Originally found on the Iron Chef Reddit page, news broke from Japan today. Dr. Yukio Hattori, whose Hattori Nutrition College supplied the sous Chef for various challengers throughout the years, and color commentator for most battles in the 1990s, has passed.
Always a pleasure to have watched you on the show, Hattori-san. Rest in peace.

A renowned chef who specialized in Chinese cuisine in Japan died of interstitial pneumonia last Saturday. Chin Kenichi was 67 years old.
Sad news to report on: Iron Chef Chen Kenichi passed away this month. Originally found as a Reddit thread, and confirmed through the Kitchen Stadium message board.
Chen is the second of the seven original Fuji TV Iron Chefs to pass, following Masahiko Kobe's death a few years ago.

Good news out of the streaming television industry: The original Iron Chef is returning to airwaves, albeit in a streaming capacity.
The bad news? According to this tweet, it's just the dubbed episodes from the trio of Food Network, Fine Living Network, and Cooking Network. No plans are made to possibly dub the episodes that were never presented to US/Canada audiences through the channels.
At least Iron Chef is back, but only if you don't mind the episodes you already remember.

Sad news out of Japan this spring. (Sorry to have missed this one.) Toshiro Kandagawa, famed Iron Chef challenger, died due to COVID-19. The official Iron Chef book says that he sent his first chef to face the Iron Chefs on 2/16/94, but there is no battle on that day. We’re thinking it was a month earlier, on 1/16 (Battle Squid). His first battle would be on 2/20/94, in Battle Turbot against Chen Kenichi... The rest, they say, is history.
Fun fact - his real surname was not Kandagawa, based on the article...

Meanwhile, over in Thailand, Iron Chef is still going strong. There’s a new episode of the show coming on Saturday afternoon there. Don’t know how you can catch the show, but if you live in that area of the world, don’t hesitate to check it out.
