listened as she spoke, and stood up, walking to meet her, picking up her sweater and putting it back on the chair where it used to be. âCan you just tell me what you want me to do?â He sighed, sliding his hand in his hair, trying to hide that it was trembling, and bit his bottom lip. He was looking confident, but inside he was scared to death. âI screwed up, I dumped you like a fucking idiot, I did everything to stay away and made shitty excuses to keep you away, but I missed you like crazy. You have no idea, it drives me nuts. âHe let out a nervous chuckle and locked his gaze into hers again. âI donât want you to go, Iâll do whatever the fuck you ask me to do but I swear youâre not going anywhere, not after what just happened. Weâre not done here.â He said, shoving his hands in his jeans pockets nervously. He needed a smoke, but it was everything but the time for this right now. Pulling out his hands, he looked at Cherisa again, and sighed, leaning in and cupping her face in his hands.
His lips met hers softly, and his fingers dug into her hair, intertwined into the long dark strands of hair as he pressed his mouth onto hers. His heart was pounding in his chest and he was almost sure by now that she could hear it, but he didnât care. He lightly pulled away, only to kiss her again, parting her lips to nibble on her bottom one. His warm mouth shut on hers, and he took a deep breath, his hands in her hair abandoning them to reach for her arms, brushing her soft skin. There was no way he was letting her go anywhere tonight. âYouâre making me do insane shits, you know that.â He muttered against her lips, kissing her more. He couldnât recall begging anyone to stay, or caring enough for anyone to be really worried they would never forgive him. She was the one who had him running, in this entire story, and it was quite ironic now that he realized it.
indianaharper:
âHeyâuh,â she smiles at the other standing close by, gesturing towards the display of the jewellery store. Sheâd been standing there with a coffee in hand, brown paper bag with a muffin in tow, staring blankly at the jewellery in front of her. What in the world was she going to buy her? Of course, she had her mom to ask, but, when opportunity arises âŚÂ âWhat would you get your sister whoâs.. way more fashionable than you are for her birthday? Iâm the worst at giving presents,â she states, thinking back to all the hand made presents sheâd made growing up, scrunching her nose. They werenât terrible, but the two were adults now and making her a handmade, knitted scarf probably wasnât the best idea. And out of utter nervousness at the notion of admitting that to someone, she started rambling. âNot that I donât want to, Iâd rather give than receive any day. I justâI never know what to get people.âÂ
Gabriel was heading to the jewellery store with a box in hand, full of old necklaces and earrings that he doubted were worth anything, but he was curious and had a lot of time on his hand â as always. He wasnât expecting to run into anyone there, after all who exactly hung out at a jewellery store? Certainly not him, but today was one of those exceptions. He was about to enter the shop when a familiar silhouette caught his attention from outside the store. He walked inside, and when he made sure she noticed him, waved. âHey, long time no see.â He joked. It wasnât exactly true since he had seen her at Bootyâs a few days back. Walking to meet her, he looked at the display in front of her, and knitted his brows into a thoughtful frown at her question. âWell, I donât have a sister, so thatâs already a terrible start.â He laughed, looking at the jewellery in front of him. When Indi added that she didnât know what to get to people in general, he smiled. âIâm pretty bad at gifts too, unfortunately. But I can try to help?â He offered, pointing at the display. âYou could get her some personalized chain with her name on it. Itâs a little overworked but itâs a cute gift.â

⏠ Within the span of time from when Gabriel had showed up at her place, to where they were now, him on the couch and her on the floor, things had gone up and down too often. Granted, until the last gesture where he physically pulled away from her after an accidental brush of his hand against her leg, the up and down pulse lines were relatively small. She had cracked a bit, had enough of the ridiculousness, it all seemed like too much of a game that frustrated her that she couldnât get ahead of. His actions and words would flip like a switch, one minute flirting and being suggestive with her and the next he was pulling away as though he was repulsed. Cherisa knew the resolve to this wouldnât be easy or come quick, hell, theyâd made it through five years of just about everything between them, but the problem was now that the brunette wanted to find a balance. Often questioning why things couldnât be like how they had been before, when they were together in their own unique way. They were friends with a certain level of intimacy, and she wanted to be comfortable like that again. If she was completely honest with herself, Cherry missed being close with Gabriel, she missed the physical side of it.
When he ignored her murmur of his name and said he didnât want to disappoint again, her heart sank a little. That feeling was something the brunette knew all too well â- being a disappointment. Her motherâs words still echoed in her head sometimes:
Why wonât you let me be happy? Stop ruining my relationships and running men off. Your father left because he didnât want you. I kept you, so why do you have to be ungrateful?
The woman was a classic case of a narcissist, something that Cherry wouldnât come to understand until she was older and run off from the house at just sixteen years old. It all effected her greatly, creating this void and vacuum of a loveless and rundown life. She became this monster, seeking love and affection in great quantities, always asking and wanting for more and more. The need almost seemed like she had craved to be consumed and she was sick with it all, and the most dangerous thing happened â- she got what she asked for, she got what she demanded from the world without realizing she had sold her soul to the devil to obtain it. Cherry found love and it was consuming, possessing, and the cost was her life. The steering wheel being yanked, his foot pressing the gas, and the car bursting through the railing were images that haunted the brunette and they were memories that she could never forget. She doesnât remember the actual crash or that in the ambulance that her heart stopped and she had gone for nearly three minutes. What she does remember from her past life was that love was ugly, it was black and abusive, it twisted and contorted you until you were begging for mercy. Itâs whatâs kept her from any possible pursuits of any sort of relationship, just the idea of love these days scaring her. Gabriel had been the first taste of something different in her life; emotions were left out but a connection was kept, they shared a closeness without tapping too much into what could hurt. To this date, heâs been the healthiest experience sheâs had and while she regrets some aspects of what transpired between them she could never consider the man a disappointment. âGabriel, youâre not,â came her soft reply, a small shake of her head. He was so close he was making her head light. âWeâll figure it out together,â she assured. At least now he wasnât pulling away from her, and in fact seemed to just be accepting that certain things needed to be acknowledged between them and maybe given a chance. âMet too,â she smiled softly, wetting her lips, head only becoming fuzzier after the kiss.
Kissing him happened without thought, it was something that felt right to do in the moment and this time she hadnât held back or hesitated. Heâd said earlier that heâd be wanting of sex with her if she wanted, if she asked, so maybe it was her subconsciously testing the waters. Cherry was tired of herself, tired of jumping away whenever Gabe retracted from her, and while she didnât want to force anything, she wanted the words said between them to have meaning. She chowed down on the sushi fairly quickly, noticing that he was moving through it even faster than she was and she had some thoughts about it, wondering if he was maybe anxious. Heâd actually responded so well to her planting a kiss on him, that she was in a bit of shock still, and rather than pull away he had smiled at her and seemed to want her closer. Maybe she was getting ahead of herself, however, the only way through and to figure it out was to fumble around in the dark until the light switch was found. Once plates were put on the table and she took the initiative to lean into him, a warm smile curved her lips as Gabrielâs arm wrapped around her slender frame. She kept her hand on his leg and simply felt comfortable in the cuddling embrace, hazel hues occasionally glancing at his hand moving over her dress. âItâs a classic,â she quipped with a quiet chuckle and added, âitâs a must for the yearly Halloween season.â When his fingers then palm came into contact, flesh to flesh, Cherry turned her chin up and towards him. Her eyes moved over his handsome face and took in just how close they were again, a smile toying on her lips at his comment. It wasnât until after he had kissed the back of her head and breathed in her scent that she decided to act again, she shifted up a little and reached for his chin, turning it towards her, this time planting a much more real kiss on his lips. Parting her own and pressing it a little deeper than the one prior, drawing him in as she pulled back just slightly and repositioned her set taking his bottom lip between her own.
Letting the kiss break after a moment, she licked her lips as though she was savoring it and then rubbed her lips together. Her eyes focused on his own once again and she swallowed before admitting, âI missed cuddling but I also missed kissing you as well.â When Gabriel asked if he could toss her a question, Cherry nodded and became curious on what he was alluding to with what he queried. âYeah,â the brunette answered after a moment. âI think itâs part of life to make mistakes and bad decisions. I donât believe or trust the people that say they have no regrets because to me they havenât really lived. Fucking up is how we learn and how we often are able to eventually get it right.â Letting out a soft, feminine sigh, her hand went back to his leg and gave it a squeeze, âWhatâs on your mind?â
Gabriel ignored everything about her past, just like she didnât know about his own story. He couldnât tell that Cherisa had also been a disappointment several times in the past for someone, and if he had known he would probably have told her how untrue it was. Just like she was doing with him right now, and she would have probably brushed away his affirmation, just like he was doing right now. He simply shrugged and ignored it, although he knew that he would probably have to give her more explanations later about it. He didnât know about her story, he didnât know about her previous love life and from as far he could remember, he had never seen her with someone else before him. Maybe small dates, but nothing very serious. He wondered if she had been with other people before. At the thought that maybe he was her most stable relationship, his stomach churned. The kiss that had felt so right a few seconds ago suddenly scared him, but he tried his best to push away the negative thoughts filling his head. It couldnât be true, after all. There was no way that Cherry had no past before him. Maybe she had avoided relationships because of other things. After all, it was selfish to believe that her entire life revolved around him.
As he ate his food, barely watching the movie, his eyes kept wandering on Cherisa, thinking about their previous kiss. He regretted not kissing her back, but also thought that maybe it was the best thing to do considering their situation. Or at least he hoped so, otherwise he would regret it for a very long time. He was almost glad to be done with his plate of sushi when he put it on the coffee table, and couldnât wait for Cherry to be done too. When she finally leaned into him, the whole cuddling and wrapping his arms around her felt right and natural. There was also a bit of nostalgia as he felt her hand on his leg, as they just sat there like they had done so many times in the past. âI know, silly.â He chuckled too, listening as she explained that The Shining was a Halloween classic. He never really did celebrate Halloween as a child, but remembered hiding to watch horror movies. It was always a terrible idea, because he would get scared, and then his step-father would get angry. His eyes darkened at the thought, and he hid his face in her dark hair for a short moment, before looking up when his hand touched her pale, silky smooth skin. His comment was obviously a way to detour the attention from his hand on her leg, but she didnât seem to mind, and even smiled at his invitation to kiss him again, something that he didnât expect at all. He placed a kiss on the back of her head, he didnât want to push her this time. He had been the one literally chasing her years ago, and he didnât want to do the same mistake again. He knew that he wouldnât be as lucky this time if he ruined everything. Gabriel felt her moving against him and his hold on her waist loosened when he felt her fingers on his chin. He turned his head slowly, instinctively knowing what was coming next, and his heart started racing in his chest with anticipation. His hand on her leg tightened its grip when he felt her lips on his own. It felt right, even if he knew it was probably not, and they would both regret it later. He resisted the urge to pull her closer, instead letting her take control, closing his eyes and letting out a small sigh of relief when she pressed her lips deeper, feeling his body heating up when she wrapped his bottom lip in his mouth. He looked down when the kiss finally broke, before searching for her eyes quickly.
âI missed a lot of things I shouldnât be missing.â He said with a small chuckle, his hand on her thigh not leaving her skin. It was true, but he preferred to avoid those details. Maybe it was better to stick to cuddling â and maybe to kissing, because he would certainly not mind it. He had asked her a question, a very serious one, something that rarely happened between them or at least not during their private time together. He listened to her answer with interest, she didnât seem to realize what his question was about, and maybe it was better this way. He grimaced when she squeezed his leg, but smiled again at her question. He sighed and shrugged, trying to think of an answer that would not sell him out completely. âI donât know. Iâve been thinking about lots of things lately. Itâs weird, how being so fucking far from home makes you realize stuff.â He said with a small chuckle, kissing the top of her head. âMaybe itâs the ghosts messing with my head, after all.â Gabriel brought in the ghost jokes again, grinning at her playfully. He soon became serious again. It was maybe not the right time to bring in all the awkward talk, but it was never the right time either. âOr maybe⌠Maybe I understood way too late what a stupid mistake I did when I left you.â He spoke without catching a breath and his hazel eyes never left her gaze as he told her the truth. His heart was racing again, and he bit his bottom lip, not waiting for an answer. âI screwed up big time, I know. I just want to make it right this time.â He whispered, leaning in to kiss her, his hand leaving her thigh to cup her cheek softly. Fingers running in her hair, his lips pressed against hers, he forced her mouth open and sucked on her bottom lip. Pulling back, he took a deep breath, repeating himself that he needed to slow down. Licking his lips, he sighed, and chuckled. âOk⌠Uh how about we go talk to your ghost friends, now?â He asked, scratching his beard.

âManâs got to make a living.â Though starting a magician show for children was a better way to go than play tourists. The manâs explanation caused a small laugh to roll from his shoulders. âExcept if youâre being called a tourist at your own hometown, stings a little.â By now his full attention was directed at the other man, listening to him telling his story. âOnly two months? Where did you come from, if you donât mind me asking?â Kaidan asked, stepping away from the coin, which now had lost his interest.
âYeah, well I donât really consider these guys like honest workers earning their wages.â Gabe said, looking at the sky. He laughed in agreement at the other man. âYeah, I mean I havenât been in my hometown for quite a while, so I wouldnât be too offended, but if I lived there forever itâd probably hurt that sensitive string too.â He said with an amused smile. âIâm from California. I inherited a house here in mid-city, an old thing that hasnât been renovated since the seventies, so I kinda moved here temporarily to take care of it.â He explained, before introducing himself, offering his hand for a handshake. âIâm Gabe, by the way.â

⏠ âAlways ready to fight some guys for me,â came her joking reply with a wink. She pretended to fluff up her hair and smirked over the possessive nature of the humor being tossed around. Cherry wasnât a fighter, unless it came to words â- sheâd tear anyone down if it came to it. Though physically, she wasnât built for it and while sheâd certainly throw a slap or a punch, it likely wouldnât do anything but anger a pushy man. The brunette knew sheâd be alright if Gabriel was around. It made her a little more curious about his past, though Cherry knew to take it slow and ask little by little rather than flood him with questions and wanting to know. When he said the bit about how he was as a teenager, she nodded slowly, accepting the information and mulling it over it a little. Considering what he meant beneath the surface of those specific admissions. âWhat kinds of things did you steal?â Cherry queried out of curiosity and in want to keep the conversation going a little bit. She nodded when he said they could speak more about it later and hoped heâd still be open to that later. âYou know I have to hear these wild stories, so Iâm going to hold you to that,â she half teased, and was mostly serious. âSure,â the brunette nodded at his negotiation, agreeing to the deal, âa little tit for tat never hurt anyone, right? Iâll share if you share.â Cherisa was a little surprised he was wanting to know now but she would certainly try. âYouâre human, Iâm human, itâs the thing about being a person â- weâre all works in progress.â
Letting out a sigh, she dropped her head for a minute, suddenly feeling exhausted for the moment on this particular back and forth. âGabe,â she said, looking up and catching his gaze, âyou canât have it both ways. You canât offer to help but not really want to, or with no intention of actually going through with it. Thatâs fucked up.â Cherry had been exaggerating about it in the first place, as a joke, and didnât like that it had come to this. It wasnât as though she hadnât thought or considered asking him, but when knowing the outcome would just be rejection because of his preconceived notions and assumptions there really was no point in trying. âWell, if you want me to massage you, just say so. We both know how good I am with my hands,â she teased, attempting to turn around the downward spiral the conversation had gotten sucked into. âNothing to get weird over about a massage,â she chuckled, a breathy sound, figuring that this time around it likely wouldnât go the way of a happy ending. The brunette wasnât opposed, though like a beaten dead horse, she knew all too well that Gabriel was. âI donât hate it,â she replied with a soft laugh, âitâs just you look good doing it and I donât need to be having impure thoughts.â The winks were flirtatious and all apart of the tease, she knew that and honestly didnât mind it, really her comment was just to get him to stop teasing her. âOf course itâs not. Treat yourself, baby.â
âYou donât have to hate yourself to hate on yourself. You bring yourself down a lot rather than try to build yourself up and make whatever changes, positive,â Cherry explained. It was something she and pretty much every other human on the planet was guilty of, it was apart of human nature to beat yourself up about your mistakes and character faults. Often, the brunette believed that people were way too hard on themselves and that life and the world would be a little easier if everyone just lightened up. âWe all have negative, less than desirable, aspects and qualities to ourselves and our personalities,â she paused, with a smirk as she glanced over at Gabe and added jokingly, ânot me of course, but everyone else â-â Cherry shook out her head a little and continued, âDo you know anything for real about the yin-yang?â With the conversation eventually shifted around, away from the uncomfortable scolding for her trying to do something cute and funny, and onto the talk of ghosts and hauntings, she had to roll her eyes at his comments. âI doubt it. If anything your ass will just get severely haunted,â she joked. âAnd ghosts, spirits, can do far worse than punch you in the face, my dear. But donât worry, this strapping lady here will keep you safe.â
Smiling at the compliment, her fingers naturally went to the hem of her dress, toying with it just a little as his gaze dropped down over it. âThank you,â Cherry shrugged when adding, âI just have good taste and know what works for me. Plus, Iâm one of those girls that likes to look good and puts in a bit of effort.â Laughing, she nodded in agreement to the fashion styles and trends he mentioned. âShows off some leg and cheeks but yeah thatâs a throwback to the eighties. Like whatâs the point of a midriff shirt if youâre just pulling your pants all the way up?â She was a bit of smiles thinking about the upcoming weekend and spending it with Gabriel in such a way, it felt like some real time and hopefully quality time. They had mentioned talking and getting to know pasts, and it seemed like the perfect time for that. Cherry also wasnât going to complain over a shirtless man working in the heat.
âNot going to lie to you,â she began, glancing from him to the sake bottle, âitâs pretty good. Not the best Iâve had but definitely good enough for tonight.â When Cherisa had moved to the floor, she hadnât expected the response that would come from Gabriel. She really figured that he would just go on as normal and they would enjoy the film and food, though before it really began it was being paused and the blond was going hard on the sake. Cherry was on the verge of answering his question on how they were supposed to cuddle, her lips parted and words were ready to flow, yet Gabriel spoke up again and continued. The comment about fucking meaningless girls wasnât necessarily appreciated, however, Cherry understood the point he was making. âGabe,â she spoke softly, attempting to stop him from going on but she watched the alcohol go to his lips again and she knew he was fueling himself into bravery for the bit of feelings he was sharing. Then, again, before she could speak he was moving closer to her. Gabeâs face was so incredibly close, and he was tenderly tucking her hair behind her ear, an action of affection and care. He kissed her cheek, she felt the heated moisture of his breath on the shell of her ear and shuddered a little at the sensation it sent down her spine, and he was rubbing her shoulder. Lids fell shut over hazel hues and she steadied herself with a slow breath, this night so far had been a bit of a rollercoaster when it came to their interactions. Opening her eyes, Cherry leaned her head back just enough so that her gaze could meet his, she nodded, âOf course. You know that would mean a lot to me.â Reaching for his free hand, without pulling her eyes from his, she held it and gave it a squeeze, rubbing her thumb over the back of it as she chewed the inside of her bottom lip while in thought of what to say. The problem was, his actions and words didnât quite add up to friend, there was something else and just like Gabriel, she ignored it too, for the most part. âWeâll fix this, alright? And itâs not solely up to you, itâs something weâll work on together,â came her reply, a slight bit of hope lacing her tone. Without a thought, Cherry closed the small amount of distance and pressed her lips to his, it wasnât a deep or passionate kiss, just something soft and innocent before pulling back a second later.
Letting go of his hand, Cherry reached up and lightly brushed her fingers through his hair, âLetâs get back up on the couch, watch this movie, eat this food, and cuddle the shit out of each other.â And just like that she was moving about and shifting back up to the couch and getting comfortable after grabbing their plates, setting his in his lap once he was next to her. Pulling her feet up, she placed them on the table and balanced her plate in her lap after putting the sake between them on the couch. It went without saying they were going to have more of these types of moments to work through but Cherry had hope that they would eventually get through it all. It was worth it to her, he was worth it to her, whatever was between them was worth it to her. She had no one and wasnât about to give Gabriel up, as she never had, never once when things got tough or even when they were hurtful. With the movie rolling and her popping piece after piece of the sushi she had loaded onto her plate into her mouth, when she was finished, she leaned forward and put her plate on the table then leaned into his side when she sat back, her hand resting casually on his leg and her eyes focused on the classic Stephen King story playing on the screen.
Gabe shrugged at her question about the things he used to steal. The list was endless, but it was mostly unimportant things, and sometimes money. It was never big sums of money, though. He knew that the topic would more likely be forgotten once Cherisa would move over something more interesting, so he offered to talk about it another time, pretexting it was maybe not the good time for this. It was still a great deal to learn more about her past if he told her about his own stories. âAnd Iâm very curious to know what weird stories youâre hiding too. Iâm sure youâve got interesting ones.â He said, teasing her nicely. Cherry was right, people were are works in progress, and he was a person too. He wasnât perfect and nobody expected him to be either. Smiling slowly, he nodded and looked at the brunette. âYeah, youâre right. But I still think I need lots of improvement. We both know itâs true.â
He blinked and gave her a confused look at her reaction. What had all started with a joke was really going all downhill, and unfortunately for him, he wasnât sure how exactly to get himself out of this mess. âWell I offered you my help, and then you seemed not very interested in my helpâŚSo I thought that maybe it wasnât a good idea?â He sighed and shook his head. âBut of course, Iâd help you if you asked meâŚEven if it makes no sense that youâd ask me such a thing.â He chuckled, wondering how they had come to such a ridiculous conversation. âIâd be totally down for a massage, maybe later? After the movie and the jump scare from whatever youâre plotting against me.â It was true that a massage wasnât weird or inappropriate, initially at least. At least not anymore, and he doubted that it would happen again. âOh, please. Impure thoughts. As if you really care about having them.â He teased, smiling at Cherisa. âBut thanks for telling me, now I know how to control your impure thoughts.â Gabriel added, a grin on his lips as he winked again.
He smiled nicely at her explanation. He understood what she meant, but Gabe wasnât too sure that bringing himself up was really a good thing. When he did, he often had that weird feeling that he sounded like a bragger. âYeah, youâre probably right. I should be more positive.â He said, obviously more to please her than actually planning to do it for real. He chuckled when she talked about everybodyâs flaws, of course denying that she had any, even if it was obviously a joke. At her question, he simply shrugged. The yin-yang? âIs this the Chinese thing about balance or something? I think I read something about itâŚMany years ago.â He said, although he wasnât sure if he had really read about it, or simply heard about it on TV â or in a conversation with someone, which was very plausible too. At his new joke about ghosts, he saw her eye rolls again, and he wondered if it wasnât better to stop joking about ghosts for now, and at least wait until he had proven her wrong about his supposedly haunted house. âAlright, youâre gonna protect me thankfully. They could maybe steal my soul or something⌠Though I donât really think I have a soul. And from the hatemail I get, Iâd probably be going to hell if I had one anyway.â He always preferred to joke about the hate he received, and if at first it didnât bother him, it was unfortunately more hurtful than it used to be now.
He could tell that his compliment had pleased her by the way she played with her dress, and the way she smiled when she thanked him. He laughed at her explanation, when she told him that she knew what worked for her. âMandi, honey, you could wear a potato sack and youâd look amazing.â It was a relief to hear that she was agreeing with his distaste of the new weird fashion trends. âThe eighties werenât so damn ugly. I know, I was there.â He suddenly felt old, and certainly very nostalgic as he realized that he was suddenly one of those people saying the infamous in my times comment. âI feel like a damn grandpa now.â He said with a chuckle.
After the small argument in the kitchen, Gabriel returned to the living room with plates and glasses, ready to sit next to her. After an attempt at small talk, Cherry moved to the floor and he didnât appreciate it. He knew that maybe his words werenât the most appropriate, but at this point he didnât mind if it was appropriate or not. Clutching to his bottle of sake from time to time to find more liquid courage, he didnât listen when she called his name softly, moving close to her instead, so close that he could touch her. He felt her bodyâs reaction at his kiss on her cheek, and he was tempted for a split second to move just a little and see how she would react if he kissed her lips. But he was way too scared to do it, and thankfully she was already answering him, keeping his attention on something else. âI donât want to disappoint again.â He murmured, his gaze locked in hers. When she held his hand, he noticed that she was biting her lip and looked away, until Cherisaâs voice caught his attention again. Before he could say anything again, her lips were pressed on his and she was kissing him. It wasnât rough or passionate, just a very soft kiss. When she detached her lips a second or two later, she was caressing his hair and Gabriel couldnât help but smile at the gesture. âYeah, letâs do this⌠Especially the last part. I really missed that one.â He said, unsure how exactly she had changed her mind so quickly.
He could swear that it was the first time he ate his sushi so quickly. Watching the movie with one eye and observing Cherisa with the other, he wasnât really focused on anything, only thinking about that kiss. It was probably a heat of the moment thing, or it didnât mean much, but it felt good and he obviously couldnât stop thinking about it. He finished his plate and put it on the coffee table, resting his feet at the end of it. He waited for Cherry to finish and do the same, inventing a tactic in his mind to cuddle her when she would have finished her plate, but when she simply put the plate on the table and leaned into his side, Gabriel stared at her in surprise but with a lot of satisfaction. His arm wrapped around her frame, his hand landing on her thigh, brushing against the fabric of her dress. âIâve seen this movie so many times.â He commented, trying to focus on Jack Nicholson going insane on the screen. His free hand reached for the sake and he took another gulp, his hand on her leg caressing its way to the hem of her dress. When his palm touched her naked skin, he stopped immediately what he was doing, and took a deep breath. âI really enjoyed that kiss.â He said in a very low voice. âIn case you wanted to do it againâŚâ He said, looking away and chewing on his cheek. That was a pretty stupid call, and he knew it. He meant it, though, and that worried him. Holding her close, Gabriel kissed the back of her head and smelt her hair, watching the movie absent-mindedly. âCan I ask you a question?â He asked, waiting for an answer before he proceeded to ask his mysterious question. âHave you ever done something, thinking it was the best decision ever, and later you realized that this was a very, very bad idea, so you had to do everything to repair your mistakes?â

⏠ Before Gabriel even made the comment, Cherry already knew that he would respond the way he had, that he would watch over her throughout the night and keep guys off of her. The brunette offered the blond a smile and popped her chin in a nod to him, âAlright, I appreciate that, just make sure you donât end up in jail instead.â Gabe was a big guy who worked out regularly, one could only imagine what a punch from him would do and if the other guy would fight back or not. Cherry hoped that they wouldnât have to find out, and that the party would just be fun. She knew sheâd have to see women all over near naked Gabriel, and she thought as much as it would likely bother her that maybe it was a good thing â- they needed to get past this. Especially since it wasnât going anywhere. âSeems somethingâs never change,â she quipped when he said he was a pain in the ass, a smirk firmly residing on her lips. âWhat were you always in trouble for?â came her query, both curious and intrigued. They never really went into each otherâs pasts, his not so much and hers not at all. Cherry knew, had heard stories apart from Gabriel about how tough foster life was, and while she already knew that the topic couldnât be an easy one for him to talk about, she did hope they could communicate a bit. Maybe it would help her security of opening up on her own fucked up childhood and past. âYou obviously donât have to talk about it if you donât want â- I am interested to know though,â she shrugged a little, attempting to make it not seem such a big deal. A chuckle escaped her, knowing too well he was likely kidding about the butt touching, and she nodded almost carelessly over it. âYou can be the big spoon,â a smile took to her lips, âitâs always nice being held.â Soon a sigh was being breathed out and Cherry was nodding in agreement, wishing the same. âIâd like that â- seems itâs up to you though. You always hold me at a distance.â
Opening her mouth, about to respond to Gabe saying she hadnât seen all the men in the world to make that claim, she was cut off by the proverbial slap in the face. There had been no need for him to say what he had, and maybe that was why it stung. It was his opinion and that was fine, but to say something like that to someone just seemed nasty and uncalled for, and it wasnât even that it was a blow to Cherryâs supposed ego since she especially didnât think she was the hottest or most beautiful thing walking. Not even close, actually. Swallowing thickly, reeling from the blow, her lips pursed a second before the brunette nodded and breathed out, âWell, youâre welcome then.â She was happier than a pig in shit as soon as the conversation moved on. âWhy would I ask you for help? You wouldnât help me. Iâm not going to waste my time,â she returned with a shrug. Easily it could have been added on that she didnât need help, she could get her needs met easily, however she wasnât interested in stooping to a low level as he had just done. A small smirk appeared on her lips as Gabe clarified what he meant with the massage oil, and she shook her head just slightly. âYou just want to be touched and greased up. You donât need me for that, Iâm sure thereâs plenty of girls that would jump at that opportunity,â she somewhat suggested with a bit of a light chuckle. It took her a second to clue into why he was looking at her the way he was, that sultry gleam in his eyes and smirk on his lips, but then she chuckled again realizing how her wording could have been taken. âYou need to stop winking at me, you perv. Get your mind out of the gutter,â she teased, though didnât mind joking around. âLook at you pushing that hair thing forward though. Someone wants some pampering,â Cherry then winked.
Of course the whole exchange turned kind of awkward when she returned the compliment to him. She knew that Gabriel wasnât likely to settle down, though Cherry also knew not to be so ignorant as to believe that he wouldnât find someone worth it. Who knew what the future had in store for any of them and women seemed to drop at their feet for him, and for his sake and future happiness, the brunette hoped heâd find someone he could connect with enough. Nobody should be alone, even if she herself was a hypocrite and had resigned to that. âItâs not stupid,â she said quietly, shaking her head, âItâs alright though.â Her head turned in his direction, just getting a glance at the blond male as he muttered a response and faked a smile. âStop hating yourself and stop letting your fears rule you. You are worth it â- letâs just enjoy the night though.â
âItâs fine,â she said quickly, âyou donât like it, I respect that, itâs fine.â Cherry wanted to get away from all the bad and heavy shit, she wanted to be able to just have a nice time and while they always seemed to get along, even during more difficult times, there was a part of her that wanted to let go. She often didnât understand the weirdness between them anymore, and she wanted to let it go. It was a want that was growing, and after so much time had past it just seemed almost like a punishment. A laugh burst out of her at Gabe commenting how it sucked when dead people donât like you. Â Shaking her head, âDude, I think you should just be kind of happy about that. There are worse things than ghosts.â She knew he likely already thought she was a bit on the crazy side and frankly, she was caring less and less for opinions and judgements. There were things she had seen and experienced in life and in death, now she was faced with knowing things she was oblivious to before.
Nodding, âThatâs why I donât follow fashion trends all that much. I just do things to my tastes and let it be.â There was a rise and fall of her shoulders, simply shrugging it off, everyone had their tastes and hell, for some reason people liked wallpaper. It was cool the plans they had come up with for the weekend, seemed like it would be a good time and good for Gabriel simultaneously. Cherisa bit her bottom lip a little and chewed on it as she listened to him respond about the bed joke she had made and to her question. âI mean I get that the bed is typically a place for intimacy of some sort, a particular sort, but really â- fucking can happen anywhere.â As they were both aware of. âItâs not what I meant,â Cherry answered, âbecause I donât believe youâd actually touch me with a ten foot pole. Despite what you say. Youâre not going to have sex with me, I know that and I have known it for a long time now.â She began stepping away, though pausing, âI donât even think youâd share a bed with me in a friendly sense. Non sexual. And thatâs alright, Iâm good with it.â
Letting out a bit of a sigh, Cherry ran her fingers through her long soft brown waves and shook her head. âIâm not messing with you and either way, youâve already given me your feelings and opinion on it so many damn times. I get it, Gabe. Weâre good.â By then, the brunette was more than happy to leave the room and go browse through Netflix. Once the movie was all cued up and ready to roll, she had began to get everything ready so they could load their plates and start eating in time with pressing the play button. She grinned a bit at his comment when he made way into the room with the plates and glasses, biting her lip for a second before shrugging. âHey, it was just a taste test,â she joked. âIâve got The Shinning all ready to go. Iâm sure youâve seen it but it seems like a good starting point to me,â she answered. Taking the plate she began loading it up with some sushi pieces and was set to relax back and play the film, thinking nothing of the accidental touch until he apologized and moved away. Her eyes blinked shut for a second, she took a breath, and then leaned forward to set her plate on the coffee table. Cherry scooted forward and slipped off of the couch cushion onto the floor between the table and the piece of furniture, crossing her legs under the table. Sheâd had enough of being that repulsive, in fact, part of her just wanted to go home at that point. Reaching for the remote, she glanced over her shoulder, âNow you can spread out all you want.â Turning her gaze back forward onto the TV, pressing play on the remote, âGoing to go ahead and start it now.â Once she had set the remote down, Cherry began mixing up her wasabi and soy sauce to prepare for dipping, and then opened up the other sake bottle. She placed it on the table closer for him to grab and put the other in front of her, just figuring that separate bottles was the way to go.
Gabriel dismissed her comment and shook his head, a slightly amused smile plastering his lips. âIâm not afraid of jail, especially if itâs to defend your honor, baby.â He joked, although there was probably a bit of truth in his joke. Gabe would never let someone hurt or mistreat someone he cared for, it was something he would never allow. He was strong, knew how to fight â and had known way before he started training seriously. A long time ago, to know how to fight was a pure necessity for Gabriel, times were rough and if he didnât want to be bullied, he had to prove that he could talk back, or act back in that case. He smiled lightly at Cherryâs comment, and looked away at her question. âOh, stuff. I wasnât a quiet kid. I stole stuff, did drugs, I was problematic.â He explained flatly, not very ashamed of it. After all, it was a bad part of his life, but he still considered it better than his childhood with his mother and Johnny. He smiled when she told him that he didnât have to talk about his past. âWell, you know, I donât mind talking about my foster stories. Some of them are pretty wild. But maybe not now. How about later?â He offered, wondering if she would remember, and if he would really tell her his stories. It was a lot of revelations, if he did, and he wasnât sure if he was ready for this yet. âBut if I tell you about those things, youâll have to tell me more your past.â It was true that he had always kept a certain distance between them. Or at least, he always tried to. Even when they slept together, he was afraid of catching feelings, and tried his best to avoid it when it made no sense at all. âI know, and I will work on that. I think thereâs a ton of things I need to work onâŚThereâs not only this stupid house that needs a fix.â He joked, shaking his head.
What Gabriel believed was a compliment apparently passed as an insult to Cherry. He could see at her reaction that he should have kept quiet instead, or just thanked her for her words. He wanted to apologize, or tell her that he didnât mean what he said. For a second, he wanted to say that she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, but he was tongue tied and all he could think was that she only had one more reason to hate him. It always felt like that. He attempted to joke about helping her to relieve herself from her sexual arousal, but her response was a cold shower. Again, he knew that he deserved it and could only blame himself for his position. âWell, I tell you Iâd help. But if you say youâre fine, then, whatever.â He said, looking away. He was desperately trying to keep things positive, hoping for the night to be good and fun, but things were only getting worse and worse. âI donât care about these other girls, though.â He flatly replied, eyes glowing and a smile on his lips. âI remember you give great massages.â He added with a grin, refraining himself from adding that he especially enjoyed the bonus parts of the massages he used to have. He winked again when she told him to stop, and laughed. âWhat, why do you hate it so bad?â He asked, obviously joking. âYeah, and I wonât hide it. I love getting pampered, is it a crime?â He asked, smiling innocently.
He smiled softly when Cherisa told him that his whole relationship issue was not stupid. It was complicated, he was complicated, but in the end, she was probably right and he hoped that maybe someday he would really be worth it. But for now, Gabriel felt like he wasnât good for anyone, and that he would never bring anything positive. âWho said I hate myself? I donât really hate myself. Some parts, but we all do, right?â He asked, looking at the road. She was probably right, it was better to just enjoy the night and forget about this whole story, but he was still curious. Gabe didnât hate himself, he was mostly insecure, and terrified of rejection. It was probably why, in the end, he was so afraid of commitment. He was so scared of a potential breakup that he preferred not to try at all. For someone who pretended to live his life to the fullest, that was quite hypocritical. After the brief pinch-on-the-cheek and overreacting moment, they were back at talking spirits and ghosts, and obviously Gabriel made sure to joke a little, telling her his disappointment regarding the ghosts disliking him. âWell, at least dead people canât punch you in the face. Thatâs kinda comforting to know that your enemies are all dead.â He said, obviously joking. âI mean, who knows, maybe Iâll have some sudden connection tonight and will see dead people like Macaulay Culkin after tonight.â
âWell, I still always considered you very fashionable, youâre always looking good.â He said, looking at her short dress. âI was mostly talking about that weird ass trend of super high-rise pants with crop tops, mini-shorts that look like diapers, see what I mean?â He said with a laugh, shaking his head. Taking off the wallpaper would probably give the house a fresher start, and it would probably good for his mood too, or at least he hoped so. He also hoped that it would be good for both of them, to rekindle their friendship, or whatever they had. He regretted responding to her joke, and her question when he saw Cherry biting on her bottom lip. He was clearly talking too much, and was screwing up badly.
Her words hurt like a slap on the face, and it wasnât until she was actually gone that Gabriel realized what had just happened. He didnât understand why exactly he felt so hurt, and why he wanted to explain himself to her so desperately when she was right again and didnât need any explanation from him. He had told her about a million times that nothing would happen between them, that sex wasnât possible anymore, and that they needed to keep their distances. He wanted to talk, now, but was there really anything left to be said? He didnât think so. Maybe it was better to just let it go, after all. His stomach churned at that thought. Gathering the plates and glasses, he headed to the living room, trying to keep a straight face again. It seemed more and more difficult to act normal, as if a bomb was going to explode at any time.
âYeah, sure, and how was that taste test?â He smiled back, sitting next to her. The moment was ruined again when he touched her thigh, not because of his hand on her leg but because of his comment, and how he moved away, giving Cherisa more room. When she put her plate on the coffee table, Gabe frowned lightly, wondering what she was doing. His face changed when she slipped onto the floor, sitting at his feet. He swallowed and chewed on the inside of his cheek at her comment, searching for the right words â and mostly, the polite ones â to ask her to sit back on the couch. By the time she had pressed start, he was boiling inside, observing her as she prepared her food, too busy staring to even think about his own plate. When Cherisa opened the second bottle of sake, he put down his plate on the coffee table and grabbed the bottle instead, taking a long chug of the liquid. After putting it down next to the sushi, he reached for the remote control, pausing the movie again. âHow the hell am I supposed to cuddle with you if youâre on the floor?â He asked, trying to sound confident. He was not good at this type of speech, and had no idea how it would go. âI spent the last four days worrying if Iâd lost you completely. I could have gone in town to forget and meet random meaningless girls, but instead I fucking worried about you and called you night and day.â He paused to take another gulp of liquid, this time keeping the bottle in his hand. âI messed up so much in the last year, and I want to make things better, because thereâs no way weâre doomed in this bullshit awkward friendship forever.â He said, bringing the bottle to his lips again. Swallowing another sip, he put it down on the table, and leaned in so his face was close to hers. Gabrielâs hand slowly tucked a strand of hair beneath her ear, before kissing her cheek. Whispering against her ear, his hand fell on her shoulder, rubbing it slowly. âCan you let me try being a good friend?â Until now, he had failed miserably at the no argument challenge, but he firmly believed that he could at least be a good friend, if they focused on normal things instead. Like the food, or the movie, or even the stupid ghosts.

⏠ âWell then if youâre so willing to do it and wonât freak out, then Iâm game. Iâd make a magical looking Eve. Besides, making what little of the costume there would be will be fun,â came her confident reply, accompanied by a firm single nod of her head. A chuckle escaped her at Gabeâs wording, her nose scrunched and she shook her head, âIâm confident enough in my body, itâs just I donât want to be poked and grabbed. So if we do it then you better be prepare to bail me out of jail because I will throw a punch.â Cherry didnât truly foresee a problem, though she had also worn more before and men couldnât seem to be able to control themselves. Clearly, every bit of her sarcasm was going over his head, so the brunette simply nodded to Gabriel saying the girl he had been in foster care with had a mental illness. She chuckled as he did finally joked and when curiosity got the best of her, Cherry questioned, âHow old were you then? Do you remember where you went after that?â The fact that the blond didnât back down over the spooning topic, she wondered if she was maybe semi right in that he might actually be okay with it or even wanting to do it. Something nice, something shared between two people that cared for one another, simply literally sleeping with each other. So far, knowing he didnât like to be alone, he hadnât tried and would just crash on the couch. âYou can be the little spoon,â she chuckled and added, âI have no problems holding you.â The brunette nodded her head, she knew Gabriel had no desires for a family, what caused her brows to stitch together for a few seconds was the sad smile he offered her. She shook her head, honestly, âI donât know that. Youâve never wanted to know about me before.â
With a chuckle, âOkay, babe. Youâre just the most handsome and sexiest man on the planet â- with your chiseled face, sculpted abs, and an ass that wonât quit.â Cherisa grinned and sent a wink his way, the words were actually truthful, as she could never actually deny how attractive he was, however she was being playful about the whole thing. Laughing along with him, the brunette nodded her head, âHow right you are, sugar lips. I will forever be vigilant about my nipples and your zeroed in gaze. And really, itâs do my no good to always be sexually aroused around you. Itâs not like Iâd get any relief.â Her brows lifted and her eyes widened a little, then she couldnât help but chuckle at the imagery in her head. âWait,â she shook her head, âyou want me to massage your nipples? Boy, you got some kind of freaky kinks. You know that?â Not like she would be one to really judge or shame anyone on that, but as always she had to tease Gabriel whenever she got the chance. âI can go grab some oil right now if youâre feelinâ frisky, honey,â Cherry teased. As the moment softened between the two of them, she looked over at him with a bit of a sweet smile when he admitted he liked her fingers in his hair too. âWell,â she began, already expecting that heâd decline, âif you ever want to lay your head in my lapâŚâ She was thinking if they were hanging out and watching TV or a movie together or even if they did actually do the cuddling and sleeping together, she could even do it then.
Hearing him, the man whom was pretty much her only friend in the world, tell her that she deserved the best definitely touched her. It was a moment of weakness that caused her hand to reach out and the backs of her fingers to glide tenderly over his cheek. A show of affection. Cherry nodded, and looked upon him warmly, âThanks for saying that. I mean it.â Her hand dropped to his shoulder and she gave it a squeeze before retracting her limb. It was so rare for the brunette to hear genuinely thoughtful compliments about herself, things more than the way she looked and something that reflected the way the other saw her. âYou know I feel the same towards you, right?â she queried, a little playful  and nudging her arm gently into his. Gabe was her best friend, somebody that no matter what, she couldnât see herself separating from. Unless it was his wish. âDonât get weird on me,â Cherry told him when his smile faded and he looked away after saying some more words that put him in an odd place. She wished heâd get over that, she had long ago settled with being his friend and employee and nothing more, only wishing she could be affectionate with him the way she would a friend. The distance was hurtful sometimes but Cherry somehow always seemed to endure whatever was difficult. âIâm worth it, youâre worth it. Weâre worth it,â she repeated, somewhat, mostly for herself as she looked ahead while driving.
Cherry beamed a smile in Gabeâs direction at him finally calling her Queen and bowing to serve on her demands. Not that she would take advantage, it was all fun and games, and the brunette truly wasnât like that outside of jokes. His reaction, as it furthered over the little pinch to his cheek, soured the mood. She had only been joking around but Gabe seemed genuinely upset by it. âSorry,â Cherry muttered, smile dropping completely, âI wonât do it again.â Thankfully the car ride was much longer and things carried on between them. Shaking her head, âNo, not exactly â- or, I mean, yeah thatâs mostly it but I donât know. Iâm not some expert or anything, I just know what people have told me that are sensitive.â
âWhy are you such a fun sucker? Gotta suck the fun out of everything, donât you, Gabekins?â she sneered at him in a ridiculous, clearly joking manner. Smiling a bit, she nodded, âYeah that sounds pretty fun actually. I guess weâre making a whole weekend out of scary stories and all.â As they made their way around, the blond giving his half-assed tour, the stop by the bedroom was interesting. Cherry could tell that something went off for a moment there, with the forced laugh and the look on his face, to the way he verbally responded. âWhat? Do you want to have sex with me? Just because we could end up in bed together doesnât mean we have to fuck. Not that I would mind if we did, but thereâs always that cuddling and you know, actually sleeping, legit sleeping, together.â Letting out an audible breath, Cherry just moved on before he got really weird and freaked, maybe even physically pull away from her and she was liking the closeness. Sheâd missed it in the general sense. In the kitchen and Gabe admitting that he had put in the cellar, Cherry laughed and nodded, âOf course. Well thatâs good then, it means I know all the good stuff youâve picked out and filled in there. Means when weâre done with the sake we can hit the wine.â She smiled and hopped off the counter once he gave them a plan of action. âAlright, Iâll pick something good,â she said as she began exiting the kitchen. âI feel like we should eat without potentially choking so the spirits can wait a little while,â she called over her shoulder and went to pull up Netflix. After browsing a little she pulled up a classic and got it set to go, sitting on the couch after pushing her shoes off and waiting on Gabriel to join her. The bags had been opened and she had set the boxes out so that they could dish up the plates, even opened up the sake and took a sip right from the bottle.
When she mentioned that she was confident in her body, but didnât want to be poked or grabbed, it was already a given for Gabe that he would be following her around all night, ready to knock out the first guy who would approach her a little bit too closely. He laughed when he heard that he might have to bail her out of jail, of course she would want to take care of her own business. âI donât think youâll have to get out of jail, Iâll make sure no perv comes for you.â He said, wondering if she would maybe tell him that he was probably the worst perv in the place. It wasnât really true, though. He wasnât one of those guys who couldnât control themselves around a naked girl, but he knew that unfortunately it wasnât the case for many of them. And there was no way he would let anyone touch Cherry while he was around, not only because she was his friend, but also because he was slightly jealous. That, of course, he would not admit and would of course only put the blame on the alcohol and the friendship part. âI was 13, or maybe 14? I donât know, I moved around a lot because I was always in trouble and was a pain in the ass.â He joked about it, but sometimes he still felt a little bitter about all the rejection. What had begun to avoid him trouble had finally ended up getting him in trouble as a teenager. It was strange that suddenly, Cherry was asking those questions about his past. People usually avoided them, which was normal. Sad stories usually made people uncomfortable. He sighed in deception when she told him he could be the little spoon. âBut I really prefer big spoon, it gives me an excuse to touch your butt.â He teased, adding, âUnless, of course, I am not allowed to. Then Iâm good with the little spoon position.â He was joking, but soon the mood changed and his smile faded. He had never realized how little he knew about Cherisa, and now that she was telling him, he felt guilty. âMaybe I should change that.â He said, before adding, âI really wish we could know each other better.â He said, nodding slowly.
âThank you, beautiful.â He smirked at the avalanche of compliments, doubting that she was absolutely honest about everything she said. âI donât really like the most handsome and sexiest man on the planet though. You havenât seen them all. I wouldnât say youâre the most beautiful girl Iâve ever seen, but Iâm pretty sure youâre close as hell.â He said with a grin, before the conversation took another very unserious twist. âOh no, no more nipple shows for me! And well, of course you donât get any relief. You never asked for help.â He sighed, shaking his head. He doubted that in need of help, he would really have volunteered. He was way too terrified by the consequences after all. He sighed as she seemed to misunderstand his massage oil reference, and laughed at her comment. âI actually thought that maybe Iâd get lucky and youâd massage my chiseled abs, but I guess that apparently all you can think of are my nipples. âI have some oil at home anyway, in case we need some.â He teased, winking at her. Of course, he wasnât serious, he knew that the chances they would use massage lotion were very thin. Unlike the possibilities of him letting her play in his hair. That would certainly happen sometimes that night. He grinned at the way she formulated her sentence, and of course smirked provocatively at Cherisa, repeating her words. âHmm, Iâd totally lay my head in your lap.â He joked, winking at her. Trying to be more serious, he cleared his throat. âIt is probably going to happen, though. The hair thing, obviously.â
He could tell that his words had pleased her, and he smiled softly as she thanked him. He wondered why nobody had ever told her that she deserved the best, and that she was worth it. He knew that she had told him about her very secluded life, and how he was the closest person she had, but still, Gabe couldnât believe that even her family couldnât pull her up. He was only being honest, Cherisa deserved someone who would treat her right, and would care for her. âIâm just telling you the truth, you know.â He said, not really surprised when she returned the compliment. He doubted that he really deserved someone great, or even to be that happy in life. He wasnât doing much good for others, had been in trouble during his entire childhood, and unless it meant nothing serious, he stayed away from relationships with women. âItâs justâŚNever mind, itâs stupid.â He sighed, deciding that he didnât want to talk about how he believed he would never be able to engage in anything serious. He knew that the comment would end up in some kind of argument, and he didnât want an argument now, as they were heading to his house and had everything planned for a fun night. âYouâre right, weâre all worth it.â He muttered with a thin smile, looking at the GPS indicating the directions.
He felt a little bit awkward after overreacting when she pinched his cheek, and could tell that it made her uncomfortable too. âItâs fine, sorry. Itâs just something I really donât likeâŚâ He chuckled, trying to make things easier for both of them. âSo, Iâm sensitive, but not sensitive enough for spirits to like me?â He joked, pretending to be offended. âThat kinda sucks when dead people donât like you.â He joked, shaking his head. Of course, he didnât really care about the opinions of ghosts, especially since he didnât believe much in them, not to say that he didnât believe in them at all. His mother had made sure very early that his son didnât believe in anything, either scary or positive. When other kids in school believed in Santa or the tooth fairy, Gabriel already knew that it was all lies to make kids happy. His mother had no time for that.
âI was just making sure you were joking, damn. Just in case it was a serious trend. Have you seen whatâs in with fashion right now? Itâs pathetic.â He said with a laugh, before smiling when she agreed with his suggestion of campfire and scary stories. It was obvious from the look on his face that he had thought different things when she mentioned the part where theyâd be both in his bed, and he felt stupid when he realized that she didnât have the same thing in mind. Trying to ignore that he was obviously thinking about sex, he bit his bottom lip when she finally asked him, getting straight to the point. âItâs not⌠I mean, Iâd definitely have sex with you, Iâd be an idiot if I didnât want toâŚ.â He said, obviously searching for the right words, nodding in approval as she spoke. âYouâre totally right, itâs not because weâre in the same bed that weâre going to fuck, though. But it really sounded like that was what you meantâŚâÂ
He let out a small laugh, scratching his beard. âIâm not expecting us to have sex, like it shouldnât even happen. You look fucking good, Iâm horny as hell, but⌠I mean, itâs not right anymore...And youâre probably messing with me, anyway.â Thankfully, the wine was saving the day, or in their case it was the cellar. He felt sweaty and wondered if it was the anxiety, until he realized that he had forgotten to turn the A/C back on. Taking a few steps forward in the kitchen near the window, he turned on the engine, and cool air started flooding the room. âIâve picked all the best bottles. And by the best, I mean the ones I feel the less guilty about drinking by the bottle.â He grinned, looking at Cherisa as she left the kitchen and headed to the living room. He picked up plates and glasses, before heading back to the living room with her, and found the bags opened, and boxes out. When he noticed that she had opened the sake too, Gabriel raised a brow. âSo, you didnât even wait for me, huh?â He teased, putting down the plates on the coffee table before grabbing the bottle to take a sip. âSo, what are we watching tonight?â He asked, sitting next to her. He gave her a plate, before placing a few sushi on his own, his arm brushing accidentally against her thigh. âSorry, itâs a fucking small couch.â He said, pulling to the side to give her more space.
